Printer Spooler Is Not Running, Restart Printer Spooler
May 7, 2008
I'm trying to install my Printer Driver for Canon Pixma printer. When I run the executable to install the driver, it come back with "Printer Spooler is not running, Restart Printer Spooler. So I re-start Printer Spooler under Admin. Tools. Then I try to run the executable again. And again the Printer Spooler is stopped. It seems the executable stops the Printer Spooler?
I was printing fine until one day I got an error that said, Print Spooler not running. I restarted the print spooler and tried again. I got the same message. I have reinstalled drivers and rebooted the system. I still get the same message. I can not add a printer or see the printers that are installed.
In my 64-bit installation, the print spooler server suddenly stopped running (and will not restart). I've tried cleaning out registry keys (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlPrint), deleting the files out of Windows (C:WindowsSystem32spool) to no avail. The system log contains many of these:Error Service Control Manager Eventlog Provider7034None The application log contains these:WarningSpoolerSpoolss1035NoneThe print spooler failed to load print provider localspl.dll. This can occur because of system instability or a lack of system resources.ErrorSpoolerSpoolss1027None The system failed to initialize the local print provider: Error 0. This can occur because of system instability or a lack of system resources.
When installing a printer - at various stages of the process, the installation will fail. Two messages appear:
1) Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000006be)
2) Spooler subsystem app stopped working and was closed. A problem caused the application to stop working correctly.
Windows will notify you if a solution is available. This computer is running Windows Vista. This issue occurs with SP1 as well. This computer has been re-imaged several times and the issue is still there.
If I try to print from acrobat reader (8.1), (vista home premium) to HP LJ1020, the printer is stuck. I have to remove it from registry and reinstall it. It work fin until I try to print from adobe reader.
When connecting to network print devices. Printer Spooler crashes repeatedly. This happens on startup occationaly. It happens when running logon scripts. I have tried numerous scripts VBS and BAT files. All of which work 100% on XP boxes. When connecting manually it will load 1 or 2 devices then spooler will fail. I notice that there are 1000's of posts related to this issue. Is there a FIX or Workarount from Microsoft? Vista will never go in my enterprise at this rate...
I have spent so much time on this already. I had Lexmark all-in-one X5260 and an old Epson printer installed on my Vista Business Sony Vaio laptop without problem since early 2008. Yesterday I removed the old Epson, with problems, as it had a test print still in the spooler. Since then I have had ???Spooler SubSystem App??? problems and been unable to re-install or print from the Lexmark. I did System Restore back to the day before I removed the Epson printer. I carefully removed the Epson printer. Still no printing with Lexmark. I have followed the recommendations of many of the posts here, especially ???Spooler SubSystem App??? with Alan Morris and Eddie. I uninstalled Lexmark. I followed the procedure recommended in and presumed I deleted the drivers and spoolers.
However I was unable to do the ???net stop spooler??? and ???net stop spooler???. I got the response ???System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied???. In Command Prompt I was not at the root directory, I was at C:UsersVaio. (Vaio is my user name.) I am the only user of this laptop and my printer is plugged into a USB port, not networked. I then tried to install from the Lexmark 5200 Series CD. Before getting to the ???detecting your printer??? phase, I got the Spooler SubSystem App closed error message. Lexmark 5200 now appears in my printers but a test page print or doc print does not work.
Within the last couple of weeks the print spooler stops. The event viewer shows a message saying "print spooler service entered the stopped state" with an event ID of 7036. It does not display as an error - just as information There are no events on either side of it that are within an hour of the service stopping that shows that something occurred that might have triggered the event. I can restart service without any problem and print to all of the printers. It will stop again within a couple of days.
When I printed from adobe reader I got a message spooler problem and it will be closed. I you go to advance option and go to print as a image printing goes fine. So if the printer is stuck go to registry and delete your printer and reinstall printer drivers.
I'm having the same problem but with an HP Laserjet 1022. I have reinstalled the LJ 1022 several times, but when you print from Adobe it kicks the spooler out. What you can do is unplug the printer from the computer, reboot and the spooler will come back. Then you reinstall the printer drivers/ software, plug it in when asked for and as long as the user doesn't print an Adobe PDF, the printer won't kick out. I believe this to be an HP issue with their driver that is almost 1yr old.
I am getting a message saying that the spooler subsystem has stopped working and closed. I have tried manually restarting the spooler but I then get a interactive services message, saying that there is a message that cannot be viewed in windows, I click the view message button and I get a blue screen with a black window then I am told the it does not need to show me the message.
I've been printing from various apps without any problems since I purchased my PC in January. I started getting the error message " Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 process has stopped working" last Friday. It happens when I open Word 2007, and when I try to print in any other app including Notepad.
My OS is Vista 64 Home Premium with SP1. My printer is an Epson DX5050 and I have re-installed the latest drivers from Epson. The only changes I am aware of are various automatic updates which came out last week including Office 2007 SP1. I have tried a restore prior to last weeks updates but no difference.
i have plug in my HP laserJet 1010 into my laptop's usb port. I have even download the HP vistax64 driver for this particular printer. But the problem arise when i want to set printing preference for this printer. There will be an error and windows explorer will restart itself. But the problem is the printer can print out my document but do not allow me setup the print. Is it due to the vistax64 driver issue? Is there a workaround like installing the driver for Vista x86 instead? will there be any issue? To add on to my above problem, I get this error "Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 bit process has stopped working", when i tried to click on properties of the printer.
This involves my HP Pavilion dv9000t notebook with Vista Ultimate OS, & HP OfficeJet H470wbt (Bluetooth) printer. I am able to install the printer successfully. However, whenever I attempt to print anything I get a window stating: "Spooler Subsystem App stopped working and was closed". This happens both in Bluetooth & USB connection.
I have wasted my time dealing w/ HP support for almost a year. HP says the problem is with my OS. Per their instructions I even performed a complete recovery on my notebook & reinstalled everything back 6 times & my LapTop has been back to HP for warranty work twice. Nothing HP did or recommended has worked. The 1st new printer was returned & I was given a new one in exchange. Still the problem persists. Removed drivers, re-installed drivers, verified print spooler settings & restart service, restarted the print spooler, temporary workarounds, etc. & nothing has worked.
I have Windows Vistax64 and recently I have been receiving the above message every time I try to open an Office application, Office 2003 32-bit is installed. If I remove all the printers I don't get this message, but if I add a network printer which has a Vistax64 bit driver I will start getting the error again. This has only been happening this week, maybe after some updates were installed.
I've a problem trying to print a document with Acrobat on remote MinoltaC353 printer. Windows gives me the following error: "Thunking Spooler APIS from 32 to 64 process has stopped working". I've found an Hotfix but it works only with Service Pack 1 and I'm under SP2.
something was wrong to where i thought i got banned..i couldnt post messages or do anything.. well i had a question i got 2 computers one running vista 64 and the other vista 32 and got one hp psc 2355 printer with the latest vista drivers...the wired router i have is a BEFSR41 v. 4.2 and the internet and all works perfectly..i have disarmed my firewall and enabled printer sharing and all...but the printer isnt working..its showing up on the network but... no luck
I had a problem printing documents - the 'spooler subsystem app' was not functioning properly. So I found this site: You cannot add a printer, and you receive printer spooler error messages, and didn't see the fact that this troubleshooting page was for XP only. So I followed the instructions, and basically ended up deleting nearly all registry files in safe mode except the default ones. When I realized I had messed up, I performed a system restore that I had created immediately before editing the registry files. After the system restore, Vista wouldn't boot. So I restarted and booted in safe mode, got confirmation that the system had been restored, and restarted once again in Vista. Now, I have some annoying problems:
-the start menu freezes. I can click the menu, but i can't click any icons on the start menu itself. -Windows Live OneCare won't start -System restore will not boot. when I start it in the start menu (before start menu freezes), I see in task manager that rstrui.exe (the System restore file) is running as a process, but no application appears. How can i restore my computer?
I?m trying to install a network printer on a Vista machine. Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).
I have a Dell PC with XP Home and a Dell A960 Printer attached to it. I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.
Dose anyone knows if they make a printer cable: I received a new lab top and it didn't come with the older printer jack on the computer. I guess I need to use one of the usb ports? My Epson 660 still works I hate the idea of getting a new printer when my old one works.
Just installed Vista SP2. Everything seems to work OK except for my Dell 1720 printer. It now prints an extra page before the actual document to be printed. There are just a few spurious characters printed at the top of this unwanted page. The following "proper" pages are OK. I have, so it seems, the lastest driver available.
I cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?
i have installed a printer from my main pc which uses xp pro to my new vista lap top ----- it shows the icon for the printer in the tray but i cannot still print any thing
I just upgraded my XP home edition to Vista home premium with an upgrade disk provided by Dell. Before the upgrade I uninstalled my HP 2575 printer and software because it was listed as a compatibility issue. After upgrade I reinstalled new software from HP for my printer from the HP website. I plugged in the USB cable from my printer. Vista recognized the new device but would not put it in the printer folder in the control panel. Vista did find driver software online but could not install it. The HP solution center tells me no HP devices have been detected. When I try to print I get a message that I don’t have a printer hooked up. That’s the back ground here is what I have done.
I have updated Vista; most were successful some security ones failed. I have Service pack 1 I uninstalled and reinstalled HP software many times I started my spooler and reinstalled printer and software many times. I checked Task Manager and the hpqste08 services are running. I uninstalled virus protection and turned off the firewall. I have done everything I can find at HP, Microsoft and here. I tried to reload Vista but got a Worker Thread Returned at Bad IRQL error message so I stopped reload.
The one odd thing I did find was in the Device Manager. In the Device Manager the HP 2575 is listed twice. Once under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and once under Other Devices. When I click on the one under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and update driver software it finds the driver and says it’s up to date. When I do the same on the one under Other Devices, windows finds the software for this device but encountered an error when trying to install it. It does this when looking online and when looking in C: drive. The printer still does not show up in the printer folder in the control panel.
I have a Vista Home Premium Laptop, an XP Home laptop and an XP Home desktop (and an XBox 360) connected to my Linksys wireless G router and an XP Home desktop connected via CAT5 to the same router. All connect to the internet fine. The XP laptop finds and uses the printer on the desktop fine. I had setup a share of the Canon I560 printer, connected to my XP desktop, on the Vista laptop and it worked fine. I don't believe I made any changes, but now it won't find the printer and I can't seem to install a new copy.
The Vista machine will not detect the printer and won't even find the XP desktop or laptop on the network. The XP machines find each other fine. All machines get their IP address from the router via DHCP. All are in the same workgroup, or it seems so. Strangely the Vista machine shows WORKGROUP and the XP machines show Workgroup, even if I type the name in caps, XP still shows Workgroup and Vista WORKGROUP.............
I have a Vista Desktop that has a wireless router. I have shared a printer, but I would like my Mac laptop to be able to print to it. Do I install the printer driver on the Mac or on the Vista machine? If I install on the Vista machine, is there a special installer? The printer is an HP DeskJet 2445.
I have a HP Color Laser Jet 3600n already installed on the company network. I just got a new gateway with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. When i go to the printer wizard it locates the 3600 printer on the network. Then it asks me to choose the printer software from a list. or choose a disk. I don't have the disk. So, looking through this list, it doesn't even have the HP Color Laser Jet 3600 in there. it's got a 3000 and then jumps to 7000.
i have a printer on my old windows xp computer. but i went to hook it up to my vista, obviously the printer is not compatible which sucks. so is there a way i can connect it through a network? i have no idea where to start or what to do first.
1 Vista Home Premium 32 PC 1 Vista Home Premium 64 PC
Cisco SD2008 Switch
1 HP 4050 Laserjet (Parallel connected to Vista 32 Machine above)
Configuration of Printer: Connected via parallel to Vista 32 machine Printer is configured for sharing and is installed on both machines test pages print successfully from both machines
Additional notes: During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.
During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.
Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key stroke to register a response onscreen.
I have a new laptop with windows vista and my desktop has XP on my desktop is a printer installed and with my old laptop i could print with that printer. Now I'm trying to get this to work with my new laptop but it doesn't work. On the desktop I have enabled sharing the printer and both computers are in the same workgroup and if i get the vista to detect the printer via the setup of "add printer" it will find it but when i try and connect it it says "can not connect, acces denied" I've tried some things but it didn't help. I've installed the driver of the printer and i can still print with my old laptop.
