Computer Has Finished Its Start-up Routines The StartUp Folder Was Empty
May 29, 2009
This may be a rather simple question, but... How can I tell when my computer has finished its start-up routines? I used to have IE and OneNote in my StartUp folder. But, my computer seemed to take a long time to start up as compared to when the StartUp folder was empty. Now I just have a text file in it that only has the word "Ready" in it. So, that is when I know that my computer has finished its start-up processes. This is more curiosity than anything else. My computer (Dell Inspiron 1501 running Vista Home Premium) doesn't take that long to start up. I would just like to know when I can start opening apps after I boot up.
how to get rid of an empty folder I can't delete? It says I *need permission* but I'm the admin and that aggravating safety thing in User Accounts is turned off anyway. Unlocker can't delete it either.
I now have over 300 messages in this folder and nothing seems to work. I don't get any error messages as I see others have posted. None of the "updates" work either. I get a message that the update does not apply to your system.
I have a strange problem. My documents folder doesnt show the content, although a lot of content exists. When typing a subfolders name in the addressbar, I can see the contents of this subfolder. Also in the command shell the "dir" command doesnt show me any content of the documents-folder. But I can access subdirectories via "cd subdirectory". The content of the subdirectory can be listed via "dir".
When I select "properties" after right-clicking the documents folder vista shows me the size of the folder and the number of files found. I have already tried the chkdsk...Everything worked fine until today. Has anybody got an idea what could be the reason for this strange behaviour?
The following .dll is shown as starting up the proces ?) "dzdqmgkyetrqrf":quflsiblczsu.dll. According to startup.exe, this dll is located in the syswow64 folder, but a search (including hiddens) comes up empty. I have recently been the victim of a keylogger trojan and have run 2 separate programs to remove same : Spybot & Spyware Doctor. Is this a legitimate .dll?? If not, how do edit the registry to prevent it from working??
My OS is Vista Home Premium(64 bit). I enjoy playing Solitaire and Chess Titans which are two of the integrated "Games". A problem has occurred. I click "Start" then "Games". The ">Games" window appears, as usual. Solitaire, Hearts, Chess Titans etc etc are shown, as usual. However, when I double click the relevant icon, instead of the game running as usual, I'm getting a new window with "Saved Games" at the top. In the main body of the window appears "Microsoft Games" folder which is empty!! I'm wondering if it's my injudicious use of a "shortcut fixer" tool in a "utility" I've been using recently that's caused this problem. how to get my nice green solitaire game (or chess etc) to show again when I double click the icon
When I empty the junk email folder, it only does the last one. I am getting a message that says it the update does not apply to my system. This is a vista machine running nortan 360.
I was downloading a movie off the internet to watch. When the download was finished I when to my downloads folder to open the movie. When I put the mouse arrow on the folder it says that the movie is there. When I go to open the movie folder, it says that it is empty?
In OE6 my Deleted Items folder would empty automatically when I closed the programme. I cannot find that option anywhere in Windows Mail Tools - is there one?
W0yJHA.4632@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl> it just does nothing when I got to click on that option, and if I tried to delete thing manually I often get a pop-up error message that simply says "an unknown error has occurred" Has this happened to anyone else and if so, does anyone have advice on how to fix it?
I am unable to right click and empty my deleted items folder. When I do, it simply deletes one email, not the entire folder. I have tried a system restore to a few days ago when I know it worked.
When I open the cookies folder, a message says "This folder is empty." The same goes for the Recent folder, Startup folder, and others. What gives? I am the only user of the computer, and have full administrative access (as far as I know). This problem began after I recently downloaded SP2 for Vista Home Premium.
I despair. Until recently I was running OE on Windows 98 and I regularly had problems with this same issue. I've gone onto Windows Mail with Vista and everything seem to be fine for the first month deleting mails en masse until now. I've got 299 items in my deleted folder and I can't empty it other than by deleting one at a time.
Recently when logging on to my e-mail account I lost all my saved messages, the only one left were in the inbox. Now every time I log on Windows Mail generates a "Recovered Messages" folder filled with lots of empty folders and no messages.
When I start the PC, after the loading bar for Microsoft thing finishes, instead of going to login screen it gives me a blue screen, and it says Page_fault_in_nonpaged_area.
Just finished my upgrade from Home Premium x64 SP1 to Ultimate x64 SP1. I've been lurking here on the forum for a while now and having seen quite a few folks having problems with their upgrades, I thought a post sharing the steps I took, which resulted in a Smooooth and problem free upgrade, might be of interest to some.
In no way am I advocating or recommending ANY of the steps that are shown here (i.e. turning off the firewall, etc.).
First phase: -Purchase and download the upgrade to my hard drive (shoparhive.com was less costly than digital locker). Since I live 40 miles away from the nearest store, I preferred the digital download.
-Extract the .iso file using winrar to an empty folder on the desktop. -Performed full system virus scan. -Performed full system spyware scan. -Performed full system backup to the removable HP media drive. -Burn the downloaded iso file to dvd, and the extracted files to another dvd.
when i start my computer i get nothing no icons start menu or anything but i do get a my documents window and from there i have to ctrl alt delete then go to file run and run explorer does anyone know how to make it to where i dont have to do all that stuff to run explorer basically does anyone know how to make it where when i start my computer it is normal with explorer running?
I've tried using Paint to make some new icons in Vista Home Premium. But Paint won't let me save the finished product as an icon by using the ".ico" extension. Used to do this all the time in XP.
I have an Acer aspire 5715z series which as its hard drive partitioned into two 30gig partitions. I would like to know, if I was to delete one of the partitions which is empty would the remaining partition take up the empty space on the hard drive.
I shut my computer off last night as I normally do before I went to bed. It shut down without any issues. Everything was the same as it normally is. When I went to turn on my computer today, it goes through the Dell startup screen, then it tells me there might be a problem with some hardware or something to that effect and gives me the option to either “Launch Startup Repair” or “Start Window Normally”, then windows attempts to start (has the green scrolling bar at the bottom). Either of these options take me to the same place next which is a screen that states “System Recovery Options”, and asks me to select my keyboard language. So I did and hit “next” to continue to a screen that asks me to sign into my account on the computer, and then it took me to another page that displayed a box of system recovery tools.
Being a little confused about what was happening, I selected the option for “Startup Repair”. When it finished I chose to restart the computer as it noted that if the problem was fixed it would start normally. It didn’t start normally and I went through the same process again when it rebooted. I have tried this option many times today, and it isn’t working. I also have tried a few times the option for “Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool”. It goes trough the tests, says nothing about finding a problem, then the computer restarts to the same situation............
whenevr i start my computer it goes to a black screen that gives me 2 options:
1. fix start-up problams (recommended) -or something like that
2. start windows normally
whenever i choose the 1st option it waits 2 seconds and then goes back to that black screen the secont option- it starts loading windows for a long time (about a minut, a minut and a half) and then it gives me a blue screen that says something about problems (i cant read it, becouys it disappears 2 fast-there are percents running down...) and than goes back 2 tha black screen. i pressed some buttons and then it gave me some options , i chose 2 start windows in a safe mode, but -again!!!!-that damn black SCREEN
again, i pressed some buttons and it gave me the same optionsa and i chose to boot windows in a way that it would give me the last document it faild 2 open or something like that (that's what the description said, anyway...). it gave me another blue screen (after he tried starting windows) that gave me some kinda data path and the said: partitons: 2 and then something in '[ ]' and lower it said: enter=submit. esc=cancel. silly of me, i know, but i pressed enter, and it brought me to a blue screen that said: *** STOP: 0X0000005C ( 0X0000010B,0X00000003, 0X00000000, 0X00000000). i run a searc in google and all the people who had this problem said they first tried 2 install a new windows- but i didnt!!! the computer worked just fine, and then it fell from a height of about 4 feet, but it kept working until my sister closed it and the opened again.
I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.
There are two ways to stop applications that start when you startup your computer at login. You can use the System Configuration Utility or the new Software Explorer in Windows Defender. Take a look at the two sections to get control over your startup applications and speed up your computer:
Disabling auto-start applications with the System Configuration Utility
Click on the Start Button and key in msconfig and hit Enter....
The problem i have is when i load windows it comes up fine, but if i open up anything it freezes for 5-6 seonds then does it then freezes again and again i have updated all my drivers, when its been on for say 5-10 mins its fine seems to correspond with the vista update as soon as it pops up saying updates available about 2 mins after that its fine getting to the point where im going to trash it and reload xp
Installed XP Pro and Vista on separate partitions, hoping to update through Vista to Win 7. Changed strategy and deleted Vista, repartitioned HD. Now I still get a window at startup that defaults to Vista but gives me options to start XP. Would like to get rid of that Vista default so I don't have to hawk each reboot.
My buddy was bringing over some files for me on his laptop hdd running xp. I plugged it into my vista x64 computer via usb and I am having a few issues. The hdd shows up in My Computer and shows stuff in it but when I open it, it says that the folder is empty. I whent to Vistas disk manager and it shows everything is fine with the hdd but for some reason the files just wont show up.
The contents of My documents folder is displayed in my computer folder, some icons are double and a whole lot of other white icons "empy" files, see screenshot 1. Screenshot 2:
- Right clicking, double clicking on the white files does nothing - Cannot select them and delete - Opening a folder takes me to that folder (If i open "Pictures" it takes me to C:UsersNotandiPictures) - Deleting a folder there deletes it from My Documents too
EDIT: These direcotries are also displayed in the SEND TO: menu, exactly the same as in my computer, but no the empty white files. See screenshot 2
the problem is what I start up Combat Arms, I get a brief period of everything on my computer freezing. When I try to goto options if I click any tap or press OK I get a period where my computer just freezes for about 10 mins. I can't Ctrl+Alt+Del or alt+f4 out of it. This also happens when I start a game, not join one but when the actually gameplay starts, and I also get it when die and respawn for about 1-2 mins.
