I've done a lot of searching tonight so I know I'm not the first one to have this issue, but I haven't found any kind of satisfactory solution. Here is my situation:
I have an HP Pavilion 6716 laptop with Quanta 30CC 79.26 mother board with a bus clock of 533 Mhz. I currently have two DDR2 PC2-5300 1 GB sticks of RAM in the machine (from factory) and all is well. I confirmed with HP that my machine can handle 4GB so I got two DDR2 667 2GB sticks of RAM (Kingston). If I put either one of the new sticks of RAM in I have no problems (first or second slot, makes no difference). But if i put both in I get the BSOD and first a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error, then a reboot and then a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error and that's all she wrote. Put back the original RAM and all is well. I've read all about the MS KB929777 and I've uninstalled the patch then re-installed and it made no difference. Is there anything anyone can tell me or am I just shafted at 2GB RAM?
I bought an Laptop with Vista Home Premium 32bit. If I install a FULL version of Windows 7 on this Laptop, can I use the Vista Home Premium 32bit key from the laptop on one of my other desktops? If so, would I talk to Microsoft or the manufacturer to get a disk without all the manufacturer "Bonus" software?
there must be many people who have moved all their mail from XP on one laptop to Vista mail on a new laptop. These two computers can see each other on the network. How can I easily move all history, contacts, folders etc from one to the other?
I have a Aspire AM5620-E5301A Acer computer. On Acer it has Windows Vista Premium Home. I bought Windows Ultimate software to put on my Acer computer. It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. It was a store bought software it was cheaper than Acer price they offer. What is the problem with installing Ultimate with Acer computer?
I have been trying to upgrade from Windows XP Tablet Edition to Vista Ultimate on my Travelmate C300 laptop. I have found the following error file after the install fails in the location: C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcesPanther. The file is called: setuperr.log. The content is quite long but i will post it here - advise how i can upgrade to Vista?.................
I have a laptop with 64-bit Home Premium. The warranty expires in June. I want to upgrade to Ultimate. I haven't checked out the Anytime Upgrade yet. Will I be able to get the 64-bit upgrade to Ultimate or is a 32-bit upgrade to Ultimate the only upgrade path?
I m using vista x64 home premium and when i try to shut down my computer it looks like it is turning off then it starts windows again. Anyone had the same problem or know what to do ?
I have a Gateway MT6452 laptop connected to a LG 32LC2D HDTV with SVGA cable. Followed installation instructions and connection works for about five seconds before screen begins flashing and TV disconnects displaying "invalid signal". Software problem, hardware problem, or stupid human installer problem?!
I have this laptop. When the laptop is at Idle the CPU ranges from 60% to 100% is this normal for this type of laptop? Is there any way that I can resduce the CPU usage that Vista is using I have closed down unessecery programs that I dont need.

i haven't mentioned this since i have reinstalled vista, but i have noticed that, since then, the windows experience index scores have gone down 1 or 2 points. i have installed all the latest drivers using drivermax but little performance has been improved. and it seems that the gaming graphics have let me down on wei. also, the second lowest score on wei is the aero performance. it is 4.0 on the aero because i have recently changed the theme to windows classic for better performance. i have changed back to aero, and haven't bothered the update the wei score. here is a snip of the wei score right now-. i remember the score being up in the 5's but now, it is down. just wondering if it was to do with reinstalling vista by any chance? i'm not asking for a solution-but you can give me one if u can- just want to know what is causing the laggyness. look at my system specs to see why i think my computer should have better performance.
i'm running Vista Home Premium on my laptop, 2 gb ram & it freezes. It freezes more often when left alone for 10-20min. Sometimes when moving the mouse it freezes. Task mgr. will not open so i have to shut down system. At times i get a error message & my hd is being scanned.
But I just want to be sure that selling it unformatted would be safe. For instance, I am planning on making a new admin account on the computer, and from there I am going to delete the CURRENT admin account which I'm using now, by going to control panel > users/accounts > (admin account name) > Delete (would you like to keep account files? Answer: No).
And the buyer who will recieve the laptop will have access to the newly created account, and there will be no other account on the computer besides maybe the guest account (and another wierd Admin account that is somehow above all and I never used before) and I would have deleted this account via the control panel....am I safe after having done this? Meaning can the buyer still somehow recover private information (saved passwords, files, etc.) after I've deleted my account?
Reason I'm asking is, this computer already has the Dell drivers and downloads installed to make it as good as it is...and if I format with a Windows Vista CD, everything will be lost and I have to re-download drivers etc. It just makes the computer more valuable when selling.
Acer Extensa 5220, Intel Celeron Processor 530 I tried to upgrade the OS from XP to Windows Vista. It was low of memory so I started deleting some unneeded files. But after that when I restarted the laptop I had an option F2 or F12. I tried both of them, but without access. When I put the XP cd it shows me NO BOOTABLE PARTITON ON TABLE. After that I can only turn off the laptop and do the same thing again and again. Please tell me how can I re-boot my laptop. All my important documents are on D drive, so I don't mind to clean all C drive and start all over, just how can I re-boot the laptop?
I got a Sharp TV, 32" LC32GP3U-B (1080p full). I connected an hdmi cable from my laptop (also 1080p full) to the TV. My laptop screen dropped to Vista Basic theme in 16bit color mode and I can bring it back up to 32bit. Why is that? Inside my Nvidia control panel I was unable to change color depth. I cannot view on the TV display if I use single or clone mode. Everytime I try to set it to single or clone mode, it reverts to laptop display instead. Why?
A strange problem, when configuring Media Center, I chose TV as output. Now the color, contrast, gamma, etc is perfect on the TV itself and Media Center interface. However, when viewing the test videos to adjust the settings, the video is nearly black, dim, yet the interface to Media Center is perfect, so is viewing regular TV mode (w/o hdmi to the laptop) and even when HDMI is plugged in, quality is superb when using programs displayed on the TV. I did choose hdmi as connection type in MC, but why is the video so dim?.........
I have a Dell XPS M1530 and recently it has stopped going into sleep mode. Whenever I try to put my laptop to sleep its pretty much like it "restarts." I hear the 2 clicks from the cd drive and then after login all of my programs are booting up again.I have already checked the power settings in the control panel. Mylaptop is set to go to sleep when the lid is closed on both battery and ac.
Additionally, my laptop goes to sleep whenever I manually use "Fn + F1" and when I press "start - sleep." Has anyone had this problem before? How did you fix it?
I am not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this, but here we go I just bought a new Laptop, All is great, It is a HP Pavillion DV9000. I have noticed the CPU Noise is alot louder than those of Toshiba ie. Is there a way to lower this sound?
I'm running Vista x64 Ultimate on a new Dell XPS 1330. I have set the laptop lid power option to "do nothing" (as I've always done). Whenever I close the laptop lid, however, it looks like the machine attempts to suspend, then it reboots and comes back with the "Windows has recovered from a mighty serious error" message. I've searched and searched and not found any answer to this. All my drivers are up to date, I've WindowsUpdated, and I have no oddball hardware etc.
I bought a new Toshiba laptop while I was in the states and got it home here in the UK to find that it already has an ID and password on it. How do I clear all accounts and set it up with me as the administrator?
i just got a new vista laptop and i have connected to my home router when i first got it. the next day i couldnt connect at all (well) it says im connected, with full bars but i cant seem to be able to browse the internet or get any kind of internet connectivity. i've search and tried the the whole disabling QoA and IPv6, but that doesnt work, neither does uninstalling or repairing the wifi driver thing.
I had this problem a long time ago, I don't know why my laptop has it, it was some sound like a sigh, appearing about 6, 7 times and then off, and then it appears again. I attached an external HDD 1TB from SeaGate, is this one make my laptop runs over limited? I use Vista 32 bit, service pack 2, Memory 3Gb, Hard drive 250 GB, Firefox, IE8, Opera 10. My laptop is HP Pavilion dv2910us .
I have 2 laptops both running vista home premium and both have been working perfectly until recently. I use 3 mobile broadband and this worked fine until i upgraded the hardware to a faster version. When i did this i could not connect to the internet on my 2nd laptop. I was getting the message "local access only". My other laptop still worked fine on the new dongle so I could live without my 2nd laptop on my home internet as i primarily use this one for college anyway. However, i then decided to get a mobile broadband router. When i connect this up i can detect the network on both laptops and connect to it but i am now getting the message "local access only" on both computers.
I have spent literally hours of my life on the phone running through every kind of test with my isp and still have gotten nowhere. They cannot identify the problem and are telling me that there actually isn't one and can't understand why its not working!
I currently have an Acer Aspire 5100-5728 laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium installed on it. After very many months of usage with no problems pertaining to the internet, I am suddenly met with an inability to load internet websites in an acceptable time. Other programs such as Pidgin (Instant Messaging client) and uTorrent (BitTorrent client) that use the internet work flawlessly; my download/upload and data transfer speeds are not affected at all, and according to the Network and Sharing Center, I am connected.Anything in the browser bar, including my router setup, or the IP addresses of websites, take anywhere from three to ten minutes to load; sometimes they just fail to load entirely.this includes low-content pages such as Google, Bash.org, and various other websites. I've tried both Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer, and the problem is consistent. However, the problem is only specific to my machine; I am currently typing this up on my parents'Acer Aspire, connected to the same network, and websites load with no problem.
I've tried the following: -Rebooting the machine -Resetting the modem -Unplugging the router -Changing router settings -Resetting the network settings -Using wireless/wired -Flushing the DNS -Clearing the browser cache
I've also checked the Acer website, and it doesn't seem that there are any driver updates or anything of the sort.I can speculate that the problem is not with my ISP or any of the networking hardware. The various other computers in my house (running Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Ubuntu) all have full connectivity; it is only one Vista laptop that has this problem.
I can only open 1 folder ( File Folders ) All the others won't open on my Laptop. When i go to Security my option to edit a name is grayed out. See attached screenshot. Why can't i edit these.
I want to clone a laptop drive that's larger in capacity than the one in my laptop. The original has two logical partitions. I have Acronis True Image 11. Reason: If my laptop drive ever goes south, I should just be able to pop the cloned drive in and off we go. I need some detailed guidance on how to do this.
how to restart my Toshiba laptop fan. It is not blocked up and will spin if I blow on it. It used to run every day but I have not heard it for days now
My Acer laptop runs at 125 degrees F Idle, and it runs at about 160 F - 180 F when I play a game or do intense work. I was wondering how I can decrease the heat and keep my laptop cool. I've tried Speed Fan with no luck, and I haven't found any Acer Software to help me out. The computer it hot to the touch, and the temperature monitor is Speed Fan. I've even tried blowing out the dust in the case, and it doesn't fix it. I once opened up the bottom of my laptop, and saw lots of dust and blew it out. Most came out but some was left behind.
