It sat there for about an hour, then I restrated, tried Safe mode, Last known good configurations and nothing... Now I'm trying to use Repair mode...
View 4 RepliesI tried to install SP1 on Ultimate 32bit and it seemed to work -- got to configuring 3 of 3 100% then it said it failed and it proceeded to "revert changes". After this I re-booted and the Desktop came up, but because I had to disable all startup items and Microsoft services before I tried to install, I wanted to restore all this, so I clicked "Normal startup" in MSCONFIG. I re-booted and now Vista won't boot. The screen is dark for a couple seconds and the system re-boots to the BIOS screen. I have tried to use the Recovery DVD (which is OEM), and issue the "repair option" but it doesn't recognize Vista even after I load the drivers for the hard disk, hopwever, when I go to the command prompt, I can see the windows directory and issuing a "bootrec /scanos" returns c:windows. About the only option that will work on the repair menu is "repair". I have not tried this yet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista Home Premium (64bit version) with Service Pack 1 & have admin rights. I have all the latest drivers (especially for my video card) installed.... I don't want ANY Vista effects AT ALL and have tried for the last couple of days to disable them... all efforts have failed.
A) System Properties --> Advanced (Tab) --> Settings.. (under Performance): I have deselected ALL the checkboxes in BOTH my admin account and also in my non-admin account (using elevated status)... the effects still come back!
B) Personalize appearance and sounds --> Window Color and Appearance : I have purposely NOT chosen any Aero scheme.. I've even tried the bare bones Windows Classic scheme.. still the effects come back... I've even tried changing EVERY single user on the system to a real basic scheme... the effects still come back! In the color scheme selection, under the "effects" button, I have deselected ALL effects!.. but still the effects come back!
C) I have tried "adjust for best appearance" & then "adjust for best performance" (with the intention of resetting the settings!).. the effects still come back! (initially at least they disappear, but as soon as I log out & log back in, or reboot, etc. they come back!) What is interesting is that in my admin account, I don't get any effects (yay!), so the settings DO stick in that account... but I don't want to run my day to day affairs using my admin account and my non-admin account (as well as every single other user on the system) has the bloody effects enabled!!
My vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... Once again Go figure!! Running Vista Business 32bit here in the good old USA and of course the English versionVista is and has always been updated right on schedule....
View 9 Replies View Relatedlet me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?

Now 5 months later is states that I need to validate. I guess whatever was running on my system was temporary. Do i need to roll back to the driver Nvidia 180.84, bare in mind i have had hardly any probs with the game since installing the latest drivers form Nvidia(part form some lag and chopines - but will be overclocking my quad form 2.5 to 3.0.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just received my HP Pavillion with Vista Home Premium and I was checking the system to see if everything was installed as I requested. I'm confused about the RAM. In System Properties, the Memory (RAM)3071 MB, but I ordered 4 GB. Why is only 3 GB listed in the stats? When I questioned tech support, they said that the proper way to check total amount of RAM would be when you start up the computer and tap F(10) for "set-up". When I did that, it showed 4 GB. Tech support said that when you look up the RAM on the OS, you dont get the total amount installed b/c some is being used. Is this correct? I've had horrible experiences with HP tech support so I'm a little sceptical.

I have 2 GB DDR 667 and one mal-partitioned SATA drive. The Vista portion has 167 GB.
Today, it took aver three hours to copy merely 329 MB of data onto the other partition using my HP 940i DVD writer. the program was not even half done, BTW I got several gray-out screens in the process. I could not do any other work because the darn machine hung.

I need to specify which language vista is installed inn or it won't work, i figured it would be norwegian (as i am from norway), but allmost all the menus are in english as well as everything in the start menu ("Computer" instead of "Datamaskin" etc...).
I was wondering if there is an easy way to figure out which language the OS is installed in.
Im not sure if I should put this under update probelms or what, but Im highly confused. I downloaded the Malicious Software Removal Tool, thru Windows Update. (Not a pop up online) After it was done with the update, it restarted my computer, and when it was done, I discovered that it had UN INTSALLED the speakers. The new software hadnt even run yet, so I doubt it had anything to do with that. When I click on the volume icon on my task bar, it says that there is "No Audio Output Device Installed"

I got a drivers cd from my sellsman. When i load i got a lot of drivers to choose. I select "VIDEO" - producer "NVIDA". I download it, and run. It pops-up "Proceed" so yes. I plan on running vmware with x86 xp pro platform to confirm that it cannot be installed on 64-bit. Although, every recent game seems to run fine under vista ultimate x64.. and considering fallout3 is very new, you think it would work aok =/

I don't have an internet connection and have been going to friend to download things I need. Then I transfer them on a memory stick and install them. I downloaded the three updates, but then found out that there is a problem on some computers with KB937287, which causes the computer to endlessly reboot. Then it was withdrawn from the MS site. So now I am not sure whether to install any of these or not. Then I posted this question on various forums. One said that I don't need the three critical updates if I am installing the standalone version on SP1 because they are included in that version. Another one said I can't update Vista at all if I don't have my own internet connection. I am not sure what to do

I installed Vista 64bit SP1 on this ammount of RAM, installation was extremly slow, but succesfull. Booting of system and whole work is also very slow. I found solution, that I should remove 2 GB, apply KB929777 fix and then return the ram back to 4 gigs. Its not working - when installing the patch, I receive error "This update does not apply to your system". This update is not already installed. I tried install in SAVE mode - not working. I tried to switch the RAM sticks - not helping. System is supporting 4 gigs. Is there anything else what I can try? I am thinking about to flash new (or old) BIOS, but is there anything else?

After I put the CD in my computer shows me that the software of my mp3 player cannot be installed. I tried my host's computer which is windows XP and it worked fine. View 6 Replies View RelatedSo I installed WI7 RC, I'm not going to mention which build I use it's Ultimate. That much I'll say. Runs all 8 GIGs of my Uber RAM Well I like it. It's not expensive, and you need to know your BIOS well to get Optimal Performance with it, but if you do, and I do. It ROX. Fast as all get out. So I'm just checking it out have it pre-ordered. Waiting on Oct is all. But, then, lets get down to what I wanted to get at, Vista vs WIN7 RC. Which is real close to what the final release will be. So having said that I conclude that I love Vista still, but think I'll LOVE Win7 just as much,. However that doesn't mean that I like everything they did (they= MS Geeks). I don't care for how the wallpaper is hadled in Win7, it involves more steps to just do save a Wallpaper and W7 always wants to call everything a Theme. I don't like Themes, changing background auto pilot yada, yada. I like just what I like, I don't use any stock THEMES at all, and will delete them all. I make a ton of my own wallpapers, and this is FUN for this Monster. For example I made a few Stubbs Walls that I love and use a lot. As I like BRAINS!! Must have BRAINS!! Yum, Yum, BRAINS!!
