When I got this Vista machine, I started using the backup program. It's easier than copying files to various disks and diskettes.
Problem is probably pretty basic. The backups go week after week 'til they fill my external drive. They create one full backup, then a new subfolder every week 'til I run out of room.

I tried deleting "Backup File 1" and the next backup failed.
I'm having problems with a client running Windows Vista backup. Their external backup drive to which Vista is backing up data is filling up. Is there any way to tell Vista to "groom" the data, removing older data to keep the drive afloat? Or, is there way to have Vista completely reset the entire backup set on a regular schedule?

I've got windows backups from the beginning of 2009 and I keep about 6 Acronis backups.
I read an article about deleting old Update Backups in XP. The article showed where they were stored. Where are the old Vista Update Backup folders stored? I understand from the article that they take up considerable hard drive space. I don't intend on deleting the most recent but are there any others that should not be deleted?

I assume that file is still within the backupfile and will be reinstalled when and if you do a restore. Is there a simple way of removing files from your backup data so they = will not restore. Drive Coolers - Ultra ULT40010 - one for each hard Drive. I plan on using this as an exta machine for my backups and as a DVR for a security camera system. I am limited on space, thats why I picked the smaller case.
My desktop with WinXP installed seriously crashed. I had backed up all on a Seagate Free Agent storage device. I started using my laptop, with Vista Home Premium installed, for all my computer projects. I had backed these up but when I added the storage device to the laptop it told me I would have to format the drive before I could use it with the laptop. Of course, then all my backups would be lost. How can I get around this in order to install and/or reach my backups from the storage device to the laptop. I thought I'd be able to carry these backups from computer to computer but I find that is not the case.

As some of these backups were a few months old I thought I would do a bit of tidying, so I deleted some of the older sets. Todays backup failed. The only way I could get the daily backup to work was to create a new full backup first. So, is there any way of deleting old backups without creating a new full backup first?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had to rebuild my workstation. I performed a backup, but not a system recovery. Just want my files. It backed up all my files, but when I try to restore them using the restore client, it only shows a small subset of the files I had under my user directory. However, if I look at the ext. disk I backed them up to, I see hundreds of zip files. If I look into those files, I see all my missing files. How come I cannot see all these files in my restore client? Is there a way to fix this? P.S. I have taken ownership of these files using my new account.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use Acronis True Image 11 for backing up, all from the bootable CD, I don't have Acronis installed. After creating an image I verify it with Acronis. I also like to burn the image to DVDs and verify them on DVD also. When I burn them to DVDs with Vista, Acronis wont recognize them to verify or restore. If I burn them with Nero Acronis will verify them and can restore them. Any images burned to DVDs would already have been verified while on the HD before burning to DVDs. Any body know what the difference is between burning them with Nero verses Vista in relation to Acronis not recognizing the images burned to DVDs by Vista?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?

every time i start or reboot my pc, it always says fails to start. File: windows/system32/config/system status:0XC0000E9. i also did memory diag test and it says no prob on my pc. but evrytime i open my pc it always go throu to (safe mode, command prompt, windows start normally etc.) and click windows start normally to open my pc. it really botherd me a lot. i also try restore point and nothing happns. i also did reinstalling my vista but same problem appears. i cant find any solutions on the web regarding the 0XC0000e9.

Everything seems to have gone fine, apart from several updates which have failed.

In total there are 43 failed updates, the majority of which are listed as "Important". So, my question is how do I get these installed? I've followed the troubleshooting tips but can't find any help here. I've searched online, but nothing seems to help here either.
I already have a running vista 64bit on drive C: Earlier tonight I popped in vista 32bit hoping to install it on D: (separate physical drive) which had an Xp pro on it that i want to get rid off. When I chose to install the x86 vista on D: it all went smooth. the pc restarted and I saw the new title on the boot page. after that, as it was finishing up the installation, it asked me to "start" vista after the welcome page so i did, and there it happened.
suddenly the pc restarted and I would continuously from that point get a message on reboot saying "vista loader" and under it "fall back" and finally "boot failed!" I tried reloading the dvd and repairing but that didnt work. as a result the pc wont go in my original 64bit or the 32bit. finally, i had to overwrite the freshly installed 32bit with a fresh installation of the 64bit on drive D: which gave me access to my original 64bit on C: at least.
My previous setup was XP on drive C and Vista on drive D. Drive C has failed and been replaced, XP loaded.Vista is no longer available. Drive D files are intact but I do not know how to load Vista on that drive without wiping out the existing files. Looking for the brains I don't have...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have problem with uploading lots of small files to FTP over Vista. I tried few programs for FTP transfer and it doesn't resolve problem. If I uploaded big files (100 - 300 MB) FTP transfer working fine, but if I uploaded lots of small files (100 x 5 Kb etc.) connection was terminated after few files transfered (every 20 - 50 files). Error message is "server connection failed". If I try this on same computer with Win XP it is work fine.

It seems to have to do with some kind of registration. I have a Windows Update that works fine so it seems strange. The only thing that changed (as I know of) is that now I have in the corner of my lower right screen, a new message showing: Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6000 - I could have taken that if the install was a success.
1. I'd like the SP1 to work - it really needs, the filetransfer sucks...

I had to update my External Verbatim E drive as it was Full Disc. I now use WD Elements but i reformatted it to use on my Backup an Restore Auto BU. It backs up half my files then stops with this error message 0X81000014. Which says i don't have enough E drive disk space. Which is incorrect as i have 229 free of 298 GB on External E Drive. Also i had this error code 0X8007005>> Denied Access which i fixed. I tried several times same error message 0X8100014 pops up? I have never had this problem before with Verbatim.

I remote desktop into the xp machine at the office over the VPN. I need to print documents at home from the xp machine at the office. I have a wireless network at home with an HP printer connected to the router. I have 2 laptops at home, 1 runs xp and the other runs vista. Both laptops can print fine locally. Both laptops can romote into the office computer and run it fine. The xp machine at the office will print to the printer at home fine thru the xp laptop over the VPN. When using the vista laptop over the VPN to the office the home shows up and print jobs seem to go fine. .....EXCEPT...... only part of document prints. It may only print the first line or it may cut off the last few lines. It will print the "test page" with no problem.

I have tried to export my messages to an external HD. When I access the hd each folder has my .eml files and one wlmail.fol file. So I think they are actually there. also when I click on the fill it opens up in my wlmail, but I have spent the whole day trying to export and test an import on multiple computers before intalling win 7 and have failed.. "No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open" yes antivirus and firewalls are off. yes I have latest wlmail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dual boot setup where I boot from the first HD and start XP/Vista. Vista is installed on a separate disk. I don't use XP at all and want to remove that disk, but then I need to make the Vista disk bootable. The Vista install is on a raid volume. I googled a little bit and found some information about bootrec and tried to boot from the DVD and tried /fixboot, but nothing happens. When I load the recovery console it doesn't display any Vista installations, so I wasn't very surprised that bootrec failed. I then proceeded to load the driver for the raid controller, but still no installations are displayed... Is there a simple way to make a disk bootable for Vista - on a raid volume...?

I had to send in the laptop and they told me all they did is update the BIOS and it worked fine. Well ever since I had it back, I've noticed that there is user called "test" but I can't find it anywhere.
