Vista Doesn't Recognize Any Computer

Mar 23, 2008

My new computer (Vista) is wired to a wireless router. While the router sees all other connections to the network, Vista doesn't recognize ANY computer (1 on XP, 1 a MacBook and 1 a wireless game system). How do I get Vista to recognize the other computers on the network? Previous XP computer saw and allowed sharing without issue, so not a hardware problem I'm thinking, as the new computer/Vista is the only change to the system.

PS2 Controller Adapter: Vista Ultimate X64 It Doesn’t Recognize It

Mar 25, 2008

I used to use my SUPER BOX4 (Ps2 controller to PC adapter) for when I had XP and it worked like a charm. Now with installing Vista Ultimate X64 it doesn’t recognize it.
Is there a compatible driver for it (which I doubt) or is there an alternative adapter?

Ms Doesn't Recognize Own File

Nov 28, 2009

I already had Virtual PC installed in Windows 7. I downloaded XP Mode and installed it. It is in Program files, but it shows no icon in the start menu, and clicking on the vhd file opens a window asking what program should open it. An online MS search says that MS doesn;t recognize their own file. I uninstalled it and installed it again. No icons. I uninstalled Virtual PC and reinstalled it. No improvement. I have done all the above, changing sequence and restarting the computer in between several times. What's the secret? How do I get the XP Mode to open up and work?

Doesn't Recognize Headset

Feb 27, 2009

so I'm running a MSI 790x Plat and Windows Vista x64 everything is plugged in correctly according the the manual, and I have all of my drivers updated, but it still doesnt recognize the headset or head phones for that matter. This headset works on other computers so i know its not the headset. I've asked around and people have told me i might need to enable it in the BIOS, but I've looked around and i don't know how to find it there. So I guess what im asking is if anyone can help me find the setting within the BIOS where i can enable it, or do i have to do something else.

SI UpdFlash Program But It Doesn't Seem To Recognize

May 1, 2009

I'm having an eSATA problem that seem to be the same issue as described by Alanho in his post on May 27, 2008: I'm starting a new thread because that was almost a year ago and there is no answer given in that thread. I have an add-in, PCI-Express, 2-port, eSATA II card. It is a Heisei Electronics Co., Model BPE-220SI-V1.2, which contains a Silicon Image 3132 chip. My external drives are Western Digital MyBooks and they came with the eSATA cables. My PC is an HP xw6200 Workstation configured dual boot with XP Pro x86 and Vista Ultimate x64 SP1.

The eSATA drives work fine in the XP OS. In the x64 Vista OS, the eSATA connection is lost between the host adapter and the drive whenever the drive is idle for about 15 minutes. If the drive is accessed more often then that, then it never disconnects. For example, it will not disconnect if a torrent is running to the eSATA drive. In the thread I mentioned at the top of this post, someone suggested making a BAT file that would ping the drives every so often to keep the connection alive. Can anyone tell me specifically how to do this for the 2-port adapter? It sounds like this might be a work-around until I can figure out how to solve the problem directly.

I did check the Silicon Image website to see if I could flash the firmware on the adapter. I found the SI UpdFlash program but it doesn't seem to recognize the Heisei adapter as one that is flashable. Can anyone suggest a PCIe eSATA adpater card that is known to work corectly with Vista x64? I'd get a new adapter card if I knew of one that will work. Any other ideas? Someone who responded to Alanho's post said that this was a known problem in Vista. Is that true?

System Doesn't Recognize Graphics Card

Jun 16, 2009

My GeForce 9800 GTX is no longer recognized by my computer. As a result it doesn't recognize my monitor specifics either. When I look under Device Manager it doesn't have a listing for display adapters at all. There is a new entry under "Other devices" labeled "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". When I reboot or "scan for new hardware" it trys to download drivers but fails. When I try to manually update the driver I get a message:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+

The system cannot find the filed specified."

I've tried everything including updating my BIOS, updating my mainboard drivers, downloading current WQHL certified graphics drivers, uninstalling any and all drivers related to NVIDIA, etc with no luck. I have a feeling there is something simple that I'm not doing but I have no idea what it is.I can't play any games because the system "Failed to find a suitable display device. Exiting program."

App Files Run Doesn't Match Computer

Oct 13, 2009

I guess the the app files kinda run by themselves when you double click them so it doesn't matter where they are on your computer. I could be wrong though. However what about the ZIP files? I remember once using the Dell resource CD and it would download some of these ZIP files...but they would put them somewhere in my program files folder. That is why I was willing to use the CD more since it would place these files in the correct place (I mean I'm not going to put them on my desktop for instance). So where do I put the ZIP files? There are only ZIP and application files.

Computer Doesn't Sleep Mode

May 12, 2009

I've found a few issues regarding sleep mode, but none that seemed to directly address my problem, so here goes: In the last two weeks or so, I've noticed that when I close my laptop's lid, the computer doesn't go into sleep mode, but instead hangs with a blank screen, and is completely unresponsive when I try to wake it up. The only way to fix it is to hold the power button to get it to shut off. However, this only seems to happen when my wireless network card (internal) is switched OFF. Even then, it doesn't happen all the time (i.e. sometimes it successfully goes to sleep, and wakes up again when I open the lid). It hasn't been a problem at all when the network card is on.

This started happening in late April, when two things happened (and they both happened at about the same time). First was that Windows Update automatically downloaded and installed a hotfix (946776) related to the computer crashing when the network status is changing. For what it's worth, I had never experienced the problem that the hotfix was supposed to correct. The other thing that happened was that I uninstalled McAfee and installed ZoneAlarm antivirus and firewall. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem 100% of the time, so I haven't figured out what sequence of programs running causes the problem (though it seems that iTunes and/or Windows Media Player is usually running when it happens). The first thing I tried was to use system restore and went back to before I installed zonealarm and the update. When I reinstalled ZA, Windows Update decided it was going to hurry up and download the hotfix before I had a chance to tell it not to. I uninstalled the hotfix (though it still shows up on the update history page, but not the list of installed updates), and the problem still occurred.......

Unable To Get Vista To Recognize Drivers For My Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 In A Non-RAID Capacity

Apr 30, 2009

I am unable to get Vista to recognize drivers for my Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 in a non-RAID capacity. It's a SATA drive and I am of the understanding that these cause similar problems fairly frequently. In most cases about which I have read, the issue has been solved by choosing the "load driver" option during Vista installation and manually selecting a SATA driver from a driver disk of some form. Unfortunately, this course of action has not turned up any SATA driver on my motherboard's driver disk nor have I been able to find one at the manufacturer's (Gigabyte) website. I am currently waiting for a reply from Gigabyte customer care and am about to look up JMicron's (the SATA controller producer for Gigabyte) website, but I hoped someone here might have some insight into the problem.

Esata On X64 Vista Doesn't See It

Feb 6, 2009

I use an external esata enclosure. When I plug it into my laptop, Vista Ultimate x64 recognises the hotplugging and sees the drive right away, and handles it fine when I switch off. I have a Vista Ultimate x64 desktop using a motherboard without a built esata port. The enclosure came with an esata adapter plate that internally connects to a sata port on the motherboard. This works, but only if I boot the PC up with the external drive switched on first. If I switch it on later, Vista doesn't see it. I understood that sata eand esata were both hot pluggable, so I'm not sure why this is not working. Does the motherboard need a esata port to work with a esata based external hdd enclosure (to allow hotplug capability). I can purchase a PCI express card that provides an esata port, but I don't know if thats going to make a difference.
