View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a program trying to flash on my screen. It is every 12-15 seconds apart and only flashes for a half second. I have tried to click on it. I have disconnected from the internet as I thought maybe someone was trying to access my computer. Still does it. I ran3 different spyware and antivirus programs. Plus, I ran rkill (all 4 types). I still have the problem.
If I am typing while it flashes, it erases my typing. I have defragged, debugged in addition to running spyware and antivirus programs. After doing each one of them, I have restarted my computer. Still get that flash. It is driving me bonkers.
when i try to send email, a quick flash appears on the screen (like the action occurred successfully, very fast), but the message just goes to the outbox and is never sent, even upon prompt at program termination. i have checked all program and account settings, and everything is ok (especially the send messages immediately checkbox). i entered a secondary unrelated email address with different, known server addresses but the same thing occurred. i downloaded mozilla thunderbird and entered the primary email information and i could send messages with no problem. switching email programs permanately really is not a viable option at this point. this is not a server address problem, and the primary email does not require authentication.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to re-boot or shutdown.. I get a very fast screen flash that states that my explorer.exe is still running then it shuts down and restarts like normal. I don't remember seeing it before the last few weeks... it is very fast and doesn't allow me the chance to do anything but notice it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedEvery time I get one of those UAC prompts asking me to authorize an administrative action my LCD screen flashes when the box pops up. This is caused by the switch to the secure desktop, similar to what happens when you hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE. The only difference is that the background is a snapshot of your desktop that gives it the effect that it is just a pop up window. Although if you look carefully you will notice it is static since the clock does not change and anything else that was animated is now static. The secure desktop provides an extra level of security to UAC by making it immune to any application that may try to automate the click on the allow button bypassing the purpose of UAC.
This sounds like a great thing but it is really annoying to me. I hate that screen flicker. Rather than disable UAC, there is a better alternative. Instead, I can just disable the secure desktop switch that causes the flicker. I know this is not as secure but it is better than disabling UAC completely.
Follow the steps below to disable UAC secure desktop: ...
I'm trying to help a friend with Windows Vista copy her e-mail storage to a flash drive for backup. I found the location of the storage folder (which is not easy, it's listed under Tools, Options, Advanced). I tried copying the "Local Folders" folder, which is the master folder for all the e-mails, to the flash drive. It began prompting at each e-mail (all 11,000 of them), saying "if you copy this, it will be without the file properties. Proceed?" Copying all the e-mails without their file properties didn't sound like a good idea, so I stopped.
Then I thought of exporting the e-mails instead of copying them. I selected Local Folders in the e-mail program, File, Export, browse for destination. But the Save As dialog that opens only opened to a subfolder of her named personal folder, not to Computer. It was impossible to navigate the Save As dialog to Computer and thence to the flash drive. What kind of Save As dialog opens to a subfolder and refuses to let you navigate up the hierarchy to where you want to get to?
I am trying to send a copy of the screen that I am currently looking at in an email. What I do is I hit my prt screen button then try to paste it in my email, but it never works. I know this works with XP, because I have XP at work and I do it all the time.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI suffer from Microsoft's sick joke where a blue screen is thrown over all my emails in Windows Mail. I noticed at least one solution where anti-virus could be disabled but I did not think that was practical. I found that if I run it as an administrator I never get the blue screen. However, I can only run as administrator by right clicking and selecting that option from the menu that comes up. Is there a string that can be added to the target for the shortcut which will automatically launch windows mail in the administrator mode?

Are you a frequent user of Windows Mail? Would you like to shave a second off of load time and remove that annoying splash screen? Using a quick reg hack, you can easily remove the splash screen.
Click on the start button and type in regedit and hit Enter....
I was surfing the net with my girlfriend the other night... playing bingo to be precise, (we are soo rock n roll!) and my computer just turned off.. not instantly like a powercut, but alot quicker than normal shutdown. I turned it back on and was given the options to start in safe mode, safemode with command prompt etc. Well, every option I chose lead to windows starting to load but then a very quick blue screen "flash" ....then it would restart from the beginning again.
I then dug out my vista cd, and told my bios to boot from cd, I would then get a message saying windows is loading files and as soon as the bar flled up the blue screen came back, but this time it stays on the screen. So just to recap, i can't start windows in safe mode, command prompt, or normally, and i can't use my recovery cd. The blue screen i get is: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
*** STOP: 0X00000050 (0X86300000, 0X00000000, 0X88883843, 0X00000000)
I changed my screen resolution in order to better view a video. When I changed it back, the Send/Receive window that shows incoming and outgoing mail popped up far to the left of the Windows Mail window, instead of right above it where it has always been. I re-started the computer, but that did not fix the problem. I want to get the Send/Receive window to pop up where it used to--it is currently nconvenient for viewing.

When I inserted the Flash Drive in the USB port Windows asked me to install the driver for the device. There was no software included with the Flash Drive. I checked the box requesting Windows to look for a driver through the Windows Update feature. It came back and said no driver could be found for this device. I then went to the manufacturer's website but they don't have a driver listed for this particular Flash Drive. I called Dell and all they could tell me is that Windows should have recognized the device automatically. how I can get Windows to recognize this device. My brother has the same identical computer and Flash Drive and his installed without a problem

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've had a problem for a while now. Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:
(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.
