I have Vista Home Premium 32bit. Never had a problem Last week I attached a Bamboo Fun pen tablet (which is great) I also have a Seagate 750g external hardrive. Normally when pc wakes after sleep everything comes to life and the Seagate works fine BUT not since attaching Bamboo How do I sort this out please? I know it's the Bamboo because I have tried with it unplugged.
View 7 RepliesI have two pc's that both run Windows Mail. They have identical setups and use the same email account. The desktop works properly but the Toshiba laptop cannot send emails. Both pc's run McAfee Antivirus. I have tried disabling the the antivirus on the laptop but am still unable to send mail. Problem started when we downloaded Vista updates on 06/13/08.

I have a fairly new desktop (8 months old) with windows xp. On another partition I installed Vista Business, then updated the chipset drivers for my system. The network adapter was not picked up so I installed it manually with the updated drivers from the manufacturer (integrated adapter) which seemed to work (it made a connection) but when I re-booted there was no network connection and the light on the card is not longer on. In the device manager it says the card is working properly. I tried reinstalling the adapter driver but to no avail. My network/internet connection works fine in XP. I'm suspecting it may be some sort of security issue or possibly something with the drivers although I contacted the manufacturer of the machine (Systemax) and they said they've had no reported problems with the drivers.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have enabled file sharing on my home network so that my wife's XP machine can access photos and music stored on my Vista Home Premium box. Also share printers. I have set up non-password protected sharing, and it works fine overall - I can see everything she shares, and vice versa, printers work, etc. The only problem we're having is the photos. Whenever I add new photos they don't show up until I re-share the folder. If I put new photos in a sub-folder, the sub-folder is visible and can be opened without errors, but it appears empty until I re-share the entire photo folder. I cannot find any information about this problem, but it just occurred to me that I gave the guest account read-only access to the photo folder instead of full permissions. I guess that's one thing to try when I get home, but I would like to keep it read-only so that nothing happens to the pictures accidentally.

sort-of-operating XP network. I have named the network correctly, and
entered the proper workgroup name, and now when I show the Network, the Vista
machine shows itself and the router. The problem is, the router is NOT the
Internet gateway; my old XP laptop is, and neither the old laptop nor the
desktop which have IP addresses below that of the router appear in the
Network display, and I cannot access the Internet because the Vista machine
can't see the gateway, even when I force the proper IP addresses into the
appropriate locations in the Vista machine. I also can't use the printers
which are on the system.
I insert pictures, not attach them, in mails. When I look at the message the pictures are in the body of my e-mail, but when recipients open the mail there is a red cross in a white square instead of the picture and the picture is attached. There is a difference in the html code when I compare the one in the mail I send and the one from the received mail, Windows Mail "corrects" or "inserts" things in the code the moment I send it (that's what I can understand).
View 9 Replies View Relatedi am trying to connect two old seagate ide 80 gb hard drives ( barracuda 7200.7 and ST380020A ) to my dell inspiron 1300 laptop with windows vista home premium. i am using an ide to usb cable. first thing that happens when i connect either is that 'safely remove hardware' icon pops up in the system tray and then disappears after a few seconds. i managed to double-click it a few times before it disappears and go into the properties of the 'USB Mass Storage device' and at first it says this device is working properly, then the mouse pointer turns into an hour sign and the following msg replaces that : Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45) To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
it then disappears also from the Safely Remove Hardware popup box all together. the drives do not appear in my computer, device manager or computer management. i have rebooted many times, tried all the different jumper settings, and even deleted the INFCACHE1.inf file as mentioned in one of the newsgroups fixes i found after hours of googling. still i cannot seem to access the drives at all.
Brand new Freeagent USB 1TB drive for Windows Home Premium on an ACER desktop. After installing the Seagate Manager software, it tells me that I need a 32-bit OS and will not install. The result is that there is a letter assigned to the drive but no hard drive icon. And the drive just stops working after a while. Unplugging it and plugging it back in makes it work again. Then my files vanish and it dies again. And so forth.
In post after post on this forum and others I've seen about this issue, everyone seems to offer a lot of assurances that external drives will work automatically on 64-bit. But they don't. From the Seagate website in the downloads section:

I have a Vista Ultimate 64 bit system using an ASUS striker II formula MB, Intel core 2 quad 2.66 mh CPU, 8 GB RAM. It was setup with 2 320 GB Seagate drives and a 500 GB Seagate drive in a RAID. A week and a half ago when shutting down the system, I got the install updates message. I clicked OK. Upon return, I found the system still running showing the BIOS screen. After reboot, I had a no operating system error. Using the Vista DVD to attempt repair, yielded a corrupt partition error. I attempted to reinstall Vista on one 320 GB drive. This gave a disk boot failure. After trying this and that, I ran chkdsk during boot which fixed the error. I want to recover my data. To facilitate recovery, I purchased 2 1.5 GB Seagate drives. I have attempted to format the drives using computer management and safe mode with command prompt. The drives will get to 73% format but no farther.

Based on the information posted in the company's forums here, select Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB 3.5-inch hard drives made in Thailand, suffer from a firmware issue that bricks the HDDs after a short period of time. After three to five months of normal operation these defective hard drives will suddenly lock-up as a protective measure and prevent the system from recognizing the drive from then onwards. In most cases the information won't be lost, but the drive will be completely useless, changing the drive's electronics won't help much either. This problem occurs not only to the 1TB Barracuda models, but to Seagate 1.5TB, 640GB, 500GB, 320GB and 160GB Barracuda 7200.11 drives, along with some Maxtor and ES.2 models. I am unable to get Vista to recognize drivers for my Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 in a non-RAID capacity. It's a SATA drive and I am of the understanding that these cause similar problems fairly frequently. In most cases about which I have read, the issue has been solved by choosing the "load driver" option during Vista installation and manually selecting a SATA driver from a driver disk of some form. Unfortunately, this course of action has not turned up any SATA driver on my motherboard's driver disk nor have I been able to find one at the manufacturer's (Gigabyte) website. I am currently waiting for a reply from Gigabyte customer care and am about to look up JMicron's (the SATA controller producer for Gigabyte) website, but I hoped someone here might have some insight into the problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedBought and installed WEB EASY 7. Ran fine no problems. Shut down system and when I started up later and executed WEB Easy it said that it could not fine the serial code. Put the serial code in again and it ran fine, until the next shutdown and restart. Worked about 6 weeks with WEB EASY (Avanquest) to resolve and they could not. Their final fix was to format the disc and install a clean Vista with all updates.
I have not problem with any other software that I have purchased. I have uninstalled and reinstalled WEB EASY from my account with Admin Priv as well as Installed with the "Hidden Administrator" logon. Avanquest has of course said it is Microsofts problem and hung up. Apparently when I do an initial install and enter the serial code as requested it puts it in the worng place or somewhere that later users, including the Administrator, does not have access to; or the prgrram itself
is locked out of.
I want to unistall IE from my machine ehich has Vista, I know that we can do that by going to unistalling updates, but I can't fine it there, is there any other way to unistall it.

have tried ticking/unticking boxes but no joy. Works fine from my webmail account. This set up was working for 8 months previously.

The issue is the screen goes nearly black, i.e. everything is still displayed but just really dark, as if the brightness on the monitor has been turned right down. However, the mouse cursor still appears bright white. It seems to occur pretty randomly. It has happened with both the default video drivers and the ATI beta drivers, and it has also occured both before and after the logon screen.

Just got a new Vista computer right out of the box and I can not get it to do anything with the network and none of the other computers can see it either. There are no fancy setups, just a small business network. There isnt even an internet connection we need to deal with. With Vista, all i can see is an "unidentified network" as being seen but it doesnt seem to do anything with it.

Im upgrading my computer of 5 years within the next 2 weeks. I decided to build a sick machine (Intel i7, DDR3, GTX 280 all the goodies.) With doing so, im going to put 64 bit vista on it. Now as far as my use of the computer, well its simple, gaming. Im usually stuck to the World of Warcraft, FPSs, and RTS. I have no idea what im getting into with vista. With what I'm using the computer for, how should I go about doing stuff on windows to prepare the computer. By this I mean, what drivers do I need, what other software should I install. View 9 Replies View RelatedSmall home wireless LAN, Netgear WGR614v4 router, Using WPA, two XP machines, one Vista (home Basic ),
1) all working ok for many hours, except when
2) Vista machine goes to sleep mode. On wakeup, no connection. Network SSID is visible, good signal, but repeated attempts to connect fail.
3) Other computers connect to router, and internet fine. They can also standby/poweroff and restart fine. Still connected.
4) Reboot Vista computer, no help. Network settings look normal, just no connection to wireless router. Incredibly irritating Vista diagnostic tool suggests I connect to a another network, or recycle the router. (If the router was close enough to be easily recycled, I would just plug in an ethernet cable. But it is not, and I am tired of unnecessary trips to the basement.)
5) Power cycle router, and everything fine again.
One new computer using Vista Home. Installed wireless network card and ran software. Found and established connection to wireless network in the office. Then....I setup the network to be secured, connected with a Win XP computer with no problems using the correct key. Did the same process with the Vista computer, found the network, asked for key, entered correct key and have limited connection. Reset everything on network. Switched back to unsecured and hooked right up. Disabled firewall, the only thing running is McAfee Total Protection, no firewalls.

Currently I have a network consisting of four computers connected through an internal switch on one of my computers in one of the bedrooms for ease of cabling. The computer with the broadband modem has been chosen as it is newest and is closest to the telephone line socket. It has two network cards, one connected to the modem and the other to the rest of the network. Independantly, the network connections are running fine (all computers can see each other and transfer data properly) and the internet connection is working well for the computer connected directly to the modem.
The network is setup using Static IP Addresses 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.4 (With 0.1 being for the host) and the modem is connected using a different set of IP addresses. I have also set the internet connection sharing options according to what is required on the microsoft website for both the internet host and clients. I have both Norton Antivirus and Zonealarm activated on all computers but have set them up to allow access to each other. My problem therefore is, despite my broadband connection working on the one computer, and my network connections working, I cannot get ICS to work.
