Connect Laptop To Mac Wireless Network

May 18, 2008

My vista laptop originally connected to the internet through a mac wireless network, but once i restarted, it will now only connect as a local network and I can't access the internet. If I look at the 'Network and Sharing Center' on the Vista laptop it says that the laptop is connected to the network, which is connected to the gateway, but the gateway is not connected to the internet. At the same time, I have an XP desktop with the same problem, but 3 mac computers can connect to the internet with no problems.

Wireless Network, Can't Connect Router

Mar 25, 2009

I have a BIG problem with my wireless network. I have two PC, one with vista ultimate X64 sp1 and another with both the same vista version plus XP sp3 X86 installed. my wireless network is based on ASUS, one router (with vista support) and another WIFI adapter installed on my second PC and as you might guess my main PC is connected to the router via the standard cable. I using WPA2 with a 63 ASCII PSK and it just works well with my XP sp3 but simply when I log in to vista it can't connect to my router, Vista can find my WIFI singal and say that it has a Good-Excellent signal. I downloaded and installed the x64 version of driver for my WIFI Adapter from ASUS website and it seems it should work. I tried everything. checking password...make it shorter reading articles about netWORKING.

Not Automatically Connect To Wireless Network

May 21, 2009

I am running Vista x64 on a wireless network, WPA, TKIP. The network connects and works fine when you connect manually, but even if you check the "automatically connect" checkbox, after turning off the computer you have to connect manually again and the checkbox is unchecked. Had an XP machine with wireless before and this was never a problem. Have a Vista x32 connected with Ethernet cable that has no problem getting on network automatically either. Router is WRT54GS (I know it's old), but my computer is not totally incompatible if I get a good connection and good speed on the network. Seems that I am not the only one having this problem on this forum, but the other cases seemed somewhat different?

Cannot Connect To Internet Via Wireless Secure Network

Mar 23, 2008

I have 3 computers in home: 1 is connected via Ethernet to DSL and D-Link wireless router, and is running Vista Home Premium. I can connect to Internet fine on 1.

2 is on my wireless network running XP. It connects to Internet just fine.

3 runs Vista Home Premium, but I cannot connect to the Internet. You can see the wireless network with a strong signal, but the connection is Local. If I remove WPA and make the network unsecured, I can connect to the Internet. If I plug in an Ethernet cable in this computer and into a port on the router, I can connect to the Internet. I checked ipconfig and it shows for the wireless network that there is no default gateway, and the user ID does not show like it does when I run ipconfig with the network unsecured.

I hav etried every possible combination of settings that i can do without being able to have both. The strange ting is that sometimes when I connect it all works for about 3 minutes then it falls over!

Why Cannot Remote Connect XP Laptop To Home PC?

May 10, 2009

I knew Vista Home does not allow remote desktop connection to it. I followed some online hack and install some Terminal Service hack file. It worked when my laptop Windows XP sits close to the Vista HOME PC, when the laptop is using wireless and the Vista is using Internet LAN connection. I made sure my Kaspasky Internet Security Firewall is open for RDP port. But the moment when I move out of my home, and bring the laptop to an outside network, I cann't connect to the Vista Home PC anymore. If RDP to Vista is not an option. What is the next best remote connection software that allows smooth file transform and clipboard transfer, as seamless as RDP?

Cannot Connect To Internet Acer Laptop

Mar 23, 2008

I got my Acer Extenza 4620Z Laptop in December and it has Vista installed, and until today, the internet has always worked fine. Earlier today I was turning my computer on and when everything loaded up I connected to my home wireless network (Belkin router) but the computer couldn't connect to any programs that use the internet (AIM, Firefox, IE). My desktop is older and has XP, which is working like normal, all things internet work normally so I know its not the router or the ISP. When I contacted Acer about the situation, the IT told me to perform a system restore to a few days ago (3/9/08), which I did. That worked for a few hours and then it happened again, "Server Not Found" and nothing that uses internet would work. The I tried to System Restore it again to earlier (2/28/08) and it worked again, but also for only a few hours. Now my laptop just automatically installed all the Windows updates from 3/9-3/12 and the internet doesnt work again. How can I fix this problem? I am convinced that it has something to do with the Windows Updates because it only happens when one of the newer updates is installed.

Connecting A Sony Vaio To Wireless Network: Switch On Wireless Adaptor Capability

Mar 23, 2008

a friend has a new sony vaio with vista home premium installed. For some reason it will not connect to my netgear router wirelessly. I have tried everything. I am however not too hot on Vista as this is my first time with it. The adaptor says its on, but when you interegate it and ask why it wont connect it keeps telling me "switch on wireless adaptor capability". In the network connections it is on, the switch on the front right is swiitched on and the wireless network light on the front is on. The network is fine and working as i have my laptop connected to it. All security is present and entered. It seems to be the computer as it doesnt find any networks when there are loads in the area. Am i missing something exceptionally obvious? Does Vista have another "on" switch for this adaptor?

Wireless Set-up With Laptop - Make It Automatic?

Jun 6, 2009

I've just set up a wireless modem for my dad, who'd had a wired modem for 18 months. It's more convenient but it takes a while to get linked up, especially as the wireless has to be manually started with two keys. I've clued my dad up a a fair bit but he tries to get surfing before it's all going properly. Because I normally use Ubuntu now my own wireless is on a few seconds past the BIOS screen, I suppose, and I wondered if there is some registry alteration or something that can be made so that the wireless is always on once Vista starts up.

Or maybe the wireless process can be put into the startup programs? I wouldn't know what the process or software is called (whether it's among Vista's programs or the Advent's add-on stuff). If Ubuntu running on the same laptop would allow immediate wireless I imagine there's no hardware reason why this can't be done. Normally it's a case of pressing Fn and F10 with Vista. If the laptop is merely restarted rather than turned off and on the wireless remains on. The waiting wouldn't bother me, but my dad being of a certain age is not mad keen on change and different procedures.... I stop short of
seeing if you can use eBay with carrier pigeons....

Cannot Get XP Desktop- Laptop Network To Work

Mar 23, 2008

I have spent the better part of two weekends trying to get my XP w/ Service Pack 2 desktop to network with my Vista Home Premium laptop. Both computers are in the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I have turned off all firewalls, both software-based and on my router. On the XP computer, I have installed the LLTD protocol. The XP computer shows the Vista computer in the workgroup, but when I try to access it it tells me it is not accessible because I "might not have permission to use this network resource."

In Vista, the XP computer shows up in the Network Map, but when I pass the cursor over it, it stays as an arrow; it does not change to a hand. Furthermore, in the Vista Network window, it shows the router and the Vista computer itself, but not the XP computer. I also cannot access the XP computer directly by typing \ and its name. Each computer is able the ping the other. I am using a Linksys WRT54G-TM router. I am an administrator on both computers.

Laptop No Longer Connects To Printer On Home Network

Feb 6, 2009

My HP dv2500 laptop running Vista used to work fine connecting to my printer over the local network via an XP-based main PC, which has a Kodak Printer hooked to it. At some point in the last few months, the laptop stopped being able to connect. I think this was around the time of upgrading to SP1, but cannot be sure. In any case, I even went so far as to rebuild my main PC and do a clean install of Vista on that machine, I can print from the laptop if I connect the printer directly into the USB port on my laptop, but cannot access the printer via the network anymore

- Printer sharing is enabled on both the PC and the laptop
- When I go into control panel - add printer - select network printer, the network printer appears in the pop-up box.
- Once I select the printer and click next, I get the following error: "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Make sure that you have typed the name correctly, and that the printer is connected to the network"........

Can't Connect To Wireless

Side note, I have had both laptops connected and surfing the Web and having access to network shares and what not but they have both since been dropped. I'd be happy to just focus on one of them.

Hard wiring via ethernet cable it works but very slow in comparison to XP PC's on same router. Fn + F8 indicates both Wi-fi and Bluetooth are on.Device Manager indicates a problem with Other Devices/Network Controller saying there's no drivers. Network troubleshooting tells me there's no wireless adapter.Updating drivers from Device Manager does nothing. Downloaded Vista drivers from Toshiba gives the same result. Very tempted to put it back in the box and send it back for refund, not another Toshiba, but thought I'd give the groups a try first.
