System Crash: All Has Failed

Dec 19, 2008

When the computer starts up it gets to the loading screen and then crashes: A blue screen comes up with a load of type on it but the system does a crash dump before I can read what it says. The computer then restarts with an option to continue normally or launch startup repair. I than launch startup repair and it says it "cannot repair this computer automatically".

The diagnostics and repair details are as follows: "Number of repair attempts: 13......

Ultimate Crash: Failed Check The File System Integrity Check

Mar 26, 2008

Vista started giving a blue screen a couple of days ago. Mentioned something about a bad device, but no new devices have been added. Went through the typical steps, tried to boot in safe mode and got the following errors:

AtBroker.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Click OK.
Explorer.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Blue Screen

Then booted to my install dvd, tried to fix errors. Came back with a failed check at the file system integrity check. Ran the check a second time and no errors are found. Can't boot in safe mode, and when i try to repair errors I get no errors found.

Crash Failed Restore Screen Blank

Apr 28, 2008

I'm new to the forum and not very technical. OS: Vista Home Premium 32 Background: In the last few days, my Vista went horribly wrong - it crashed and I dont know why. I havent added anything new apart from software - BBC iPlayer. Plsu, a lexmark printer driver for an X1100 has never worked - it is not vista approved but the printer has worked. I tried restoring to an older version using my original install CD but it fails. Observation: The PC does startup now but when I click on my account login - I get a blank screen and explorer doesnt display - there is no desktop. If I press Ctrl-Alt-Del - I can see the usual choices...

Black Screen: System Crash And Rebooted System

Mar 30, 2008

I have a problem currently with Windows Vista Ultimate(Integrale), this occurred last Friday evening. I was finishing off a word document when suddenly all went black. As an end user I assumed this was a system crash and so rebooted my system, then ran registry repair, then checked for viruses etc with Live OneCare, eventually reloaded Vista all to no avail. Each time I rebooted I was greeted by a black screen after logging in.

I called my tech support who could not help but I did manage to gain access to the internet and after a short while found an item entitled Black Screen Death. This reported that all my problems where due to Microsoft thinking I had a non genuine copy of Vista it went on to explain how you could circum-navigate the problem (this I did and even though I have to repeat this process each time I log on I can use Windows normally). I purchased my copy of Vista Ulitimate from a large chain store at the not give away price of over 400 Euros and registered the same online on the day of installation and have been running for sometime with other Microsoft products including Live OneCare. Why then am I suddenly crippled for an entire weekend by Microsoft security and how can I rectify the situation perminently

My system did an auto update yesterday and InDesign CS3 no longer worked. So I did a system restore to the day before yesterday. During the restore process, the system crashed before completing. Now I cannot get it to restore to any point at all - seems to go through the process but on restart it tells me that it was unsuccessful.

Scandisk After System Crash

Mar 23, 2008

Yeahsr ago in the DOS days, everytime my computer would crash I would always do a scandisk or check disk to view and delete lost clusters and look for file errors on the hard drive due to the crash. With Windows vista, is there any need to check for these things after a system crash? I find I can't run chkdsk from the cmd prompt in Vista, does annyonw know how? And also, do I need to or as I said above, is there a different way of doing this? What's the normal thing I can do in Vista to check the HD for file problems on my C drive, after a system crash.

System Crash On Full Backup To WD External Drive

Jun 15, 2008

I have a WD MyBook 1TB external hard drive. It's a replacement for a LaCie drive that I broke accidentally. Because I broke my LaCie, which held all my backups, I need to do a full system backup so I have one on file. (I'm running Windows Vista Business SP1 on a Compaq Presario laptop. I've tried this both before and after SP1 and have got the same result.)

The weekly file-only backups I have scheduled with Windows Backup work fine. It's only the full system backup that gives me problems. Everything goes as planned: I select the MyBook as the destination, and Windows starts the backup. Once it gets near the end (I'd say about 90% done according to the status bar), I get the blue crash screen. Here's what it says: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Stop: 0X000000D1 (0X00000004, 0X00000002, 0X00000001, 0C807503FF)nvstor.sys - Address 807503FF base at 8074C000, DateStamp 458d543d It doesn't restart after that, it just sticks on the blue screen. I have to shut the computer off and then turn it back on to do anything. Can anyone clue me in on what might be going on? I thought maybe my driver was out of date, but Windows Update can't find a newer one, neither can it when I go into the device's properties. Unless I'm missing something there, or it's something other than a driver issue.

System Restore Failed, OEM

Aug 28, 2009

My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function. In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update. I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.

Failed System Restore: Can Not Access HDD

Jun 29, 2008

Noticed that this happened after a failed System Restore. I remember System Restore saying something about the HDD not being restored because it was not plugged in. I continued with the restore but it failed. I tried 3 times and the restore failed every time. Finally a restore in Safe Mode Worked. Now, when I plug in My Book Western Digital 500GB External HDD, Vista says that a driver could not be found. Even manually pointing to the System32 folder didn't work. I went to the WD website and no driver...just diagnostics and a control GUI or something. Since Vista can 'SEE' the HDD but can't 'OPEN THE DOOR', is there an alternate solution? I even ReInstalled the OS thinking that would somehow fix the problem. (I also had SP1). I need to be able to access this drive to recover Picture of my New Born baby Girl.

System Went Auto Activation Failed

Mar 9, 2009

On my Dell Studio 17 I had Vista Ultimate x32 pre-loaded. I used a Vista Ultimate 64 bit CD to wipe it clean and hand-install. Interestingly enough, even though I checked the key/serial (that was on the sticker on the PC) re-checked and did it all over again, when the system went to auto-activate, it failed. So, I put in the same serial AGAIN after it failed , and voila - it worked! This is not the first time I've seen this though. My wife's desktop PC had Vista Home Premium on it, which I had to wipe in favor of WinXP Pro because of some incompatibilities with apps she was using for school. When she was done with those classes, I put Vista back on, and the exact same thing happened.

Windows Failed To Start, System Restore

Dec 29, 2008

My laptop (Advent 8117 running Vista if that helps) has been working fine, then this morning things went pear-shaped. To begin with things worked as usual - Everything seemed to load up as normal, I left the room for maybe 5-10 minutes and when I returned there was a black screen. I waited a while and nothing happened so I restarted. It comes up with 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.' From there I can either start normally or run a repair. It doesn't seem to matter what I click here because I get a 'Techguys' support thing come up either way but now nothing on it works. To begin with I ran the Repair Environment, but it couldn't fix it. I also got to try a System Restore but I seem to have no points to restore to. Now I can't get the Techguys page to do anything. So I tried running in Safe Mode but once again I'm faced with the unmoving Techguys page, and the same goes for when I try and load from the Last Know Good Configuration. I desperatly don't want to have to lose everything.

Access Files In Most System Folders Failed

Feb 25, 2008

I am new to Vista having just purchased a laptop with Vista Home Premium running on it. As a long time user of Windows XP, I have encounterd a Vista issue that perpelexes me. From my days with XP, I am quite used to access files in most system folders, to check on them or occasionly even modify them - for example changing the Startup layout. However, in Vista, I am unable to access such directories as "Application data" or "Local Settings" even while using my administrator account. These aand other inaccessible directories have a unique icon with an arrow running through it, as if they were shortcut files. This suggests that they are somehow special to Vista. My question is whether these files are really unacessable to all users with even the highest security privleges, or have I configured something wrong in Vista's rather "curious" security system?

Failed RAID Mirror, Both Drives Failed

May 23, 2008

I am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?

Constantly Crash's

Jan 5, 2008

it's getting kinda boring now surely those nuggets over at microsoft are aware of all the problems with vista since i changed over i have made it a point to make sure i only use vista compatable hardware and software but that doesn't seem to help as the only stable software that runs(without crashing) was programmed for XP now that is just silly and a software company's excuse is ''we had to rush it onto the market'' so what does that mean, did they not even test their software now wishing i got a mac instead as microsoft and software company's need to pull their fingers out and start doing things properly i would rather wait 6 months for a game or app that actually works than spend the money to find out that it doesn't do what it says on the box all this due to the fact that not one app or game designed with vista in mind will run without crashing repeatedly over and over again so what does vista do other than try to look good not alot just gives you a headache as you wonder yet again why your computer has either crashed or just shut down what seemed to be an app or game that didn't seem to have a problem when it all of a sudden ends the app or game it even closed chess on me as it encountered a problem i understand that these things do happen but not on this scale this is just to often and microsoft really need a shoe put up there rear for not addressing these issue's sooner.

Syncing Causes WMP To Crash

I have tried to do this same thing with different media, but I still have my WMP crashing. I have checked Microsoft for any updates, but it seems that I have kept my computer in good condition (I've only had this computer for about 1 month now). The WMP crashing issue is a recurring problem for me so now I'm at my last resort. What do I do?

Hdd Partition Crash

Jun 8, 2008

Factory re-installation from hidden hdd partition after crash complete reformat of C: PLUS installation of all updates incl SP1. AVG fully updated and scanned daily, ditto Ad-Aware and Spybot. IE7 is apparently corrupt, certainly giving major problems. The "quick-start" icon, when right-clicked to "run as Administrator" yields the message "This program is unsigned, do you really want to run" (starts normally when run as "user"). Plus (just one of many problems both as User or Administrator) click a "print" link on a website, IE7 greys out, looks for a "solution on the web", then restarts ...and yes, I have both Java and Activex latest versions, loaded).

As a work-around I'm using Firefox (which does EXACTLY what I expect of a browser, and I used to do in IE6). IE7 is supposedly "core" to Vista OS, can't help feeling that something is seriously wrong, and I may have OS problems as yet undiscovered. Is there a way of reloading just IE7, or are there registry tweaks to correct?
