I want to know if I install Windows 7 RC then do Windows Mail works fine on that operating system? Also do I have to download and install Windows mail manually or it is included?
View 9 RepliesI have two pc's that both run Windows Mail. They have identical setups and use the same email account. The desktop works properly but the Toshiba laptop cannot send emails. Both pc's run McAfee Antivirus. I have tried disabling the the antivirus on the laptop but am still unable to send mail. Problem started when we downloaded Vista updates on 06/13/08.

I have Vista Home Premium 32bit. Never had a problem Last week I attached a Bamboo Fun pen tablet (which is great) I also have a Seagate 750g external hardrive. Normally when pc wakes after sleep everything comes to life and the Seagate works fine BUT not since attaching Bamboo How do I sort this out please? I know it's the Bamboo because I have tried with it unplugged.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a fairly new desktop (8 months old) with windows xp. On another partition I installed Vista Business, then updated the chipset drivers for my system. The network adapter was not picked up so I installed it manually with the updated drivers from the manufacturer (integrated adapter) which seemed to work (it made a connection) but when I re-booted there was no network connection and the light on the card is not longer on. In the device manager it says the card is working properly. I tried reinstalling the adapter driver but to no avail. My network/internet connection works fine in XP. I'm suspecting it may be some sort of security issue or possibly something with the drivers although I contacted the manufacturer of the machine (Systemax) and they said they've had no reported problems with the drivers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have enabled file sharing on my home network so that my wife's XP machine can access photos and music stored on my Vista Home Premium box. Also share printers. I have set up non-password protected sharing, and it works fine overall - I can see everything she shares, and vice versa, printers work, etc. The only problem we're having is the photos. Whenever I add new photos they don't show up until I re-share the folder. If I put new photos in a sub-folder, the sub-folder is visible and can be opened without errors, but it appears empty until I re-share the entire photo folder. I cannot find any information about this problem, but it just occurred to me that I gave the guest account read-only access to the photo folder instead of full permissions. I guess that's one thing to try when I get home, but I would like to keep it read-only so that nothing happens to the pictures accidentally.

Now when I try to do this I get the message -"Windows Mail has stopped working" or "Last time you ran Windows Mail it did not exit correctly." This cut and paste function has always worked until now. View 9 Replies View Relatedhow I can get a .wps file (MS Works) to open directly in Windows Mail? I have the file association configured and everything works perfectly if I first save the attachment to a folder then double-click it, but it is annoying to have to do this.
A friend had the same problem with .pps files (Power Point) which would not open directly in Windows Mail even though she had the Power Point Viewer installed and a proper file association. There was a a registry edit on the Microsoft site that fixed that nicely and I am hoping that someone knows of something similar for .wps files.
Running Vista on an HP...When I get the pop up to compact the mail I click OK and it gets about 3 quarters of the way thru and I get the message Windows Mail has stopped working and Windows is searching for an answer. The answer was DEP (Data Execution Protection)was shutting it down to protect my computer..What's the problem??? Norton internet Security up to date and nothing found with complete system scan..Vista up to date as well.

I have two symptoms of the worm - Windows Update no longer works (when I load it goes to a blank windows explorer screen, which I have force quit through Task Manager), and Windows Defender no longer works. I have used multiple Conficker removal tools (BD, F Smart, MS Removal) and none of these have found anything wrong. Any ideas if this is Conficker adapting or if its something else?

Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat, if any, inferences can be drawn from the fact that there are typically three times more posts about Windows Mail (WM) than Windows Live Mail (WLM). Could it be that:
(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you have installed Windows Mail on a Windows 7 computer,yesterday's update contains a KB978542 patch which changes msoe.dll so it won't run on Windows 7. I had warned about these types of issues when Win7 was first released. Microsoft claims it was done for security=20 reasons, see To get it working again, replace the new non-working copy of msoe.dll in Windows 7 with a copy of the new patched version of msoe.dll from a Vista machine.=20
Note: I ran into permissions issues when trying to delete the = non-working msoe.dll, so rather than fighting that, I renamed the Win7 Windows Mail directory to "Windows Mail-X", then I copied and pasted the Windows Mail directory from the Vista machine. I suspect that Windows Mail will = become less and less compatible with Win7 as time goes along.=20

About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just upgraded to a new pc with vista and windows mail from Xp & outlook express (with virgin). To save my files and emails etc I used windows easy transfer software and copied the files to an external hard drive and then loaded it to the new PC. I initially had problems as my modem didn't install but virgin sent me a wireless connector and all seemed OK. However, when I click on send/receive mail I get an error message 'some errors occured while processing the requsted tasks - please see details below.' But there are no details! I have 3 email addresses.
If I click on the little arrow next to send/rec and then click on each email separately there is no problem. Equally, if I click on 'receive all' there is no problem. When I click on send/rec the first time I open windows mail there is no problem, but thereafter always the error message. I've had Virgin remotely controlling the pc for 90 minutes and they can't suss it!
Also, bizarrely at the top of the page it says inbox - outlook express provided by virgin net even though I appear to be running windows mail (it certainly isn't the usual outlook I have on my old pc). Did I inadvertently load outlook as well as my emails on top of windows mail and they've kind of merged?
How do I remove Windows Vista, so that I can make a clean install of Windows 7. Does the removal of Windows Vista also removes Windows Mail and IT8? Do I have anything (Antivirus or other software) at all left on the PC after removal of the Windows?
