Even after shutting-down the PC, Start - Shut-down, a green light in the middle of the PC is still on, although the PC has been shut-down completely. I need to turn-off its light by pulling off power-cable connected with the PC. Does this indicate 'malfunction' light inside the PC?
View 6 Repliesi dont have a shut down button in the start menu, the only option i have is to log off, or lock my computer, however in the other user accounts on my computer i do have a shut down button next to the lock button.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAbout 40% of the time when I either choose HIBERNATE or the standard SHUT DOWN, the computer just keeps on running. Although it seems WINDOW has shut down, the "ON" light is still on and I can hear the fan running. When this happens I am left with no other option but to use the "emergency shut down" method - pressing the ON button for more than 4 seconds (ASUS laptop, using Vista Home Premium). Presumably this method would damage the computer in some ways in the long run?
I assume WINDOW is shut down because the next time when I turn on the computer it doesn't say the "WINDOW is not properly shut down". So can any kind souls please help me with this annoying problem of turning off the computer completely?

large and the apply button can't be seen. The bottom of screen can't be

How do I make the screen smaller so the apply button will be exposed?
Acer tech support said do a factory restore and the Vista Forum tutorial instructions didn't fix it.
BTW, I have Vista Home Premium X32, if that makes any difference.
I did install the "Vista Start Menu" freeware and it works, but I want the
original Vista Start button back, I got used to it.
I have a problem with the arrow next to the lock button. Half of it is missing. The only thing i have found was a reg hack to remove the lock button to allow more room for the arrow. The reg change did not work and messed up my mouse and keyboard along with no sound from media player. A system restore fixed everything. Has anyone had this problem with the arrow? See attachment.

View 7 Replies View RelatedEvery now and again, a strange thing happenes to my start bar. It completely freezes, and I can't click anything on there apart from the start button. I can't select any tabs, or use the system tray. If that doesn't happen, sometimes the Start button decides to freeze instead. Basically it goes dark (like it does when it has been pressed) and then it stays like that and it won't let me open it.

For instance if I minimize web page 1, I will get a button. but when I go to web page 2 and minimize it the button replaces the button for web page 1. The buttons are not stacked. Shouldn't I get a task bar button for each web page that is minimized so that I can retrieve particular pages as desired? The taskbar button feature seems to work when opening multiple programs as described in Vista Support, but it does not seem to function with multiple windows.

I have to push the reset button in the middle of the shuting down process in order to get the computer to respond. This results in black screen and Advanced Startup Options. Opting for Normal Mode will start up Vista ok, but it is really annoying to have to go via Advanced Options every time I am going to boot up.

This only puts the pc in sleep mode. I know that if you click on the arrow to the right, that there is the option to shut down. My question is this: Can i change the off button that is on the menu, to actally shut down the pc?? Is there an option to do that.

I think what I did is change the theme to classic, and then back to vista, and it gave me this rounded box as a close button. I was just wondering if there was any way to put it back the way it was. that after the disappearance of the windows interface, the computer would
still be on and I would have to shut down by pressing the power switch for a
few seconds.
When I do not prerss this switch, windows restarts after about ten minutes;
after I receive a brief report (which I never manage to read in full)
informing me that a software may not have been properly installed or that I
need a windows update.
This problem appeared long after I installed all the software that I use,
and I have checked whether I'm fully updated (I am).
Is there a way in which I can ensure this problem does not occur when I go
through the normal shut down procedures?
Not sure if this is a hardware problem or a Vista problem. I am however leaning toward ahrdware because this can happen sometimes during post.

I'll go to start, click "Shut Down" and Windows will close everything running like usual and go to that screen where it says "Windows is shutting down." Well, last night, instead of just forcing a power-down, I decided to see if it would shut down or not if left alone for a while, so I left it at that screen, and went to bed. I woke up in the morning and Windows was still at that point, and the circle was still spinning, which means the system hadn't frozen. Also, the num lock button still worked. I'm guessing something has Windows going for a loop when closing down processes.

When I ask the comuter to shut down, the shut down screen with the spinning circle stays on maybe 20 minutes, then automatically restarts. My message seems lengthy, but I have tried to include as much info as I can right from the beginning. I want a button on my desktop to shut down the laptop.
I have an Italian version of windows vista, and so the keyboard and language settings are naturally in Italian. But for a particular music notation software I've just bought, I need to change my keyboard temporarily to English (U.S.).
English is installed by default as a second language on my pc, but for some reason there is no keyboard layout button on the task bar. How can I get the button to appear? (I have already followed the advice given on the Microsoft site, to no avail).
I just bought 2x "1GB PC2 4200 4300 DDR2 533MHZ 240 PIN 1 BG CL 4.0" ram sticks for my dell inspiron 530 and they wont ork. I installed them right and the slots all lined up right so i know they fit. but when i go to start it up, instead of beeping once after about 5 seconds after i hit the power button on, it takes about 2 seconds, the it goes beep beep and nothing comes up on the screen. I am very good with the software part of computers but the hardware i am litterally dumb as $h!t with.
