I've never encountered a problem with Windows automatic backup program, until today. First, nothing about my settings or backup location have changed. Its been running every day at midnight.............. Now, everything i see about my backup sets are present, including what it says it can't find.

I've got windows backups from the beginning of 2009 and I keep about 6 Acronis backups.
I read an article about deleting old Update Backups in XP. The article showed where they were stored. Where are the old Vista Update Backup folders stored? I understand from the article that they take up considerable hard drive space. I don't intend on deleting the most recent but are there any others that should not be deleted?

Problem is probably pretty basic. The backups go week after week 'til they fill my external drive. They create one full backup, then a new subfolder every week 'til I run out of room.

I tried deleting "Backup File 1" and the next backup failed.
When you do incremental backups, what happens when you delete a file = because you don't want it on your machine and then you do a back up. I assume that file is still within the backupfile and will be reinstalled when and if you do a restore. Is there a simple way of removing files from your backup data so they = will not restore. I am particularily thinking of a lot of shareware, 30 trial stuff that I would want reinstalled..................

Drive Coolers - Ultra ULT40010 - one for each hard Drive. I plan on using this as an exta machine for my backups and as a DVR for a security camera system. I am limited on space, thats why I picked the smaller case.
My desktop with WinXP installed seriously crashed. I had backed up all on a Seagate Free Agent storage device. I started using my laptop, with Vista Home Premium installed, for all my computer projects. I had backed these up but when I added the storage device to the laptop it told me I would have to format the drive before I could use it with the laptop. Of course, then all my backups would be lost. How can I get around this in order to install and/or reach my backups from the storage device to the laptop. I thought I'd be able to carry these backups from computer to computer but I find that is not the case.

As some of these backups were a few months old I thought I would do a bit of tidying, so I deleted some of the older sets. Todays backup failed. The only way I could get the daily backup to work was to create a new full backup first. So, is there any way of deleting old backups without creating a new full backup first?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had to rebuild my workstation. I performed a backup, but not a system recovery. Just want my files. It backed up all my files, but when I try to restore them using the restore client, it only shows a small subset of the files I had under my user directory. However, if I look at the ext. disk I backed them up to, I see hundreds of zip files. If I look into those files, I see all my missing files. How come I cannot see all these files in my restore client? Is there a way to fix this? P.S. I have taken ownership of these files using my new account.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use Acronis True Image 11 for backing up, all from the bootable CD, I don't have Acronis installed. After creating an image I verify it with Acronis. I also like to burn the image to DVDs and verify them on DVD also. When I burn them to DVDs with Vista, Acronis wont recognize them to verify or restore. If I burn them with Nero Acronis will verify them and can restore them. Any images burned to DVDs would already have been verified while on the HD before burning to DVDs. Any body know what the difference is between burning them with Nero verses Vista in relation to Acronis not recognizing the images burned to DVDs by Vista?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've got a new PC witn vista on it and i noticed that the edges on every window is blinking and it effects every windows i open espically the search bar in windows. Well i've searched every where for a solution and I found some. Some say the Display card, some say Bluetooth driver, some say ..... etc etc. Non of these solution helped me, and i bet som people are still buged with this problem.
Well I've found the solution Click on start and type "Services", Scroll down to "Shell Hardware Detection" right click on it and choose "Properties" Disable it from "Startup type" and Stop the service, a message will tell that another service will be stoped, and it asks you if you want to go on, well if you want to get rid of the blinking, you'd better go on. After stoping the service you will notice the blinking is gone, but just to make sure, restart the computer and check. I am sorry for not beeing able to attach any pictures to make it easier for some people, But i'm not good with writing threads either.
I've got my newsreader to re-read all newsgroups, but haven't found an (English) one for Windows 7. (I found microsoft.public.it.windows7(italian) point me to the English one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedThe latency symptoms I described have disappeared although Disk Cleanup might have removed something that was clogging up IE8 and/or the desktop. Besides that I reactivated Windows Defender, updated and ran it. But it found nothing. I then ran the latest MS Malicious Software Removal Tool and it found nothing. And I ran another KIS sweep. It noted something like a Java update I needed and a Firefox update I needed and after updating those then found no vulnerabilities. I also unloaded the game DVD, 'Prototype' that was in the tray installed and ready to play.
And at some point after rebooting I tried IE8 again and left it running for most of a day and the latency in its Favorites or in the desktop Task Bar has not returned once since. I loaded the game DVD again and played it a few times but left the DVD with the tray closed and still no latency issue has returned. This had been bothering me a number of days prior in-between reboots and running many several apps in the course of a day and seeing this latency problem many times, which was usually what would drive me to reboot since that would clear up the problem for a while............

I want to install XP in a multi boot configuration but get stuck in Disk Management and am unable to proceed from there. I'd like to keep Vista on my laptop, but if it comes down to it I'll need to take it off and put on XP because our work computers run with XP and we do a lot of work on reports and presentations from home and network from home. Someone who is completely trusted sent me an email with an attachment. The attachment was defined as a ZIPP file. I copied the file to my desktop and renamed it to a ZIP file to access the enclosed files. Within the ZIP are four OCX files which I need to copy to my System32 directory.
When I attempt to copy the files to any location in my computer, I get "Windows has found this file is potentially harmful. To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file." When I click on the "How does this help protect my computer." link it takes me to Windows Mail help. This has nothing to do with Windows Mail. Where can I adjust the Security settings in Windows to fix this problem
I have a new WD external hard drive that I'm trying use with Vista Ultimate, but when I connect the drive I get an error message saying,
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. USB Mass Storage Device Access is denied" I found a KB article which seems to be related, but even after acquiring and installing the hotfix I still can't get the drive to install. I backed up my Vista files to my desktop Hard disc. Vista said "the last file backup was successful". On hard disc was a new folder "name-PC" had appeared but this said "this folder is empty" So have I backed up or not?

Here is the problem. Please READ this and do not jump to conclusions (such as that the problem is a program association problem -- which it is NOT) that are not based on this scenario, nor recommend to me doing something that I have already tried.
- I receive a Word document attached to an e-mail.
- I double click on the document in the ATTACH box of the received e-mail.
- Windows Mail opens a MAIL ATTACHMENT window asking if I want to open the document.
- Word 2007 opens.
- Word 2007 opens a MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD window that says "This file could not be found. (C:...Filename ...)" where Filename is the name of the .DOC file.
The same thing happens with PDF files: Adobe Acrobat Reader opens but then opens an ADOBE READER window that says "There was an error opening this document. This file cannot be found.".........
I've heard conflicting reports as to whether Office 2000 will run successfully under Vista. In the hope that they are compatible, I installed Office 2000 and then installed (from the Microsoft site) updates SR-1a and SP-2. Then I downloaded SP3, but when I attempted to install it, I got the message "The expected version of the product was not found on your system." Is there some reason for this, or should I just try again? I looked for, but could not find, a newsgroup that deals with Office 2000 -- is there an alternative newsgroup that would be better for these questions?

I've installed a few games and both games are giving 2 errors saying that "This application has failed to start because WINMM.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". This pops up twice, and then the game starts and seems to work without any issues.

After some searching around the web it was suggested that I update DirectX. However, it appears that I am running the most recent version, DirectX 10. I am reluctant to update something that appears to be up to date.
It is true that d3dx9_40.dll is missing, but some of the suggestions I found on the web indicate that I should not merely download this dll. I am not a big gamer, just wanted to look at this game, and am reluctant to spend hours and hours reconfiguring my system, but I would like to know why I am getting this error and why DirectX 10 doesn't include d3dx9_40.dll.I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, I looked and didn't find anything that directly addresses this question.
