So the problem I need solved involves a Laptop running Vista and a Digital Download copy of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum however the game doesn't just start up because the laptop has a dual core and the Dual core FIX that's on the net makes the DIGITAL download version require a disc.

I have Vista Home Premium 64bit, I'm trying to install and run aBETA game I need to test, all goes fine until I try to run it, I get themessage "Parental controls doesn't allow for this game to run". I haveone account, as admin, no password and I already tried "run as admin" for the game but still the same. When I go to parental controls it tells me none are set as I'm an administrator, so no way to turn them on or off! I don't want another account, I just want one account, I'm the only user and I want to be able to do eveything with my account. How can I completely turn parental controls off?

My problem is that I have successfully installed Age of Empires 2 on my new laptop, but I am not able to even start the game. Whenever I press play on the game menu, it says that a problem has caused the program not to work correctly, and it closes. I'm running on Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. I already downloaded AOE2 update v2.0. I also tried changing compatibility, and reinstalling several times, but of no use. View 7 Replies View RelatedTwo days ago I deleted a few shortcuts from my desktop, now everytime I even try to go to IE, a windows pops up asking me which program do I want to use to open IE - this is happening everytime I try to open a new window and for exapmple i want to go to Google... Also, one of the shortcuts i deleted is Skype, now if I try to open Skype from the icon I have on the bottom toolbar or form the Start menu, a window pops up saying that it doesn't recognise the program - any ideas of what I've done wrong and if there is a solution??
View 4 Replies View RelatedVista Home Premium I'm having with my newish Scaleo P2. I've never had problems with it for the two months I've had it. Yesterday I was burning some system recovery discs, but I had to leave before the process was finished. I asked my lady (no lady jokes, please to just shut off the computer when it was done. She *apparently* just did what I asked, but said there was a notification about updates that would be installed before shutdown. Well, when I turned on the computer this morning there was the usual startup Vista progress bar (moving green dots) then nothing - blank screen and no noticable noise from the pc. I noticed the last DVD disc was still sitting in the drive - I took it out and restarted. Same thing. Restarted and entered the boot menu and the advanced chipset features - the boot devices were correct and the HD's were properly recognized.Safe mode doesn't start up - freezes with 'wait' in the bottom of the screen. I got in touch with support and entered the Vista repair option. Running the 'Startup Repair' nothing happens - it just keeps running for hours. Running the 'System Recovery' - from an earlier Windows date, I get a message that I need to first run disk recovery and repair, which then proceeds and keeps running with no progress. I've tried putting in the first of the recovery discs that finished yesterday, but upon startup, it's like the pc doesn't sense anything's in the drive.

Ever since then, when I start it up McAfee doesn't open at start up, or at all for that matter. And, everytime I double click on the shortcut, the picture comes up, but it just stays that way, and then the desktop freezes. And, when I try to open something that needs permission to continue, like when I right click and select "Run as administrator, nothing happens. Also, when I try to uninstall something, nothing happens. The internet icon on the taskbar is always frozen, indicating that there's no connection, when there actually is.
Most programs do the same as McAfee, althought Internet Explorer 8 works, but not well. It stops working alot and hulu videos don't work for instance. Also, anytime I try to download something on IE8, it quickly jumps to 99% and stops there. And, whenever I try system restore in help, the window stops responding. My mom thinks that it might be a virus from a song that she downloaded on LimeWire 5.1.1 PRO. But again, McAfee won't work. And my registry cleaning software won't open, because it has to ask permission. Which doesn't work. Windows Update doesn't even respond when I open it. What should I do?
I've recently helped a friend set up his laptop with 64-bit Vista Home Premium. Since the Programs menu (classic start menu setup) looks like an overflowing junk room after everything gets installed, I made it tidier by getting rid of some shortcuts that weren't needed and organizing others in easy to manage category folders. I was able to create all the folders I needed in ...All Users...Start MenuPrograms, but a folder named "Programs" doesn't show up among the other folders when I go to Start > Programs. Since I've never had any problems before with a sub folder by the same name as the folder above it in hierarchy, I'm thinking this might be a bug. When I check with Windows Explorer, the ...All Users...Start MenuProgramsPrograms folder is there along with all the shortcuts that have been put in it, but it's just not showing up on the Start menu. All the other folders I created such as Utilities, Graphics, Multimedia and Internet do show in Start > Programs along with all the shortcuts I put in them.

I have NOT had a good experience of MS tech support. After 18 months of endless problems with Windows VISTA Ultimate Edition V 6001 I now wish to reformat my computer and get RID of it altogether, replacing it with System 7 for which I have a serial number and a beta download from the recent Microsoft online download offer.
As VISTA seems to have eleminated DOS altogether and the old FDisk command doesn't work from a command line start, I have tried to reformat from my OEM Vista Ultimate Edition re-installation DVD which I am certain used to offer me reformat and partitioin delete as the first options but that no longer seems to offer me any reformat option at all and not only instists only on re-installing VISTA (which I no longer want) but leaves the old installation in a directory renamed "WindowsOld" which VISTA will then not allow me to delete....
I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.

1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.
I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.

Every game I play crashes, or fails to load at all, or gets into the game and crashes during map load. I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed. I have installed and re-installed the OS multiple times to no effect. I've downloaded all of the windows updates. 1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
i can't alt-tab out of a steam game, counter-strike. it's never done this before, and i'm trying to think of what i may have done for this to occur, but nothing comes to me. the only thing i can do to get out of the game is by quitting the game itself, or ctrl-alt-del to task manager. when i go to task manager, it says that the "aero" theme of vista isn't compatible with the game. like i said, it's never had this problem before.
