Bootrec Failed

Mar 23, 2008

I have a dual boot setup where I boot from the first HD and start XP/Vista. Vista is installed on a separate disk. I don't use XP at all and want to remove that disk, but then I need to make the Vista disk bootable. The Vista install is on a raid volume. I googled a little bit and found some information about bootrec and tried to boot from the DVD and tried /fixboot, but nothing happens. When I load the recovery console it doesn't display any Vista installations, so I wasn't very surprised that bootrec failed. I then proceeded to load the driver for the raid controller, but still no installations are displayed... Is there a simple way to make a disk bootable for Vista - on a raid volume...?

Bootrec.exe Now Allows Boot Into Vista

May 13, 2010

In a fit of stupidity I installed Ubuntu on my laptop, and went with dual boot, but it just would not see my WiFi router regardless of what I tried, so got rid of it following some online advice, using the bootrec.exe/fixmbr command, which now allows me to boot straight into Vista. However, if you look at the pic attached you will see I have a huge lump of free space 41.64gb free space which I can't use for anything. Is there a way for me to re-combine the 41.64gb free space with the C: drive again, the options allowed are displayed in the pic, also there is another slice of the drive 5.37gb which I'd also like to be able to use.

I'm not sure I've made my self clear on what I'd like to acheive, which is to bring both of theses slices back in to the C: drive. On right clicking the 5.37gb drive the only option is Help, as neither of theses slices has a drive letter I don't see how I can do anything to them. The only options I have for the 41.64gb free space seems to be to make a simple volume (not sure what that actually means) or delete the partition. I'd like to get back to how it was before I installed Ubuntu, IE a C: & S: with no more partitions, preferably without having to re-install Vista. for clarity I've cut and pasted the options for each slice of the drive below the relevant slice

Right now I must keep installations disc installed in my DVD drive to boot.

Failed RAID Mirror, Both Drives Failed

May 23, 2008

I am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?

Failed Updates

Dec 23, 2009

I'm trying to update Vista Home Premium, on a laptop I have just purchased.

Everything seems to have gone fine, apart from several updates which have failed.

Some of the failed updates are:

Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465)
Update for Windows Live Sign-In Assistant (KB967912)
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB967723)
Security Update For Windows Vista (KB970710)

In total there are 43 failed updates, the majority of which are listed as "Important". So, my question is how do I get these installed? I've followed the troubleshooting tips but can't find any help here. I've searched online, but nothing seems to help here either.

64 And 32 Dual Failed

Feb 3, 2010

I already have a running vista 64bit on drive C: Earlier tonight I popped in vista 32bit hoping to install it on D: (separate physical drive) which had an Xp pro on it that i want to get rid off. When I chose to install the x86 vista on D: it all went smooth. the pc restarted and I saw the new title on the boot page. after that, as it was finishing up the installation, it asked me to "start" vista after the welcome page so i did, and there it happened.

suddenly the pc restarted and I would continuously from that point get a message on reboot saying "vista loader" and under it "fall back" and finally "boot failed!" I tried reloading the dvd and repairing but that didnt work. as a result the pc wont go in my original 64bit or the 32bit. finally, i had to overwrite the freshly installed 32bit with a fresh installation of the 64bit on drive D: which gave me access to my original 64bit on C: at least.

FTP Transfer Failed

Jun 10, 2008

I have problem with uploading lots of small files to FTP over Vista. I tried few programs for FTP transfer and it doesn't resolve problem. If I uploaded big files (100 - 300 MB) FTP transfer working fine, but if I uploaded lots of small files (100 x 5 Kb etc.) connection was terminated after few files transfered (every 20 - 50 files). Error message is "server connection failed". If I try this on same computer with Win XP it is work fine.

Failed Uppgrade SP1

Mar 26, 2008

I have a legit Vista Home Prem 32 on an Acer Aspire 5110 AMD Turion 64x2 TL-52 1.60 GHz. Problem: Unable to complete install SP1, and gets code 0x80004005. It seems to have to do with some kind of registration. I have a Windows Update that works fine so it seems strange. The only thing that changed (as I know of) is that now I have in the corner of my lower right screen, a new message showing: Windows Vista (TM) Evaluation copy. Build 6000 - I could have taken that if the install was a success.

1. I'd like the SP1 to work - it really needs, the filetransfer sucks...
2. If I can? t get 1 as above, how do I get that stupid message away?

Hp Reinstall Os Failed

Aug 17, 2008

I'm running Vista Home Premium and I've had a little issue with the quick launch buttons on my HP and I needed to reinstall the OS but failed miserably. I had to send in the laptop and they told me all they did is update the BIOS and it worked fine. Well ever since I had it back, I've noticed that there is user called "test" but I can't find it anywhere. I've created an admin user with my name, but that user will come on in the DOS command, I can see it everywhere but not my username. example, here is a pic It has bugged me a lot and I didn't do much about it, but now I really need to find a solution to change this "test" username to mine.

Failed SP1 Install Ruined OS.

Mar 26, 2008

Self explanatory. So bad I couldn't even boot in safe mode, or use the ACER recovery feature. It also destroyed every restore point, so no going back. Now I have no OS on my laptop and have to pay for a "Recovery disk" because Microsuck is too gutless to actually allow companies (like ACER) to send a physical Vista install disk with their computers. Needless to say I'm a little steamed.

System Restore Failed, OEM

Aug 28, 2009

My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function. In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update. I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.

Userinit.exe Failed To Inititialize...

Mar 22, 2009

I'm having a difficult problem to deal with.

A few days ago I rebooted my PC after the latest updates. I'm not saying this is the cause just giving a time frame.

Everything boots up fine till it get's to the welcome screen...then a pop up with the following message:

Userinit.exe failed to initialize (0x0000006)

Ctrl-Alt-Del works and allows me to reboot..in which the process repeats it's self...if I am lucky it boots up fine but the system is pretty sluggish, which suggest a virus of some kind but a Google search to fix this problem seems to offer as many fixes as possibilities and not many are successful.

Things I have tried:

Disk scan = No errors

Restore point= Doesn't fix it

Avast Virus scan= revealed a Trojan and it placed kernel32.dll & wsock32.dll. I deleted the trojan. I still have the other two files in the chest.

There's a few other things I could try like a Windows repair but I want to hopefully try other things before I take that step.
