Start GoW The Game Immediately Drops To The Taskbar
Mar 23, 2008When I try to start GoW the game immediately drops to the taskbar! My mouse is frozen. I have a workaround but I would rather fix it right.

May 31, 2008So basically, a few weeks after i got Vista i tried to install Stellarium (freeware astronomy program), which crashed my computer. I restarted, and after typing in my password I get "My Documents" open on a black screen, nothing else, no taskbar or desktop icons or anything. When i try to open the "taskbar and start menu" icon in Control Panel, nothing happens. Also, when I Ctrl-Alt-Del the usual screen comes up, but the task manager is no longer an option, and i can't think of how to access it or my taskbar. I've installed all the servfice packs and they haven't helped.

Aug 14, 2009I'm new here and I'm not that knowledgeable about computers. My problem is that I have successfully installed Age of Empires 2 on my new laptop, but I am not able to even start the game. Whenever I press play on the game menu, it says that a problem has caused the program not to work correctly, and it closes. I'm running on Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. I already downloaded AOE2 update v2.0. I also tried changing compatibility, and reinstalling several times, but of no use. I have also tried running it as administrator, but I still get the same message.

Should it be necessary in the future for me to do a complete disc recovery will the support be discontinued? In the past, I have been able to do such a recovery using the installation disc that came with my Dell Computer and later I received the Service Packs as an upgrade. If it becomes advantageous to do a complete recovery, will I be out of luck without the Service Packs immediately available?

Oct 6, 2008When trying to connect to the internet I have to go through a series of operations, viz, start, connect to, dial, close and then finally load net. Sometimes however, as soon as I log on, a small window appears and I can connect immediately to the net via this. Is there any way that I can adjust my system to use this small window each time I want to connect?
After getting on to the net, as I try to go from one site to another, the small window appears and I have to reconnect to the internet. This has only started recently.
Hibernating Immediately After Waking From Hibernation
May 15, 2010Vista takes some time to wake from hibernation (2-3 minutes, before my wireless network is detected and browser is usable, say). To not waste my time staring at the screen, I hit the power button, leave the computer, and come back when all systems are running. However, by the time I've returned in maybe 5 mins, the laptop (Thinkpad T61) is back in hibernation mode. It seems like without any keyboard or trackpad input, the computer simply returns to hibernate. how to configure Vista to remain on without this keyboard input? I don't see any options in my power settings (in advanced as well). I also don't require a password upon wakeup, so I can go directly to my desktop.

May 16, 2008I have just reformatted my computer and had a clean install of Vista business and service Pack 1. Everything is running perfectly except for one "small" problem. For no reason whatever it seems Windows Explorer crashes and immediately starts up again.. I don't lose any information and everything appears to be normal after the restart except for the fact that my icons go to different places even inspired off "saving the icons".
All my drivers up to date, my BIOS is up-to-date and I can think of no reason why this should be happening. Nothing in particular seems to start it. It will sometimes happen when I click on icons or right click on the file that I want to delete etc
Keyboard & Mouse Freeze Immediately On Boot
Feb 12, 2010I've got a major problem on my home machine ... No new software or hardware additions in the last month. I re-booted after MS latest flurry of updates and it seemed to come up OK but BOTH the mouse and keyboard were frozen. No reponse whatsoever although I can see the desktop fine and the machine seems to be running. I determined this by trying to plug in a USB keyboard & mouse. Upon doing this, Vista beeped and recognized them & installed drivers, but they too were frozen. Thinking this could be a virus or malware problem, I tried booting to the NAV disk to try and scan, but instead of booting, I got a BSOD complaining about the file: rdacdisk.sys & the error that it unloaded with pending operations. Since the machine is a Fry's OEM box, it didn't come with a repair CD,
so I grabbed a spare disk & reloaded virgin vista to it. It booted fine & that's what I'm running on now. My original system disk looks fine.I then made a repair CD from the torrent file at neosmart.com. It too found no problems on my original system disk. The disk I used to reload vista is actually too small to load NAV, so I'm going to have to dig up something bigger if I want to scan it. Or move it to another system with NAV. Does any of this sound familiar or match a known problem ? I just realized that my above description was naccurate. When I plugged in the USB keyboard & mouse, things remained frozen because the OS popped up a box prompting me to install the drivers for the new devices. Without a keyboard or mouse, I couldn't tell it to proceed........

Mar 11, 2006first enable the "Run" button in the start menu in the "Taskbar Properties". here's a work around to Activate Vista Build 5219, 5231, 5270, 5308, (or earlier) and later maybe... Start > Run > msconfig > Permit Folder "Services"
uncheck the "Software Licensing Service"
uncheck the "SL UI Notification Service"
Apply Close Restart Your machine will then tell you, this machine is unlicensed! If this does not work for you there is also a CD Key circulating around which allows you to activate. PM a member to find out. I Havnt tried this personally since I already activated my copy legally, if anyone could try it and report back. But from the peopel who have they say it works.
Windows Explorer VERY Delayed!, Window Immediately Freezes
May 31, 2008Whenever I try to open any Windows Explorer program like My Computer, Control Panel, Recycle Bin, etc. the window immediately freezes (though nothing else on the PC freezes) and goes into a non-responsive state. If I just do other stuff for about 3-5 minutes the window will eventually open correctly, but this is obviously a problem.

Dec 18, 2007With my new Rig I get 5.9 all the way, exept RAM. I'm only getting a 5.6... I've got Corsair's Dominator and it's FSB is 1066. My M/Board has so many O/C tweeks that it's got me lost. Never thought I'd have too much controll over my BIOS, Anyway, the nForce 680i M/B has SLI O/C in the BIOS and when I disable it and try to squeeze a little more O/C out of my RAM it drops the 5.6 to 5.3! I guess I should have purchased RAM with 1333 FSB, then maybe I'd get a 5.9... Oh, if it helps, my RAM Timmings: 5,5,5,15 2T 2.3V If I set the Voltage at 2.1 the rating goes down to 5.4 I'm at a loss and I don't know why I care

Mar 25, 2008I'm experiencing frequent problems with my Internet Connection. My computer is connected to the Internet through a Motorola Surfboard modem from Charter Communications. My computer will randomly disconnect from the Internet around every hour. The modem still says that it is connected as will my computer if I go to the Network and Sharing Center. Even though the computer says that it is connected, no program can access the Internet. Anytime I open a Firefox it will usually say "Cannot Find Server" and Internet Explorer will just say that it cannot display the webpage. Sometimes I will get popups from Windows (I believe, though it could be FireFox) trying to connect to a broadband connection. It never works, though, and it asks for a password and username. I do not have one, though. I have not set up any sort of password for accessing any Internet connection on my computer. When I first upgraded computers all I had to do was plug in the cable modem and Vista automatically connected. It was perfect and I had no issues for quite a while. The connection dropped on day and Charter walked me through a process which reset my cable modem and got me back online. Ever since then I have been having this issue where my computer randomly loses it's connection. I was not able to get online for about an hour today. I did a System Restore to see if anyone had possibly done something, but the problem presisted. I came back later and now everything is running relatively fine!? It's like the computer has a mind of it's own.

Aug 21, 2008I've got a production network that I'm test Windows Vista x64 Enterprise on. I'm at my witts end with this problem: I add the Vista PC to the Windows domain. The computer performs the tasks and then tells me it needs to reboot. Upon rebooting it immeadiately drops itself from Active Directory (Windows 2003 SP2 R2 based domain).
Oddly, the computer account in active directory is still there. The Vista client drops itself, but the server side thinks everything is fine. What the heck is causing this? There are no issues with IPv4 connectivity. (We don't use IPv6...) The server shows that the PC and the users are connecting to the domain securely, and without issues (pass security audits). The Vista Client (Enterprise x64) just drops itself from Active Directory.
ISP: Connection Drops, Is It Hardware Or Software Issue?
Jun 6, 2009I have been having an intermittent range of internet connection problems with my computer running vista home premium over adsl. Initially my connection would drop out over night and in the early hours of the morning and if I browsed for too long /opened too many sites simultaneously my connection would cease to work. The internet would appear to be still connected in the MS icon in the tray (a globe showed over the two monitors). When I asked vista to check the connection/repair it told me that it was a connection with the ISP.
After a few frustrating weeks dealing with the ISP they admitted a fault and said they would fix it. My connection no longer drops out (I never lose the globe in the tray) but the problem where excessive www browsing stops the browser working. I have tried IE, Chrome, I have disabled my firewall, reset the network adapter, bought a new router, reset the old and new router but the problem persists.

Internet Lags and Drops; and it seemed the only solution was to Reboot my
Computer to get an Active Internet connection. I applied many of the
Hotfixes; and used all of the Suggestions but nothing seemed to work. The
one thing that did seem to make sense though was the Tech advice here and
their that would say it was a Hardware Issue with Routers, etc.
So this is what I did; I went out and Bought the D-Link DIR-655 which is
Certified to work with Vista. It arrived last week; hooked it up and since
then I have not had 1 Internet Drop; or have I lost my Home Network. Now my
Computer can stay on; go to sleep; and when it wakes I have an immediate
Internet Connection. On the Upside the speeds are much faster as well
instead of your basic 100mbps; im getting 300mbps. So it was well worth the
Upgrade to me. It actually made sense that to take advantage of some of the
new options with Vista Networking that you would need a New Certified Vista
Router. Im actually very glad I did it; no more headaches and reboots. Hope
this helps anyone who was going thru the same Issues I was.
Oh and by the way just so you know here is what I have going on with my
Network: My New PC; 2 Mac Books; 1 older PC; 1 Xbox; 1 PS3; and 1 Wii; and
the VOIP.
I also used to use the Hawking Booster on my Network to help with VOIP lag
and arranging packets; but I also elminate that now because this new Router
arranges the packets and no Lag on the VOIP.
