Connect To Network For Printer From Laptop
Mar 23, 2008I do an add printer on my wireless connected laptop. It finds the printer on my XP desktop but when I click OK it say it cannot connect, access denied. This works fine on my other desktop and I am stumped. The printer works fine directly connected to this VISTA laptop as does file sharing.

Feb 6, 2009My HP dv2500 laptop running Vista used to work fine connecting to my printer over the local network via an XP-based main PC, which has a Kodak Printer hooked to it. At some point in the last few months, the laptop stopped being able to connect. I think this was around the time of upgrading to SP1, but cannot be sure. In any case, I even went so far as to rebuild my main PC and do a clean install of Vista on that machine, I can print from the laptop if I connect the printer directly into the USB port on my laptop, but cannot access the printer via the network anymore
- Printer sharing is enabled on both the PC and the laptop
- When I go into control panel - add printer - select network printer, the network printer appears in the pop-up box.
- Once I select the printer and click next, I get the following error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to the network"........

sort-of-operating XP network. I have named the network correctly, and
entered the proper workgroup name, and now when I show the Network, the Vista
machine shows itself and the router. The problem is, the router is NOT the
Internet gateway; my old XP laptop is, and neither the old laptop nor the
desktop which have IP addresses below that of the router appear in the
Network display, and I cannot access the Internet because the Vista machine
can't see the gateway, even when I force the proper IP addresses into the
appropriate locations in the Vista machine. I also can't use the printers
which are on the system.
Windows Mail Is Not Attaching Pictures
May 15, 2010I insert pictures, not attach them, in mails. When I look at the message the pictures are in the body of my e-mail, but when recipients open the mail there is a red cross in a white square instead of the picture and the picture is attached. There is a difference in the html code when I compare the one in the mail I send and the one from the received mail, Windows Mail "corrects" or "inserts" things in the code the moment I send it (that's what I can understand).

Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).

I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.

Jun 17, 2008I cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?

Apr 10, 2009I just upgraded my XP home edition to Vista home premium with an upgrade disk provided by Dell. Before the upgrade I uninstalled my HP 2575 printer and software because it was listed as a compatibility issue. After upgrade I reinstalled new software from HP for my printer from the HP website. I plugged in the USB cable from my printer. Vista recognized the new device but would not put it in the printer folder in the control panel. Vista did find driver software online but could not install it. The HP solution center tells me no HP devices have been detected. When I try to print I get a message that I don’t have a printer hooked up. That’s the back ground here is what I have done.
I have updated Vista; most were successful some security ones failed. I have Service pack 1 I uninstalled and reinstalled HP software many times I started my spooler and reinstalled printer and software many times. I checked Task Manager and the hpqste08 services are running. I uninstalled virus protection and turned off the firewall. I have done everything I can find at HP, Microsoft and here. I tried to reload Vista but got a Worker Thread Returned at Bad IRQL error message so I stopped reload.
The one odd thing I did find was in the Device Manager. In the Device Manager the HP 2575 is listed twice. Once under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and once under Other Devices. When I click on the one under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and update driver software it finds the driver and says it’s up to date. When I do the same on the one under Other Devices, windows finds the software for this device but encountered an error when trying to install it. It does this when looking online and when looking in C: drive.The printer still does not show up in the printer folder in the control panel.
Desktop Printer Sharing: Won't Find Printer
Jun 10, 2008I have a Vista Home Premium Laptop, an XP Home laptop and an XP Home desktop (and an XBox 360) connected to my Linksys wireless G router and an XP Home desktop connected via CAT5 to the same router. All connect to the internet fine. The XP laptop finds and uses the printer on the desktop fine. I had setup a share of the Canon I560 printer, connected to my XP desktop, on the Vista laptop and it worked fine. I don't believe I made any changes, but now it won't find the printer and I can't seem to install a new copy.
The Vista machine will not detect the printer and won't even find the XP desktop or laptop on the network. The XP machines find each other fine. All machines get their IP address from the router via DHCP. All are in the same workgroup, or it seems so. Strangely the Vista machine shows WORKGROUP and the XP machines show Workgroup, even if I type the name in caps, XP still shows Workgroup and Vista WORKGROUP.............

Do I install the printer driver on the Mac or on the Vista machine? If I install on the Vista machine, is there a special installer? The printer is an HP DeskJet 2445.

Mar 23, 2008I've done a lot of searching tonight so I know I'm not the first one to have this issue, but I haven't found any kind of satisfactory solution. Here is my situation:
I have an HP Pavilion 6716 laptop with Quanta 30CC 79.26 mother board with a bus clock of 533 Mhz. I currently have two DDR2 PC2-5300 1 GB sticks of RAM in the machine (from factory) and all is well. I confirmed with HP that my machine can handle 4GB so I got two DDR2 667 2GB sticks of RAM (Kingston). If I put either one of the new sticks of RAM in I have no problems (first or second slot, makes no difference). But if i put both in I get the BSOD and first a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error, then a reboot and then a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and that's all she wrote. Put back the original RAM and all is well. I've read all about the MS KB929777 and I've uninstalled the patch then re-installed and it made no difference. Is there anything anyone can tell me or am I just shafted at 2GB RAM?

Dec 14, 2008I have this laptop. When the laptop is at Idle the CPU ranges from 60% to 100% is this normal for this type of laptop? Is there any way that I can resduce the CPU usage that Vista is using I have closed down unessecery programs that I dont need.

Why Has My Laptop Slowed Down?
Aug 20, 2009i haven't mentioned this since i have reinstalled vista, but i have noticed that, since then, the windows experience index scores have gone down 1 or 2 points. i have installed all the latest drivers using drivermax but little performance has been improved. and it seems that the gaming graphics have let me down on wei. also, the second lowest score on wei is the aero performance. it is 4.0 on the aero because i have recently changed the theme to windows classic for better performance. i have changed back to aero, and haven't bothered the update the wei score. here is a snip of the wei score right now-. i remember the score being up in the 5's but now, it is down. just wondering if it was to do with reinstalling vista by any chance? i'm not asking for a solution-but you can give me one if u can- just want to know what is causing the laggyness. look at my system specs to see why i think my computer should have better performance.

For instance, I am planning on making a new admin account on the computer, and from there I am going to delete the CURRENT admin account which I'm using now, by going to control panel > users/accounts > (admin account name) > Delete (would you like to keep account files? Answer: No).
And the buyer who will recieve the laptop will have access to the newly created account, and there will be no other account on the computer besides maybe the guest account (and another wierd Admin account that is somehow above all and I never used before) and I would have deleted this account via the control panel....am I safe after having done this? Meaning can the buyer still somehow recover private information (saved passwords, files, etc.) after I've deleted my account?
Reason I'm asking is, this computer already has the Dell drivers and downloads installed to make it as good as it is...and if I format with a Windows Vista CD, everything will be lost and I have to re-download drivers etc. It just makes the computer more valuable when selling.
How Can Re-boot Laptop?
Dec 10, 2008Acer Extensa 5220, Intel Celeron Processor 530 I tried to upgrade the OS from XP to Windows Vista. It was low of memory so I started deleting some unneeded files. But after that when I restarted the laptop I had an option F2 or F12. I tried both of them, but without access. When I put the XP cd it shows me NO BOOTABLE PARTITON ON TABLE. After that I can only turn off the laptop and do the same thing again and again. Please tell me how can I re-boot my laptop. All my important documents are on D drive, so I don't mind to clean all C drive and start all over, just how can I re-boot the laptop?

Jan 10, 2008I got a Sharp TV, 32" LC32GP3U-B (1080p full). I connected an hdmi cable from my laptop (also 1080p full) to the TV. My laptop screen dropped to Vista Basic theme in 16bit color mode and I can bring it back up to 32bit. Why is that? Inside my Nvidia control panel I was unable to change color depth. I cannot view on the TV display if I use single or clone mode. Everytime I try to set it to single or clone mode, it reverts to laptop display instead. Why?
A strange problem, when configuring Media Center, I chose TV as output. Now the color, contrast, gamma, etc is perfect on the TV itself and Media Center interface. However, when viewing the test videos to adjust the settings, the video is nearly black, dim, yet the interface to Media Center is perfect, so is viewing regular TV mode (w/o hdmi to the laptop) and even when HDMI is plugged in, quality is superb when using programs displayed on the TV. I did choose hdmi as connection type in MC, but why is the video so dim?.........
