System Restore Failed Not Able To Boot Up - Blue Screen

Sep 29, 2009

I have my laptop(Vista Home premium 32 bit) fine and running from past 1 and half year.
Suddenly from 5 days I am facing 'Display driver nvlddmkm failed and restore successfully'. Don't know when and why this happens. So I thought of restoring my system to 5 days back.I selected System restore back up point to 23rd of September,09.During this process something got messed up and when restarted it is showing 'blue screen' . Nothing else is visible.I'm able to login through safe mode.but don't know what to do with this. I also tried to do system repair. But no use.Ended up with same.
Tried to do system restore again. Even if I want to reinstall Vista, manufacturer has not provided any backup cd with my laptop.

System Restore + Blue Screen = Virus?

Jan 20, 2009

I've got Win Vista Home Premium SP1. Up until recently, when i chose System Restore it came up with a calander-like window and then i was able to choose the day i wanted my sistem restored to. Then a few days ago I experienced a crash, and it took my pc a while to check my disk (the only one, since it's a laptop).

That's the checking:

Then i manged to enter Vista again, and i thought i'd just restore again, hoping nothing was wrong. And when i clicked System Restore it took absolutely AGES to open (the rest of the stuff worked/s well...) and when it eventually opened i got that:

And now, if i choose "Choose a different restore point", i get this:

Where has the calender gone? Where are my previous restore points??? What's wrong?

Then, yesterday i was checking bbc's webpage and i came across this article: Click

System Restore, Blue Screen, Random

Apr 13, 2008

I bought this computer on 3-5-08. This started on 3-16-08 and has occurred about 1x - 3x per day since then. I have tried system restore, several times, back as far as I could go, but it didn't help. I have also ran all of the diagonstic tools I can find on my computer and it has passed them. (By the way, I am not very computer savvy.) Here is one examples of what it is telling me:

Blue Screen After Failed SP1 Installer

Oct 10, 2009

So my friend's computer tried downloading Service Pack 1 and it failed during the process and now every time Vista loads to start up it goes right to a blue screen. And when I put in a CD/DVD it will show the black screen and load the CD/DVD but after it loads it goes straight to the boot process. Even after I disabled the HDD from being loaded in the bios. Also, there is no option to run under safe mode. Just setup, system recovery, and boot process pop up before Vista starts to load. I should also mention that nothing other than setup will actually do anything.

System Restore Failed, OEM

Aug 28, 2009

My system restore fails every time I attempt it. This has happened the last 3 times I had a need to attempt restore. (Three attempts separated by months in time, about different issues.) This time, I am thinking something may be wrong with my system restore function. In this case, it is simply a matter of trying to roll back a browser update. I saw a whole list of available restore points, and I went to the second one back - from only a few days ago. The restore failed. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium, OEM from Gateway Laptop about 1.5 yrs old. I allow most updates.

System Restore: Restore Points But Nothing Showed On Screen

That little window disappeared but then nothing hasppened. I was expecting to see a list of possible restore points but nothing showed on my screen. I clicked system restore again and got a message that system restore was already running and would now exit.

Failed System Restore: Can Not Access HDD

Jun 29, 2008

Noticed that this happened after a failed System Restore. I remember System Restore saying something about the HDD not being restored because it was not plugged in. I continued with the restore but it failed. I tried 3 times and the restore failed every time. Finally a restore in Safe Mode Worked. Now, when I plug in My Book Western Digital 500GB External HDD, Vista says that a driver could not be found. Even manually pointing to the System32 folder didn't work. I went to the WD website and no driver...just diagnostics and a control GUI or something. Since Vista can 'SEE' the HDD but can't 'OPEN THE DOOR', is there an alternate solution? I even ReInstalled the OS thinking that would somehow fix the problem. (I also had SP1). I need to be able to access this drive to recover Picture of my New Born baby Girl.

Windows Failed To Start, System Restore

Dec 29, 2008

My laptop (Advent 8117 running Vista if that helps) has been working fine, then this morning things went pear-shaped. To begin with things worked as usual - Everything seemed to load up as normal, I left the room for maybe 5-10 minutes and when I returned there was a black screen. I waited a while and nothing happened so I restarted. It comes up with 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.' From there I can either start normally or run a repair. It doesn't seem to matter what I click here because I get a 'Techguys' support thing come up either way but now nothing on it works. To begin with I ran the Repair Environment, but it couldn't fix it. I also got to try a System Restore but I seem to have no points to restore to. Now I can't get the Techguys page to do anything. So I tried running in Safe Mode but once again I'm faced with the unmoving Techguys page, and the same goes for when I try and load from the Last Know Good Configuration. I desperatly don't want to have to lose everything.

System Restore Is Not Working, Attempt Failed

Jun 13, 2009

I'm in the process of rebuilding my wife's Sony Viao after Sony reimaged the HD (Vista Home Premium) and got to the point where I wanted to create a restore point. This attempt failed, I went into SAFE mode and tried again and I get a message "The Volume Shadow Copy service used by System Restore is not working. For more information view the event log. (0x81000202). I go to the Event Viewer and it fails "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running." When I go to the "Services" I don't see any entry for the "Event Log" - what should I be looking for? How do I get the system restore working?

Boot Loop : Blue Screen

Aug 4, 2008

I purchased a new machine and It seems to run through OK and then decides to do what I call a 'boot loop'. It goes through the 'normal' Dos-like screens, does a blue-screen 'chkdsk' thingy (says that windows was shut-down incorrectly - which it wasn't) and then asks if I want to start in one of the tasty flavours of 'safe mode'. Now, I've been to safe-mode, being the submissive I can be, but that accomplishes nothing, except the grace of a computer stuck in the Middle Ages. Anyway, I decide to start Windows as 'normal' and it goes on this 'boot loop'. The good news is that it usually (90%+) makes it to the desktop and the system sings sweetly thereafter. My concern is that there is a little gremlin stuck somewhere in my system and I want to find a way to exorcise the beast. Note: I can provide more specific 'screen' data if needed, i.e. taking a photo of the offending screens.

Safe Modem And Boot Up, Get Blue Screen

Aug 24, 2008

I've been getting some troubles with my Vista computer booting up. Whenever I restart it (or even turn it off and then back on without leaving it for a long while), it will crash during the loading screen, and then restart, and then crash, creating an endless loop unless I boot up in Safe Mode. Once I'm up in Safe Mode, and go to restart, there are no troubles at all, and I can use the computer normally. So, for the time being, I must for boot up in Safe Mode and then restart in normal mode. Occasionally, I get a blue screen before the boot up fails and the computer shuts down, only to restart and continue the endless cycle. When I do get to the desktop (using the Safe Mode trick I mentioned earlier), I may get an error message, containing this info:.....

System Boots Then Blue Screen

Sep 26, 2009

all day I've been trying to sort this out but to no avail. I've searched Google like crazy, and whilst I've found that others have had this issue there's been no real resolution. My system boots all the way up to the point of the loading bar, then it goes blue screen and restarts. I've found that it loads up in safe mode, and I can access all my drives (I've tried unplugging external devices), and I'm 99% certain that running a system restore would fix the issue. HOWEVER, safe mode revokes me of all rights to perform any system based tasks, so obviously it won't allow me to run system restore, regedit, pretty much anything. Here's what I've tried so far:

-Running system repair through a boot disk, it didn't find anything wrong

-I tried running system restore through the boot disk but apparently there weren't any restore files (which isn't true)

Blue Screen: System Helted

Apr 6, 2008

I am building this mach from scratch, so I picked Vista hardware.Such as:Abit IP35v mobo, Intel P4-D 930, OCZ Pc 6400 DDR2 2x2gig(4gig) and MSI NS8500GT TD256E-OC PCIe 16x video.Pioneer DvD DL writer SATA.Others: Rosewill RAID PCIe 1x controller w/2ea Seagate 250G SATA2 HD, 2ea TV tuners 550 Theater Pro, Fatal1ty X-Fi sound..The only hardware items migrating to the New box, from my old box, is the TV tuners & X-Fi sound brd... all PCI devices..I am trying to install Vista from scratch, I purchased an OEM copy of Home Premium. After wrestling with trying to find a Partitioning prog that would Boot from a SATA DvD ROM, I plugged my PATA model in and was able to partition the RAID volume... But got a Blue screen saying something about "my system was halted to save it from damage, etc" stopped at 0x0000012(0x00000000,0x8BC50028,0x000000,0x00000000)...

When I Booted from Vista CD, and started the install... That was with all hardware in place..I have removed everything, now I have Mobo, mem, CPU/ sink, video, PATA DvD
& 1ea SATA HD, partitioned w/ Pri NTFS Bootable, on port 1..I still get Blue screen, but the numbers are alittle differant..Only the numbers changed to 0x8BD9DD18..The install goes as far as Displaying "Microsoft Corp" with a green strobe L>R... and then Blue screens about 1-2mins into the install... or should I say after the strobe appears..Any ideas? I have tried a differant video card, but it Blue screens almost emediatly when the green strobes starts up... with different numbers again.0x8BD50028.

System Restore, Wouldn't Boot

Jul 29, 2009

I downloaded a film ( a backup o one of my DVD's it has got scratched and I really wanted to see it as well. Anyway when I did I opened up the video file into windows media player, it asked me to get some rights/ acquisitions to play the file. As the message was coming from windows media player I guess hmm it must be true. Usually I wouldn't if anything asked me to download anything. As it finished windows media message came up with a message to say it was downloaded correctly. So I checked task manager making sure it was actually windows media player and it was. When I tried playing the file it wouldn't play.

Whatever it downloaded hadn't taken effect yet. Then I blue screened. My laptop wouldn't boot up normally. So I tried booting up with " last good configuration" it booted up but I found out what had happened. All my programmes were "corrupted" something to do with the registry according to the 60 pop up messages saying each and every programme had been corrupted.........

Memory Upgrade: Install Additional 2Gb, I Get A Blue-screen Every Time I Boot

Is there a way to determine if my installation of Vista already has this installed? I've already checked the Control Panel/Windows Update/Review Update History, it's not in there, I thought it may be in the core install on the DVD?

Blue Green Screen Wouldn't Working System

Sep 15, 2009

my problem being stuck at the blue/green screen while making a new fresh install.) Well I first signed up because I have was having install problems. When it got to the blue/green screen it wouldnt do anything. But what do u know.. right when I was typing this it starts to load and Im now on my way installing windows vista 64 bit! (cause I just recently bought 8gb of memory) Well... I guess I would explain my story since Im a newbie... and something for you guys to read.. Well my computer really needed a new HDD because for some reason my old one would always get curupted after like so many months... about 2-3 months? I was wow **** this. I wasnt sure why it was doing this. But my computer was only on a surge so I think maybe a couple power outages ****ed it up. (I already fixed that problem though, just bought a battery from newegg.com, when I bought more things, like my new hdd, memory, mouse and mouse pad.)

so finally my memory and windows vista x64 bit dvd came into the mail. As soon as I got em... I installed the memory then I wanted to upgrade my version of windows xp 32bit (I must say a really good OS at the moment, till when windows 7 comes out) So I tried just throwing in the cd and found out I couldnt upgrade that way. Because I got an error that said "somethin, cant remember the full message but bascially because I couldnt run 64bit dvd when I have 32bit" so no biggie right? Then I was like ok well I can just install it by booting up. I got passed the part that said "Now loading windows vista files" alright not bad... so far so good. But damn I was wrong when I got to the blue/green background. I noticed the dvd wasn't spinning my computer was just sitting there. It was frozen though since I could still move the mouse. So I was like oh man... cmon vista... Well I waited a little bit not to much though cause I think it should just pop up and start working. It wasnt doing that so I knew something was wrong......

System Restore Disk, Cannot Boot Into Window Or Safe Mode

Jan 30, 2010

I cannot boot into window or safe mode ( I could figure it out from there). I also tried to check the Bios and saw nothing. The laptop only has 2 gigs of RAM I think, so I would assume 32 Bit, but I want to be sure. Also, if I used the wrong one, would it mess up the computer? or could I just redo it with the other CD?

Analyze Blue Screen: No Consistency Of Circumstances, A Blue Screen Will Appear!

Jun 30, 2008

Business with SP1
Sony laptop, fast core2duo, 4GB
Defender+Avast!
Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:

Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.

It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?

PerfectDisk System File Defragmenter, Boot Screen Increased

Apr 5, 2009

I just reformated and noticed that it took Vista an average of 12 seconds for the boot screen to finish loading (I didn't count before or after that, just from when I see the green bar to when it finishes). After installing PerfectDisk 10 and doing an entire disk defragmentation, the time stayed about the same. But when I did a boot time defragment of my system files, the loading time for the boot screen actually increased to 40 seconds! I've rebooted about 5 times to measure the times and I've gotten up to 60 seconds as well!Has anyone else who uses PerfectDisk had similar experience? Did the boot time get better over time or did it stay the same? Also, in the program settings, it asks me whether I want PerfectDisk to manage my layout.ini file or if I want Windows to handle them; does anyone know which is preferred?

"Blue Screen Of Death" And Won't Even Boot Up

Aug 12, 2007

I bought a new Compaq computer to replace our 7 year old 667Mhz machine. We've had XP on our old unit for years. It ran slow and other issues with an older machine.

We set out to upgrade so we can run our cool games (warcraft, Sims 2 etc), along with some multimedia production software like GoldWave, Photoshop CS 2 with the latest equipment. Many of my programs are image files and only have a few of the original disks, so I've been using virtual CD ROM program(s).

After waiting for a week for our new Compaq SR5130NX computer I'm disgustingly disappointed.
The machine is great- Dual AMD 64 processors working in tandom- fast bus speed and GeForce 7300 graphics card. I really like my hardware but does NO good with an OS that SUCKS.

Only about 1/3 of the programs I need/want to run actually work on Vista. I found NO virtual CD-ROM software that works. I even tried the Elby virtual drive but the cursor only changes to a perpetual rotating circle which eventually crashes the OS and forces it to load a restore point.

I tried Alcohol virtual CD-ROM software but it too crashes the OS- so bad that I get the "Blue screen of death" and won't even boot up.

I've had to run my system restore disks 4 times now trying to find which of my programs run and which won't. (Keeps on crashing)

Honestly, I think WINDOWS 95 v1 is better.

I've finally given up in disgust, realizing my new machine just won't run the programs I bought it for, and wish to God I could run XP or even W98 on it. But alas, I understand they don't make drivers for older OS's for my new machine.

Since Microsoft have forced computer MFG's to adopt this BETA JUNK OS on all their new machines- and I'm stuck like everyone else, I'm here to learn to get the most out of this BAD $oftware.

I no longer have any desire to use my new computer since it won't run anything I need it to. The kids use it and just run the bundled stuff.

Different Blue Screens:Look Like Blue Screen Appears When To Much Action Is Going On Like Opening Of IE And Outlook

Feb 13, 2009

Problem Blue Screen. No new hardware or software installed recently, last Windows vista update was on 01/15. When I start first, PC passes user registration (boots fine) and
does the normal stuff like loading software and starting the wireless internet connection via Netgear, opening some windows/programms I will close. All normal, but than comes a Blue Screen and very fast shut down of system with restart. Hardly can read the message...Look like Blue Screen appears when to much action is going on like opening of IE and Outlook... or open to many windows... or some bad programm/hardware is booting. But when I restart, restart gives a different blue screens and trouble is much earlier or directly after registering to the system.

But all starting or booting turn slower, real slow now. Start in --safe mode with net working-- the PC works, but the PC can't handle heavy workloads, is really slow in action. I cannot open --My pictures-- to see all picture files displyed on screen (2.7 GB) (the process trying to access the files in safe mode is real slow) and when I attempt to transfer the file to a USB stick, the computer is stopping in middle of action (after 50% transfer)..........
