Windows Mail With Prt Screen Button
May 10, 2008
I am trying to send a copy of the screen that I am currently looking at in an email. What I do is I hit my prt screen button then try to paste it in my email, but it never works. I know this works with XP, because I have XP at work and I do it all the time.

Vista, Home Premium, Windows Mail all of a sudden the button to Save Attachments under the Paperclip is greyed out for images such as .jpg I can see the image numbers/names listed but all in grey. I can still save them by rightclicking them in the preview pane but for a mail containing many pics that is rather cumbersome. For other attachment such as movies, powerpoints etc. the Save Button is NOT greyed out and works fine for quick saving...

I suffer from Microsoft's sick joke where a blue screen is thrown over all my emails in Windows Mail. I noticed at least one solution where anti-virus could be disabled but I did not think that was practical. I found that if I run it as an administrator I never get the blue screen. However, I can only run as administrator by right clicking and selecting that option from the menu that comes up. Is there a string that can be added to the target for the shortcut which will automatically launch windows mail in the administrator mode?

Are you a frequent user of Windows Mail? Would you like to shave a second off of load time and remove that annoying splash screen? Using a quick reg hack, you can easily remove the splash screen.
Click on the start button and type in regedit and hit Enter....

I changed my screen resolution in order to better view a video. When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.

I know this is a Vista forum, but I do not see any Windows 7 forums. This has carried through a number of recent builds of Win7 and now is in the RC, 7100 build. Not sure if this is a change in functionality or a bug. If you want to copy the profile of a local user, you can login to the PC (Vista and earlier) as the local Administrator, go to System Properties > User Profiles, choose a user's profile, then click the Copy To button to copy that profile to another profile. In Win7, the Copy To button is grayed out when you choose another user's profile. All you can choose from is Change Type or Delete.

Contact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment.
However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the "E-mail" button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back. It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while.

1. When opening a message from the message list, the new window opens in "non full screen" mode. I have to then click on the maximize button. How do I default to full screen for new windows in general?
2. When I open a message and then hit the delete button, it takes me automatically to the next message, I want it to go back to the message list. I know in outlook where you can set these settings but can't find it with Windows mail.

I am using Vista Ultimate 32-bit and I want to add a 'new folder' button to the button bar in my folder view. I do a LOT of file relocation and I make new folders constantly and want a one-click solution. I searched the forums first but found no solution. Thank you in advance for the help. I am NOT looking for a right-click option or a menu add-on. I just want a button.

I've had a problem for a while now. Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

Can't Windows Mail autofill e-mail addresses from Windows Contacts into the "To: "line? Opening Windows Contacts searching for an address and moving an address across seems awkward. It seems that you should start trying the address and it should autofil.

i also tried to change my default email to windows live, it doesn't work, comes up w/ some weird kind of mail that doesn't send messages (not sure if it's trying to use windows mail even tho it's set to windows live mail, or what). so, i'm trying to set up my windows live account (which is new, just set it up a couple of months ago), through windows mail. tried setting to pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com and when it goes to connect i keep getting this error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.live.com', Server: 'pop3.live.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:
10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
i really want my default e-mail server to be set up to something that works. and i do not want to go back to using my yahoo account.

How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.

Now that I am operating out of Windows Mail, is there something that notifies me that I have mail, like........... an envelope turning in the corner of my screen that states "You've got Mail", or some sound that alerts me on the screen that I have incoming mail?

What, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:
(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

My Toshiba Labtop has crashed.I think a shared file was deleted. Labtop was operating under Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit.It happened right after uninstalling Java; because the dang updates kept popping up and it was getting annoying. Now whenever i start it, it comes to a black screen and a minute later a cursor pops up. Safe mode does not work.I have tried the recovery disk, but to no avail.I know im doing right because i purchased some Boots Disks off ebay and they come right up (PC wizard; Pc doctor). So i bought Windows Vista Ultimate and tried to install and i cant get to install thru boot.I ither need to know how to install windows thru boot, but id much rather just fix current windows.
