I have some problem with som games in first decade red allert 2 gets "fatal string error" at start and quits tiberian sun and generals doesn?t recognize the cd. I?m running windows vista home premium swedish version.
View 9 RepliesI am writing to this Forum in desperation because I cannot find any way to get in touch by email with Windows Live OneCare even though I am a paid subscriber. I have NOT had a good experience of MS tech support. After 18 months of endless problems with Windows VISTA Ultimate Edition V 6001 I now wish to reformat my computer and get RID of it altogether, replacing it with System 7 for which I have a serial number and a beta download from the recent Microsoft online download offer.
As VISTA seems to have eleminated DOS altogether and the old FDisk command doesn't work from a command line start, I have tried to reformat from my OEM Vista Ultimate Edition re-installation DVD which I am certain used to offer me reformat and partitioin delete as the first options but that no longer seems to offer me any reformat option at all and not only instists only on re-installing VISTA (which I no longer want) but leaves the old installation in a directory renamed "WindowsOld" which VISTA will then not allow me to delete....
why i cant play command and conquer 3? when i play campaign and then the game loads up then i click play the game just closes then an error message appers that says "a program cause your game to stop working" something like that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago I deleted a few shortcuts from my desktop, now everytime I even try to go to IE, a windows pops up asking me which program do I want to use to open IE - this is happening everytime I try to open a new window and for exapmple i want to go to Google... Also, one of the shortcuts i deleted is Skype, now if I try to open Skype from the icon I have on the bottom toolbar or form the Start menu, a window pops up saying that it doesn't recognise the program - any ideas of what I've done wrong and if there is a solution??

Installation went perfect but when i tried to play it, i got an error that looks exactly like this, "Please make sure you have DirectX9.0 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements and that you do not have hardware acceleration disabled in the Display control panel." I have a HP Pavilion 1275mx dv4.
1) Why cant i play it?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI keep getting the error of c00021a fatal system error. which cause me to shut the comptuer down for 5-10 minutes then insert my vista install disk and run the repair and restart causing me 20-30 minutes of down time. The error seems to trigger at high memory usage usually when I play games like CS:s and it makes the game ice up and not load after 10-20 minutes.
A) Will a reimage completely cleaning off the hard drive solve this
B) If so how do I do it from a vista upgrade disk
C) Should I just get a new system (AMD 939 3800+ 2gb ddr400) that is a e8400 or q6600 system for a few hundred?
D) Alternative solutions
The system runs fine when i'm just internet surfing/iming etc but as soon as I load a game it goes crazy and its not just CS:s any game or high memory usage (photoshop) just trashes the system.
I have a problem on MSN that it doesn't recognize my web cam i know it works because other programs pick up the camera.
I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it but that doesn't work
I have tried Uninstalling it via add/remove programs. It says it was completely removed. I then tried to install Trend Micro, however when that runs we get an error message that says "a fatal windows error has occured please restart your computer and try again"
Then from searching thru this forum I found out about the Norton Removal tool. We downloaded and ran that and it found other things to remove. Once it was completed we tried to install Trend Micro again but still get the same error message. At this time we are running a full system restore to bring the Laptop back to out of the box condition. Has anyone had this happen before, and are there any steps I am missing?

It is in Program files, but it shows no icon in the start menu, and clicking on the vhd file opens a window asking what program should open it. An online MS search says that MS doesn;t recognize their own file. I uninstalled it and installed it again. No icons. I uninstalled Virtual PC and reinstalled it. No improvement. This headset works on other computers so i know its not the headset. View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having an eSATA problem that seem to be the same issue as described by Alanho in his post on May 27, 2008: I'm starting a new thread because that was almost a year ago and there is no answer given in that thread. I have an add-in, PCI-Express, 2-port, eSATA II card. It is a Heisei Electronics Co., Model BPE-220SI-V1.2, which contains a Silicon Image 3132 chip. My external drives are Western Digital MyBooks and they came with the eSATA cables. My PC is an HP xw6200 Workstation configured dual boot with XP Pro x86 and Vista Ultimate x64 SP1.
The eSATA drives work fine in the XP OS. In the x64 Vista OS, the eSATA connection is lost between the host adapter and the drive whenever the drive is idle for about 15 minutes. If the drive is accessed more often then that, then it never disconnects. For example, it will not disconnect if a torrent is running to the eSATA drive. In the thread I mentioned at the top of this post, someone suggested making a BAT file that would ping the drives every so often to keep the connection alive. Can anyone tell me specifically how to do this for the 2-port adapter? It sounds like this might be a work-around until I can figure out how to solve the problem directly.
I did check the Silicon Image website to see if I could flash the firmware on the adapter. I found the SI UpdFlash program but it doesn't seem to recognize the Heisei adapter as one that is flashable. Can anyone suggest a PCIe eSATA adpater card that is known to work corectly with Vista x64? I'd get a new adapter card if I knew of one that will work. Any other ideas? Someone who responded to Alanho's post said that this was a known problem in Vista. Is that true?
My new computer (Vista) is wired to a wireless router. While the router sees all other connections to the network, Vista doesn't recognize ANY computer (1 on XP, 1 a MacBook and 1 a wireless game system). How do I get Vista to recognize the other computers on the network? Previous XP computer saw and allowed sharing without issue, so not a hardware problem I'm thinking, as the new computer/Vista is the only change to the system.

When I look under Device Manager it doesn't have a listing for display adapters at all. There is a new entry under "Other devices" labeled "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)". When I reboot or "scan for new hardware" it trys to download drivers but fails. When I try to manually update the driver I get a message:

I used to use my SUPER BOX4 (Ps2 controller to PC adapter) for when I had XP and it worked like a charm. Now with installing Vista Ultimate X64 it doesn’t recognize it.
Is there a compatible driver for it (which I doubt) or is there an alternative adapter?
Windows Vista has a new search bar located on the Start Panel. You can use the new search box to find items in the various folders of your Start Menu as well as run any application from it. Just type in the name of the executable and it will search your hard drive for it and run it. This is a great feature but if you have a lot of files on your computer, then be prepared for a short delay since it may have to search for a while.
If you do not want to wait that long, there is a quick way to get the old Run command back on your Start Panel....

I have just put a new ide dvd-rewriter into my computer and my computer doesn't recognize the new dvd drive or an existing cd drive. I cant see them in 'My Computer' or the 'device manager'. I don't no if this has anything to do with it but at the same time I also installed a new TV tuner into the computer and now I cant run the CD to fully install it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen UAC kicks in for some reason, you can optionally choose to view more details where that dialog displays what looks like a long hexadecimal string - I haven't confirmed whether it is valid hexadecimal. The point is, its probably some kind of ID for that particular instance of UAC kicking in. Why isn't that string selectable so that it can be copied to the clipboard? Is that string stored as part of a log that UAC maintains?
