Unable To Get Vista To Recognize Drivers For My Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 In A Non-RAID Capacity

Apr 30, 2009

I am unable to get Vista to recognize drivers for my Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 in a non-RAID capacity. It's a SATA drive and I am of the understanding that these cause similar problems fairly frequently. In most cases about which I have read, the issue has been solved by choosing the "load driver" option during Vista installation and manually selecting a SATA driver from a driver disk of some form. Unfortunately, this course of action has not turned up any SATA driver on my motherboard's driver disk nor have I been able to find one at the manufacturer's (Gigabyte) website. I am currently waiting for a reply from Gigabyte customer care and am about to look up JMicron's (the SATA controller producer for Gigabyte) website, but I hoped someone here might have some insight into the problem.

Seagate Offers Firmware Fix For All Problematic Barracuda 7200.11 Hard Drives

Jan 19, 2009

Quote: Seagate has issued an official statement today, acknowledging all recent problems with some Barracuda 7200.11 drives. Based on the information posted in the company's forums here, select Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB 3.5-inch hard drives made in Thailand, suffer from a firmware issue that bricks the HDDs after a short period of time. After three to five months of normal operation these defective hard drives will suddenly lock-up as a protective measure and prevent the system from recognizing the drive from then onwards. In most cases the information won't be lost, but the drive will be completely useless, changing the drive's electronics won't help much either. This problem occurs not only to the 1TB Barracuda models, but to Seagate 1.5TB, 640GB, 500GB, 320GB and 160GB Barracuda 7200.11 drives, along with some Maxtor and ES.2 models. That's pretty disturbing, but now Seagate will provide its customers with an updated firmware if their drive is problematic.

Here's the full statement from the company's spokesman Mike Hall:Seagate has isolated a potential firmware issue in certain products, including some Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives and related drive families based on this product platform, manufactured through December 2008. In some circumstances, the data on the hard drives may become inaccessible to the user when the host system is powered on*. As part of our commitment to customer satisfaction, we are offering a free firmware upgrade to those with affected products. To determine whether your product is affected, please visit the Seagate Support web site at Seagate Knowledge Base..........

Will Not Recognize An Existing RAID Arrays

Apr 20, 2008

I am running a dual boot system, XP and Vista. See below for system components. I have been using the Windows XP OS with two RAID 1 arrays with no problems. The arrays were created using the BIOS, and XP was installed with the Intel RAID drivers (via floppy during initial setup). For the two arrays to accessed (read/write) I found I had to use XP's Disk Management utility and convert the arrays to "Basic Disks". I was not worried about the warning of loosing data on either array as they were blank, no data.

I recently installed Windows Vista, and found this OS will not recognize the two existing RAID arrays. I can not see either arrays with "My Computer" nor with "Windows Explorer". Therefore I can neither read nor write to these RAID arrays.....

Unable To Format Seagate 1.5 GB Internal Drives

May 4, 2009

I have a Vista Ultimate 64 bit system using an ASUS striker II formula MB, Intel core 2 quad 2.66 mh CPU, 8 GB RAM. It was setup with 2 320 GB Seagate drives and a 500 GB Seagate drive in a RAID. A week and a half ago when shutting down the system, I got the install updates message. I clicked OK. Upon return, I found the system still running showing the BIOS screen. After reboot, I had a no operating system error. Using the Vista DVD to attempt repair, yielded a corrupt partition error. I attempted to reinstall Vista on one 320 GB drive. This gave a disk boot failure. After trying this and that, I ran chkdsk during boot which fixed the error. I want to recover my data. To facilitate recovery, I purchased 2 1.5 GB Seagate drives. I have attempted to format the drives using computer management and safe mode with command prompt. The drives will get to 73% format but no farther.

Install Raid/sata Drivers With F6

Mar 11, 2009

I have ordered a bunch of pc parts. I am positive that they are all compatible. They are all vista 64 compatible. I have already gotten all the necessary drivers from the manufacturers' websites. I have never loaded vista on a machine. So, having said that, here are my questions. After I put it all together, What do I need to do before I load vista64? I have 2 sata HDDs but I am not going to use RAID. Will I need to install raid/sata drivers with F6 during the installation? I am listing the main bits of the machine below. Will Vista's default drivers be enough for me to get going so I can use the drivers that I got from the manufacturers?

Seagate IDE To USB Drive In Windows Vista

Mar 23, 2008

i am trying to connect two old seagate ide 80 gb hard drives ( barracuda 7200.7 and ST380020A ) to my dell inspiron 1300 laptop with windows vista home premium. i am using an ide to usb cable. first thing that happens when i connect either is that 'safely remove hardware' icon pops up in the system tray and then disappears after a few seconds. i managed to double-click it a few times before it disappears and go into the properties of the 'USB Mass Storage device' and at first it says this device is working properly, then the mouse pointer turns into an hour sign and the following msg replaces that : Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45) To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer. Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.

it then disappears also from the Safely Remove Hardware popup box all together. the drives do not appear in my computer, device manager or computer management. i have rebooted many times, tried all the different jumper settings, and even deleted the INFCACHE1.inf file as mentioned in one of the newsgroups fixes i found after hours of googling. still i cannot seem to access the drives at all.

Drivers For Belkin Wireless Card (f5d7001uk) Which Doesnt Have Any Vista 32 Drivers

Feb 15, 2008

ever since planning on a new pc build i knew at some point that id want to install vista on it. Ive planned to get vista 64 seeing as i have a machine capable of running a 64 bit o/s with ease (when i buy my extra 2gb of ram along with my copy of vista) I have been doing my research on which of my games ill still be able to play & tbh the only ones that im remotely worried about are older than red orchestra so no problems there.

My only real concern is the drivers for my belkin wireless card (f5d7001uk) which doesnt have any vista 32 drivers! But ive heard a rumour that vista automatically installs the drivers itself?? Im also worried that some of the useful little apps i have installed wont install such as winrar, wavepad, deepburner pro 1.8 & punkbuster

Default Vista Supplemental Drivers Would Mean Loss Of Graphics Quality Compared To Using Up To Date Drivers On A XP OS

Oct 4, 2005

While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system?  Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

RAID Driver Controller Error Unable OS

Mar 24, 2008

I am running Vista SP1 and want to mirror the HDD in a RAID 1 configuration. I have purchased 2 HDD with the same specifications and copied the existing partition onto one of them. The system is booting into Vista well until I enable the on board nForce3 250 RAID controller and I get an error that it is unable to find an operating system. The RAID driver is installed under Windows and is recognised in Device Manager. I suspect it is an issue with one of the boot files i.e. boot.ini.

Unable To Install Drivers For The Serial ATA Controller

May 19, 2007

I am unable to install drivers for the Serial ATA Controller that is displayed within the Device Manager and my HDD show up as an ST325062 0AS SCSI Disk Device. Even when I install the recommended driver for the Srial ATA Controller from the Windows Update website it still remains driverless. Now whether the following issues are related to this problem or not I am not sure, but I will state them here anyway.

After a certain period of time my entire system will freeze and I will have to reset my PC, although when I do it does not reset but powers down. This is continues if I use the restart command from the Windows Start Menu or automatically restart after the installation of a software package. This is extremely annoying. Having shelled out for the latest hardware in order to be compatible with Windows Vista 64 and then for this to happen is quite sickening.

RAID For An Existing VISTA Install

May 24, 2009

I built this system and installed VISTA 64 and all my other software before I decided to build a RAID. A few weeks after start-up, I bought a couple new drives and wanted to build a RAID.I could set the BIOS up for RAID, type Ctrl+I, assign the RAID drives, but then I would get a BSOD before the Windows Boot GUI. This happened no matter what ports the RAID was in as opposed to the port positions of C: and/or my DvD drive.

I had to install the Intel Storage Matrix Manager. no luck there either. When I double click IATA88ENU.exe it tries to run, but returns "Computer does not meet the minimum system requirements. Set up will exit........

Missing Vista Drivers And How To Get It

Apr 6, 2008

When you have a relatively new OEM product (in this case an NVIDIA motherboard) and the computer manufacturer doesn't seem to care that you are missing Vista drivers, ultimately how do you ever get through to the company? Every time I put this desktop to sleep, when I wake it up there's no Internet connection. I must fully restart the machine each and every time in order to get an Internet connection.

(I'm running a cable modem situation in a home office. I do have a router, but bypassing the router entirely does not change the situation.) The manufacturer has confirmed that this is a motherboard problem (NVIDIA's nForce 680i SLI). More specifically, they say that NVIDIA has not released an updated Vista driver to correct the situation. This situation has been ongoing for at least 8 months. Because the motherboard is an OEM product, NVIDIA won't talk with me directly. The same is true for Microsoft.

So we got our hands on a single core amd 64 3200+ cpu and put it in. Now the machine runs fine. Why would using a dual core processor slow the machine down significantly. He has set up a dual boot with xp 64 and it runs fine with the x2 processor.
