I have Vista 64 Ultimate & Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe board.I have tring to hook up a HP 4000n printer with a parallel port. It just won't work. I have tried everything including downloading 64 bit drivers, changing the parallel port settings in the bios, etc. I suspect it has something to do with the port because the printer does not respond at all to anything I do.

However when installed vista drivers one of the ports has been chosen as digital output (optical) and another as digital input (coax) (i can see that when i hover the mouse over the jacks in "Realtek HD audio manager") Is there any way to make the coaxial port as an output port instead of optical? My my HT reciver has no free optical ports so i have to use coax to get some sound from the computer.

I checked SYNA and they stated support for only SPP mode but don't know where to change to SPP mode. Also, is there a special driver to change theinterface from Parallel to USB? I also tried using the installed Manhattan Parallel Port card but the result is always the same - data is loaded into the printer and then disappears without printing and no errors.

I also have a parallel to serial cable, male parallel at one end and a female serial at the other end. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Son's computer was working yesterday and this morning he can't surf using IE 8 or Firefox. It appears Port 80 is being blocked. I have disabled the firewall temporarily and this did not resolve the issue. I did the "netsh winsock reset" and this did not fix the problem. I have reset my router with no change. I am able to ping the DNS, the Default router and his IP address within the command window. I can also ping yahoo.com, google.com within the command window, but can't reach them with either browser. He did not have System Restore enabled, so I can't use that as a solution. Can the group recommend some options for me to try? He is using Vista Home Premium, and a wireless card. I can also see ALL GREEN when I open up the Network Sharing tool. There is a green line between his IP and the Wireless Card and green line between the Wireless Card and the Internet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedPretty strange that I couldn't find one google result about WHERE a USB 2.0 port is, everything is "how do I know I have USB 2.0" and not actually where they are on the computer. Some may say well, just plug in a USB 2.0 usb and see what happens.
However my USB Drive has ALWAYS been saying I'm plugging it in in a port that does not support USB 2.0. I've done this at my college and the same bs occurs. This does not occur for any of my USB drives, not even my 16G one. Should also mention that whenever I try to access the USB drive, it says "Drive E not formatted, would you like to format it now?" Obviously I click no. This by the way has nothing to do with my recent virus issues. This particular USB drive has been like this for years now.-

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am curious about the change to port 587. After upgrading to Vista SP1, using Windows Mail, I had the same problem as a few on this board, but only with my roadrunner service. I could receive mails. However, I could send e-mails that were very short (read one or two lines), but anything of any length and I got the usual message of server connection unexpectly closed. I turned off my antivirus program completely and still got the message and could not send e-mails of any basic length. However, I did try the suggestion in a previous thread of changing the smtp port to 587 (even though it appeared to be a comcast network) and, so far, it appears to solve my problem with roadrunner (knock on wood).

The reason I ask is that I have five USB ports, four at the back and one at the front. As the one at the front is more accessible, I use this for a Joystick I occasionally use. Can I also use this same port for another device, in this case an MP3 player, not at same time?

View 8 Replies View Related(running Vista Home Premium) I seem to have lost my COM1 port (and all other COM / LPT ports with it). I use Palm T5 and need the COM1 port for synching this device. The Palm cradle is plugged into a USB connection straight into the computer (not the USB hub ports). But I get the error "The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time. Hotsynch manager will open the port when it become available."
I dont have any modems etc running, and when I look in Device manager, there is no line like "Communication ports", COM and Printer ports or something like it. Curiously, I have my old HP Laser jet 4 running smoothly - so there must be some printer port somewhere.
I login remotely to 3 servers, and if I choose 5 clients. I have full administrator rights. Suddenly, I am not able to remote into Client 01( Windows Vista). Our MS Pro says someone or something has blocked or locked :3389 and he does not know how to either rebuild it or fix it. The client, is a fairly new Dual Core Vista Machine and I was logging into it just fine, until...A major Software program was installed, and certain permissions were accessed (I do not know which ones). Then it blocked me. It is locked or blocked. We can't seem to find the one thing we need to get it back. The permissions pertained to multiple users ,using the same program on our application Server. No one, including the MS Pro would have purposely shut that port down. What I am looking at from my out of town side is: A BRICK. It Says: Connectiveity to the Remote Computer could not be established. Ensure that the remote computer is on and connected to the Small Business Server network.

i came across this Internet video Internet - port forwarding on the dg834g and did everything it said once id completed the steps i went too canyouseeme.org too test my port and it was closed.

reason: connection timed out that is what canyouseeme.org told me.
id also like too add i think my problem may lie with my laptop not being directly connected too the router, would this change any steps in the Internet video above?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new 4-port USB hub after my old one had stopped working for some reason, and I can't plug in more than 1 device at a time. My old one also had 4 ports and I could use my 2GB USB drive and my wireless mouse at the same time without any problems. With my new hub, If I have my mouse plugged in and then plug in my USB drive, my mouse stops working (as if I have pulled the receiver out - the 'safely remove hardware icon disappears) and my USB doesn't even connect. Then If I remove either one, the other one which is still plugged in will connect again.
I've also had the same problem if I try any combination with my external hard drive. My external HD has its own power source and has the same problem. I can't say though, whether my old hub worked with either my mouse or USB stick, because I didn't have an external back then.
I've tried opening Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) and looking around in the USB section for the power being supplied to the ports, but it only shows 98 mA for my mouse. And what I don't understand is, even when I run this program without the hub plugged in, it'll show 5 listings for 'USB Root Hub'. Now my laptop has 4 usb ports and an integrated webcam, and the options for the 5th listing says my camera's name along with 500 mA, even though I'm not even using it. And when I plug the hub in, it doesn't show any new entries, and the properties for my mouse show up under the previous 'USB Root Hub' entries.
Does this have to do with my hub not being able to support more than 1 device at a time, or is this a power supply problem? (power supply as in the power that's being supplied to my USB ports, not PSU). And if I haven't mentioned already, both my old and new hubs do not have an external power source, the just have a USB connection.
