I'm new to the forum and not very technical. OS: Vista Home Premium 32 Background: In the last few days, my Vista went horribly wrong - it crashed and I dont know why. I havent added anything new apart from software - BBC iPlayer. Plsu, a lexmark printer driver for an X1100 has never worked - it is not vista approved but the printer has worked. I tried restoring to an older version using my original install CD but it fails. Observation: The PC does startup now but when I click on my account login - I get a blank screen and explorer doesnt display - there is no desktop. If I press Ctrl-Alt-Del - I can see the usual choices...
I have my laptop(Vista Home premium 32 bit) fine and running from past 1 and half year. Suddenly from 5 days I am facing 'Display driver nvlddmkm failed and restore successfully'. Don't know when and why this happens. So I thought of restoring my system to 5 days back.I selected System restore back up point to 23rd of September,09.During this process something got messed up and when restarted it is showing 'blue screen' . Nothing else is visible.I'm able to login through safe mode.but don't know what to do with this. I also tried to do system repair. But no use.Ended up with same. Tried to do system restore again. Even if I want to reinstall Vista, manufacturer has not provided any backup cd with my laptop.
When the computer starts up it gets to the loading screen and then crashes: A blue screen comes up with a load of type on it but the system does a crash dump before I can read what it says. The computer then restarts with an option to continue normally or launch startup repair. I than launch startup repair and it says it "cannot repair this computer automatically".
The diagnostics and repair details are as follows: "Number of repair attempts: 13......
My system did an auto update yesterday and InDesign CS3 no longer worked. So I did a system restore to the day before yesterday. During the restore process, the system crashed before completing. Now I cannot get it to restore to any point at all - seems to go through the process but on restart it tells me that it was unsuccessful.
new to this not a techie but will give it a bash.i have a dell dimension c521 the other day i downloaded update program for virgin pc guaurd anti-virus software.after install i couldnt get onto internet,so i did a system restore, everything was resetting then the system crashed,it will not boot up now,i have tried to start in safe mode but when it goes by the microsft load light bar (before vista logo) the screen is just blank left it for hrs nothing happens.
I have been trying to create the recovery disk for my Acer laptop, I have used the eRecovery management and when I insert the DVD-R disk it comes up with the message burning failed insert a blank DVD.
The system has been stable for some time but today while working in Excel I got an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL 0A BSOD, rebooted and within 5 minutes got SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 3B BSOD and now getting this repeatedly. My best guess right now is that a stick of RAM has failed so have removed all but one 2GB stick and no crashes so far - will run some memory tests on each stick in turn tomorrow. I really hope that's all it is (& I can get it replaced under warranty!) and it's not a mobo fault.
The BIOS did go into recovery mode when I tried to enter it, that's okay now but the raid 5 array is re-initialising as a result . The auto memory timings have never matched the spd (slower) but that never bothered me but I think I'll manually set to the stated timings of 4-4-4-12 depending on what the tests reveal. Only real SW change apart from usual MS updates is I installed VMC TV Pack and USB wifi adapter a few days ago but I'd have expected to see this sooner if that was the cause. From what I've read a 3B is more likely hardware anyway?
I'm getting blue screen crashes and I am unable to open up the mini dump files to try and locate the problem.

I went to accessories/system tools/system restore and clicked it. I then got a small dialogue window asking if I wanted to continue and I clicked continue. That little window disappeared but then nothing hasppened. I was expecting to see a list of possible restore points but nothing showed on my screen. I clicked system restore again and got a message that system restore was already running and would now exit.
Vista suddenly would not boot yesterday. Getting BS of Death errors: c000021a and c000012f at times. First it reported it was unable to find ADVAPI32.DLL. Upon doing diagnostics after hitting F8 during startup, it says error code 2000-0146 with Hard Drive 1. What the heck is going on, and how do I fix this? Dell Inspiron 1525, manufactured 7/2008. Of course, warranty ran out...go figure. Vista Home Premium. Will *never* buy another Dell again. Nothing but problems with every one of them.
My computer recently started crashing, mostly during video games (Crysis, Call of Duty 4), and occasionaly during a movie. The screen goes black, then fills with vertical pinstrips over the entire screen, and the sound 'freezes' like a skipping CD, repeating what was last said or heard over and over rapidly. Ok,... recent changes i've made. I've had a new video card for about a month, but everything worked fine until a week ago.
I installed the two above mentioned video games, which use punkbuster, a product I have no experience with. Incidentaly, the problems began about the time I started using punkbuster. However, I restored the system to a point previous to the punk buster installation, and the system is still crashing. Is it my new video card (ATI Radeon B2 512 HD 2600 xt PCI), or something else.
I am new to this forum so I hope you'll be patient with me. I have a MSI MS-163C laptop with 2GB of RAM and a Intel Dual Core Processor. I have received a copy of Vista Ultimate 64 Bit addition as part of my MAPS subscription and thought that would give it a go, my current version is 32 bit. I have researched and found that 3 to 4GB of RAM is recommended for 64 bit so I purchased 2 x 2GB sticks from FutureShop [Buffalo DDR II / 667mhz PC2 5300 However, anytime that I install any more than the 2GB already in the computer the computer goes to a "Blue" crash screen and I can't go any further. I checked the ram that is in the computer and they are 1GB sticks 667mhz, pretty much the same. If I take both of them out and install just one of the 2GB sticks the computer seems OK, but even if I install a 1GB with it to make it 3GB it crashes again. I am trying to determine for myself it this might be a BIOS problem or what,
I can connect my laptop to my computer and get sound and video with absolutely no problem. Where I run into my issue: When it's connected, the TV turn into the monitor and my laptop goes blank. (I believe I selected this option not knowing what the outcome would be when my windows vista laptop was connected to the TV for the very first time). I absolutely dislike that I have to work all my functions through my TV and would like my laptop monitor to display a screen at the same time. Is that possible to undo what I caused?
I read somewhere that if you go to the Power Options, advanced options, processor power management, and change the value of the minimum processor state to 100%."
I can no longer take the multiple blue screen crash dumps. I have 32-bit Vista Home Premium on an HP Pavilion. After seeing those internal emails among Microsoft's top executives that were released in a lawsuit a couple of weeks ago -- they were complaining to each other about the same problems on their home computers with peripherals and drivers that I've been having -- I called HP tech this morning and said I want to install XP Professional and that I have a licensed copy on disk.
The HP tech guy, based in Oregon rather than India for a change, said all I had to do was copy the files I want to keep onto my external hard drive and then put the XP disk in the machine and it will direct me to format the hard drive.....and then install. I recall reading somewhere that the chipsets or something in the guts of this machine -- I'm not a techie -- are designed for Vista and will not accept XP without some serious tinkering at the motherboard/chipset neurosurgery level.
im running vista basic 32bit had a blue screen crash, memory dump i have re installed 5 times, last time used disk part to clean completely ive got the os back up but have many probs with windows update, firewall, and downloading to c:. which i feel is the main problem.

I seem to be getting a blue screen error and crash on Vista Ultimate 64. Can't figure out what it is exactly, It has happened while using firefox and IE. But no common denominators. So far I am using firefox now without a crash, but it has crashed 3 times. I also saw a pop-up about task manager not working after one of the crashes.

I am having what seems to be the common problem of trying to run the 64 bit version of crysis and getting a black screen then crash right after launching the game. I have done a lot of searching and did a few of the suggestions like uninstalling the Nvidia Network Access Manager, changed my settings to force vsync both on and off, and set single display performance mode. I have tried both exes in the 64bin file, launching from the vista game explorer and my drivers are up to date. Also like others the 32bit version works fine. I have also reinstalled the game.
I had 2.5GB of RAM in HP laptop. OS - vista home premium service pack2.
The system works fine.
I upgraded to 4GB RAM(2*2GB). when upgraded to 4GB in bios able to see as ~3.33GB of RAM. I am able to see microsoft progress bar also, but after that the screen is blank and able to hear windows logon sound but no display. The screen is black.
When installed only the new 2GB of RAM the system work fine. So no problem with the new 2GB also. But with 4GB the screen is blank. I have nvidia GeForce 7400 graphics card. Is there any configuration need to be done in vista before installing 4GB of RAM?
I accidently turned my Dell laptop off while it was performing windows updates. When I restarted the laptop it goes to the login screen and then goes blank (i cant enter the username/password).
I have tried the following: 1. Starting in safe mode (same issue) 2. Using the boot dvd and trying the different options in there (Repair, Restore to safe point, Memory check). 3. Using the boot dvd I have tried several different restore points, including the original store point. 4. I have looked through every forum and every post I can find and cannot find any suggested resolutions.
If go to Help And Support or click (or use F1 key) for anym windows' applications, the Help & Support Screen comes up but is blank. If type something in search get following message. HELP TOPIC NOT FOUND: "This Content Under Construction". "We Were Unable To Retrieve The required Topic". Have tried all the reg. fixes have seen for restoring Help & Support and ones relevant to this particular error message without success. No other problems with Vista Ultimate and have no idea why or when occurred.
I have 4 vista 32 bit machines. 1 will update beautifully. When I go to run the Windows update, the other 3 "time out". They sit there with a blank box on the screen for well over 5 minutes, before in sheer frustration, I trash it. I know at least 1 machine is saying it has 350Mb of downloads to do, but when I tell it to start, it does nothing. All are running SP1.
I have scheduled a chkdsk to take place the next time I restart my computer and when I restarted it, the problem started! After the Boot Screen finished booting nothing happens, the screen stays blank. I have left it for hours and still nothing happens. How can I solve this problem? I also wanted to mention that I have changed my boot screen using this tutorial. I didn't really have any problem after following that tutorial but I only wanted to mention that...
I recently updated my Vista, using the normal windows update. This made my WHOLE operating system go completely retarded, but once I used safe mode a couple of times it sorted out. I recently installed Ubuntu, so I can dual-boot my laptop. Now, all of a sudden after the Ubuntu install, my windows vista is broken!! I get to the log in screen, and i log in as normal, and then i get to my desktop - which is just a blank white screen with my curser on it. I can press CTRL-ALT-DEL, and i can log off and shut down, but I can not use task manager, and it gives me an error message saying something like 'it can not run' or something.
Whenever I start my computer (HP Pavilion dv5 laptop) from being shut off or if I choose "restart" from the start menu when Windows Vista (64 bit) opens up it opens up to a blank screen. - I have a curser I can control with the touchpad or mouse (I can't recall what happens to a right click function...) - the screen looks completely black (uniform in color) I need to exit using control+alt+delete and then log off and log back on. Only then will I get the desktop top to show for me.
Rebuilding my system, new motherboard, optical drives (Sata) new CPU Intel DUAL 8400. Install Windows Settings OK till naming PC, Then Blank screen. No Signal. Changed GPU. No Signal. Removed HDD and reformatted. Replaced , still no Bios, blank screen
Vista started giving a blue screen a couple of days ago. Mentioned something about a bad device, but no new devices have been added. Went through the typical steps, tried to boot in safe mode and got the following errors:
AtBroker.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Click OK. Explorer.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Blue Screen
Then booted to my install dvd, tried to fix errors. Came back with a failed check at the file system integrity check. Ran the check a second time and no errors are found. Can't boot in safe mode, and when i try to repair errors I get no errors found.
restart of my system? Event viewer? I was on line reading news when my system gave me a blue screen, couldnt read everything fast enough... something to the fact it shut down to protect windows.....it was a full screen of dialogthen restarted. Hasnt ever happened before.. didnt click on any links or anything...seems to be running fine after restart.
i installed my 8800 gts with the cd that came with it...rebooted, but all the monitor shows is a black screen (yes the monitor plug thingy is connected to the new gfx card). since the black screen came up, i switched the input back to the integrated gfx card. how do i disable the onboard (integrated) gfx card so that my comp will detect the 8800gts on startup cuz right now it detects nvidia geforce 6150 se (on board gfx card) even if i uninstall it.
