I do an add printer on my wireless connected laptop. It finds the printer on my XP desktop but when I click OK it say it cannot connect, access denied. This works fine on my other desktop and I am stumped. The printer works fine directly connected to this VISTA laptop as does file sharing.
View 9 RepliesMy vista laptop originally connected to the internet through a mac wireless network, but once i restarted, it will now only connect as a local network and I can't access the internet. If I look at the 'Network and Sharing Center' on the Vista laptop it says that the laptop is connected to the network, which is connected to the gateway, but the gateway is not connected to the internet. At the same time, I have an XP desktop with the same problem, but 3 mac computers can connect to the internet with no problems.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy HP dv2500 laptop running Vista used to work fine connecting to my printer over the local network via an XP-based main PC, which has a Kodak Printer hooked to it. At some point in the last few months, the laptop stopped being able to connect. I think this was around the time of upgrading to SP1, but cannot be sure. In any case, I even went so far as to rebuild my main PC and do a clean install of Vista on that machine, I can print from the laptop if I connect the printer directly into the USB port on my laptop, but cannot access the printer via the network anymore
- Printer sharing is enabled on both the PC and the laptop
- When I go into control panel - add printer - select network printer, the network printer appears in the pop-up box.
- Once I select the printer and click next, I get the following error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to the network"........
i have 2 computers and one laptop in my home the main computer is xp, laptop is xp. the hp printer is attached to main computer. my daughters computer is vista. i can see all computers on the network and had no problem in adding the printer to my xp laptop, but cannot add the printer to the vista computer. i have norton on all computers and have removed it and still same problem. when adding the printer on the vista computer, i can see the printer but when i add it produces this error "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x0000046a)"
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was able to load Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2 without a problem. I was in hopes that it would help me with the issue of trying to print to a networked printer on a shared XP machine from my Vista laptop where I have the SP1 loaded but that was a crock. Still getting error 0x0000000d when trying to connect to the printer after install. I am about to go back to XP and dump this OS. I just can't see how MS can justify not fixing these BIG problems that have been around for a majority of the users since the OS was released. Anybody got a pocket sized printer they will sell me cheap?

Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).

View 0 Replies View RelatedI cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?
I knew Vista Home does not allow remote desktop connection to it. I followed some online hack and install some Terminal Service hack file. It worked when my laptop Windows XP sits close to the Vista HOME PC, when the laptop is using wireless and the Vista is using Internet LAN connection. I made sure my Kaspasky Internet Security Firewall is open for RDP port. But the moment when I move out of my home, and bring the laptop to an outside network, I cann't connect to the Vista Home PC anymore. If RDP to Vista is not an option. What is the next best remote connection software that allows smooth file transform and clipboard transfer, as seamless as RDP?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my Acer Extenza 4620Z Laptop in December and it has Vista installed, and until today, the internet has always worked fine. Earlier today I was turning my computer on and when everything loaded up I connected to my home wireless network (Belkin router) but the computer couldn't connect to any programs that use the internet (AIM, Firefox, IE). My desktop is older and has XP, which is working like normal, all things internet work normally so I know its not the router or the ISP. When I contacted Acer about the situation, the IT told me to perform a system restore to a few days ago (3/9/08), which I did. That worked for a few hours and then it happened again, "Server Not Found" and nothing that uses internet would work. The I tried to System Restore it again to earlier (2/28/08) and it worked again, but also for only a few hours. Now my laptop just automatically installed all the Windows updates from 3/9-3/12 and the internet doesnt work again. How can I fix this problem? I am convinced that it has something to do with the Windows Updates because it only happens when one of the newer updates is installed.

When I click "View full map" on the Vista desktop, I do see the laptop (hurrah!) but it refuses to appear in the Network and Sharing Center, or in any of the browsing lists when I try to map a drive to a shared folder. (Right-clicking on the laptop icon in the full map does nothing.)
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have spent the better part of two weekends trying to get my XP w/ Service Pack 2 desktop to network with my Vista Home Premium laptop. Both computers are in the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I have turned off all firewalls, both software-based and on my router. On the XP computer, I have installed the LLTD protocol. The XP computer shows the Vista computer in the workgroup, but when I try to access it it tells me it is not accessible because I "might not have permission to use this network resource."
In Vista, the XP computer shows up in the Network Map, but when I pass the cursor over it, it stays as an arrow; it does not change to a hand. Furthermore, in the Vista Network window, it shows the router and the Vista computer itself, but not the XP computer. I also cannot access the XP computer directly by typing \ and its name. Each computer is able the ping the other. I am using a Linksys WRT54G-TM router. I am an administrator on both computers.
I've got a problem connecting to Hewlett Packer LaserJet 1020. Vista x64 connects fine and the printer works but Vista 32bit refuses. I'm constantly getting this error message: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000003eb). I installed Vista 32bit drivers from HP's website. Strange that Vista x64 works and 32bit doesn't.

Operation could not be completed. (error 0x0000007e)". I have added the x64 drivers by doing the following: From my Vista x64 machine, surf to the \serverprinters. Right clicked and went to server properties. On the driver tab, added a new x64 driver. Pointed to the fresh downloaded driver for HP LaserJet 4250 made May 6th. I have my files and printer on this server, and I connect off of it thru the wireless network. I cant see my printer or the files on the server. The only other computer that shows in my network, besides the lynksys, is the other Vista computer in the office.....which currently does show the server and printer.
My old laptop crashed and I just got a new Toshiba, so this is how/why I have an issue. I checked and its setup as private, Im thinking the 64bit is my problem can anyone hopefully NOT confirm this. My XP desktop and my Vista laptop are on the same network. I share and print with my laptop wirelessly with no problem, but I was wondering; when my desktop is turned off, I can't print from my laptop. The printer goes offline. Is there any way that I can print on my laptop without having to turn on my desktop PC too?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just purchased two new identical machines. I have a home LAN running W2k Server. (downgraded from a domain to a workgroup). One machine sees the server no problem. I can connect to drives and use the printer. One machine refuses to see the server. When I go Run and type in \ipaddress, it shows up. When I try to browse for it, it never shows up. Both machines on same LAN, same WORKGROUP. I've clicked everything I can find but the one machine just won't find the server. I'm baffled.
View 7 Replies View RelatedVista Home Premium SP1 - trying to connect Brother HL-2142 laser printer as a _local_ printer with USB cable connection. I have installed exactly as instructed in printer manual. When I go to print, file appears in print queue until it finally errors. When I look in Device Manager->Universal Serial Bus Controllers->USB Root Hub properties->Power tab, the description shows "Unknown USB Device". Not sure if this is what the problem is. If it is, why would the USB Device be unknown? Also in Device Manager->Other devices, I see the HL-2140 printer with a yellow key hole. Printer manual says using drivers and so on for HL-2140 is fine for the HL-2142. When I try to add the printer manually, I can't work out which is the USB port. Doesn't seem to be one. I've attached document with screen shot of existing ports to choose from....

One of the PCs cannot see or print to the network printer, though the other two can. The printer is shown as installed, but PING shows 4 packets sent, 4 packets received - 'Host Unreachable'.
