Missing String
Feb 5, 2009IDS_ALREADY_INSTALL_VER1_MSG1 string missing. I got this message while trying to install vista version of a program. The message also said "uninstall the old version", which is on xp I tried everything to uninstal the old one but failed even after I used "revo uninstaller" and "smarty uninstaller pro 2008".

Apr 15, 2008When UAC kicks in for some reason, you can optionally choose to view more details where that dialog displays what looks like a long hexadecimal string - I haven't confirmed whether it is valid hexadecimal. The point is, its probably some kind of ID for that particular instance of UAC kicking in. Why isn't that string selectable so that it can be copied to the clipboard? Is that string stored as part of a log that UAC maintains?

Feb 21, 2009I upgraded from XP Pro about a week ago and everything just died today after using RegCure to cleanup the registry. I used the startup repair which told me that the repair had to be done manually and I also removed all devices that were attached with USB. all to no avail.
I am running vista home premium 32bit on a AMD 4600+ duel 64bit processor with 2Gb of memory and a 120Gb 7200 maxtor HD.
Invalid Partition Table On Bootup
Jan 3, 2010I have a Toshiba Laptop which came pre-installed with Vista home. Lately, I have received an Invalid Partition Table on bootup. I tried using the recovery disk with the OS on it as a boot disk but it doesn't seem to be working even when I tell the bios to boot from CD/DVD.

Mar 23, 2008I have Windows Vista on a laptop and Windows XP on my desk. Both systems have been used for a Word document I've been working on.This Word document has a contents table and one other freestanding table. One of them has become corrupt -- I do not know which one. I see a discussion string about this, but the solution proposed there does not work for me. When I open the document, I get the error message about the corrupt file, but the cursor doesn't work, page down doesn't work, the down arrow doesn't work, the links above doesn't work. The moment I click on the document to get a cursor, Word no longer responds (I get the not responding message up top), and then it just sits there. If I click again anywhere, the document goes gray, and all I can do is close it.

Jan 14, 2009I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Vista home premium 64 bit sustem. The computor has worked fine until last week when it refused to boot. After the dell flash screen I get a black screen with a error message (invalid partition table) By pushing f12 i was able to run a diagnostics test that was normal. I took out the HD and connected it to another computor and was able to download my files and it also appeared to be working fine. Could this be the MBR or some other problem. Does anyone know of a good 3rd party disk to repair the MBR or the partition table?

The Ultimate machine has already installed SP1 (albeit unsuccessfully) but the Business machine (which is a Dell laptop) is still not seeing any update for SP1. do I have to do to get SP1 on this machine?

Sep 13, 2008I just built a new system and have a fresh copy of Vista Ultimate 64 installed. I've installed a few games and both games are giving 2 errors saying that "This application has failed to start because WINMM.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem". This pops up twice, and then the game starts and seems to work without any issues.

Aug 5, 2009I just installed a new game. Immediately upon attempting to run the game I get the following error message: d3dx9_40.dll was not found. After some searching around the web it was suggested that I update DirectX. However, it appears that I am running the most recent version, DirectX 10. I am reluctant to update something that appears to be up to date.
It is true that d3dx9_40.dll is missing, but some of the suggestions I found on the web indicate that I should not merely download this dll. I am not a big gamer, just wanted to look at this game, and am reluctant to spend hours and hours reconfiguring my system, but I would like to know why I am getting this error and why DirectX 10 doesn't include d3dx9_40.dll.I apologize if this is addressed elsewhere, I looked and didn't find anything that directly addresses this question.

Mar 23, 2008I am running VISTA Ultimate. After my computer is restarted the INTERNET can't be found until I restart my LINKSYS router. I never have to restart the router when my XP computers are restarted. I am connected to the router by network cable rather than wireless. Of course when I restart my router then the VISTA computer eventually finds the INTERNET. I would rather not restart my router every time the VISTA computer is rebooted.

Aug 16, 2009I downloaded a dll (Ssubtmr6.dll), placed the file in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder and then using the Run dialog, entered the command Regsvr32 "C:WindowsSystem32Ssubtmr6.dll" to register it. How To Initialize New HDD? Not Found Anywhere (as Admin).

Where is the tab/command to initialize (fdisk?) a new HDD?
I am logged in as Administrator (system says so) with full control/permission.
I can see the hard drives in the Device Manager/Disk Drives. All drives are "good" per the controller and I can see them as physical devices on the computer.
They all show as "Not Initialized" when I ask each to opopulate the Volumes info, and there is no obvious/apparent way to do it. Nothing on the controller shows it either.
Tried "Simple New Volume" under Disk Management--
doesn't/won't work because drive is not initialized.
One drive = one big partition = one drive letter.
AVG Found Trojan Horse

Of course I sent it to the Virus Vault. And I wondered why Real Player was just launching itself randomly.
My question is I cannot find the setup6.exe file. I guess it went to the vault? I am wondering if I should uninstall and re-install RealPlayer again?
What's the best rule of thumb to download with safety? I've heard of "mirror" sites?
