Corrupt Table In Word. File Not Usable.
Mar 23, 2008
I have Windows Vista on a laptop and Windows XP on my desk. Both systems have been used for a Word document I've been working on.This Word document has a contents table and one other freestanding table. One of them has become corrupt -- I do not know which one. I see a discussion string about this, but the solution proposed there does not work for me. When I open the document, I get the error message about the corrupt file, but the cursor doesn't work, page down doesn't work, the down arrow doesn't work, the links above doesn't work. The moment I click on the document to get a cursor, Word no longer responds (I get the not responding message up top), and then it just sits there. If I click again anywhere, the document goes gray, and all I can do is close it.

when i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

OS is Vista Enterprise
The problem happens with several applications, mostly with word 2007. every log says the fault is ntdll.dll
The file is present in C:windowssystem32
Any effort to change the fila with a new one tells me I have no rights (with both local admin account and enterprise domain admin account).
Trying to register ntdll.dll results with error message that dll or ocx file is missing or corrupt.
sfc /scannow in cmd gives no files with errors.

I'm running Vista on a Sony Vaio purchased new in 9/08. I have never had any problems until this morning. My husband used my pc this morning to go to Tax Brain, and on his log on there was a Adobe Update ready to download. When I went to log him off, I decided to download the update; then the update stopped saying that there was a corrupt file on it. So I logged off his side and signed into mine (btw, he has NO adminitrative rights), I then tried to open my Windows Live Mail...it then prompted me for a password, which it NEVER does because it's already saved. Then another alert came up that a file in live mail was corrupt; I freaked out and tried to access Norton (which is up to date) and it wouldn't let me. Next thing I know a blue screen comes up and says that windows is to be shut down to prevent damage; it suggested I restart the computer and try to open in safe mode and determine what files may be at fault. {Incidentally, yesterday Norton detected "Backdoor.Trojan" or something of that nature; I looked up the detail report and it said that it was blocked and fully removed from my system, and I was ablel to use the pc until 9pm with no problem - after booting up this morning is when the trouble began.} Ok, so I tried rebooting in each and every mode available on that inital error screen. The rebooting goes down all the drivers until it gets to crcdisk.sys...then it quits and gives me that damn blue screen again that advises me to try rebooting in safe mode. I cannot reboot at all.
Now, I have downloaded an iso file of Vista recovery to my thumb drive using the tutorial on this site; and I have plugged it into the pc upon startup...with same result as before. Nothing. I am not able to burn a DVD because the old laptop I'm on right now only has a CD-R and a DVD-Rom. I don't have any blank CD's here and my husband is at work; we're pressed for cash also...so I'm pretty screwed all the way around. To make matters worse, I have an assignment and my finals (I'm finishing school at 31) due today, tomorrow and this weekend. I don't have a vista recovery cd, none was provided when i bought my pc. And now i have absolutely no idea what to do.

when I try and log into my laptop, at the first screen where you see your user name and then you are asked to type your password, I type my password and get the following message: The file or directoryWindowsAppPatch is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
From looking at other threads they say go into the start menu etc... however I cant even get that far. The message for me appears at the initial startup screen when I select my user name and where i type in my password. I dont have a disc for Vista so i can't reinstall it.

I ran a sfcscan and... It seems I have some corrupt files. This laptop doesn't have a recovery/reformat drive or i'd just reformat the laptop. Moreover, I don't have a recovery disc for vista, just Win-7. Perhaps anyone can pinpoint me in the right direction? I have the CBS file... However it's close to 24MBs...

It just doesn't work.
I have a simple text file with a certain word in it.
I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it.
Windows 2000 finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work.
Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in
windows2000?

Vista Ultimate - 64 bit. In one of my folders, I have an extensive sub- folder tree which I'd like to print out as a Word file. Here's what I've done:
1. I click Start | Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt
2. Using the CD command, I get to the head folder of the desire sub-folder tree
3. If I then run the command "Tree", the sub-folder tree scrolls by quickly in the desired format - i.e., like a genealogy chart, with lines connecting the various levels.
But if I try to pipe the output to a text or Word file using the command tree>tree.txt or tree>.tree.doc, I get the tree. But the nice lines linking the various levels are replaced by a sequence of bogus characters. The maddening thing is that I was earlier able to get the nice chart into a Word document. But I neglected to record the steps, and can't reproduce them.

How can one convert the list of files in a folder, as shown on "View...List" in Explorer, to a Word Document without first capturing the screen, printing the image, then physically scanning the printed page, and finally utilizing the OCR program? I do not wish to retype the lists as text documents, which I nearly and effectively have to do when the OCR has been used previously in this manner. I have over 2,000 family photos that I have restored and "saved as..." with identifiying names and dates and need an editable list to be used by recipients of the copies that will be given. The photos were not tagged. Vista Home Premium and Office 2003 are being used.

I have been working on a chapter of my thesis, recently moving it all to my USB so I can work at uni too. Well, its totally disappeared, after I tried to save it tonight - it came up with an error, saying the file path was gone and that it would make a rescue save and close down! I tried to close everything else properly, but this one file just had the error message and I had to click ok.... and then it was completely gone. I wrote down the ~wrl file number, but searching for it yields nothing. There is one 'rescue file' but it has endnote reference coding (bibliographic software) and no text.
This isn't the first time this has happened, but the last time was years ago when Vista first came out and I learnt to put files on the C: to work one them - I forgot. I have recently changed my anti-virus software too, I've heard that can cause trouble. I have downloaded "Undelete" and it seems to be scanning forever. Before I googled I backed up my other chapters and emailed them to myself - but I backed them up (zipped to a folder) ON the USB, didn't realise that would be a bad idea, grr.

I have successfully installed my MSDN 64Bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate on a DELL Dimension 9100 PC. The problem I am having is with the RAM. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium (SP2), with 2 GB of RAM, Firefox, CA Security Suite, MBAB, SuperAntiSpyware Professional, Cleaner and Spybot search and destroy on an Acer Aspire T180 desktop. All WU's are current and the machine is working just great. About 6 months ago I noticed a reduction in the amount of usable installed emory. I have 2048 MB of installed RAM in 3 slots (512 MB, 512 MB and 1024
MB-with one slot empty), but only 1792 MB of usable memory. The usable installed/unusable installed difference is 256 MB. The difference may mean that some of it has gone bad or whatever. Is there anyway to ascertain why I'm not able to take advantage of the full 2024 MB of RAM? Is it possible one of the memory sticks is not plugged in correctly or there's a dirty contact somewhere? I realize that this may be a `don't fix it if it ain't broken' situation since the computer runs just fine but if there's something I can actually do to get back the missing 256 MB of RAM that'd be nice. I'm posting this here and also at: Microsoft.public.windows.vista.performance_maintenance since I'm not sure of the correct post location.

Suppose I open "C:fooar"; the Explorer window displays the contents of the "bar" folder. I want to get to the properties of folder "bar". Under XP, I could right-click on the icon in the window title bar and choose "Properties". Voil?, done. The icon has disappeared under Vista, but if you right- click there, you still get the system menu, but a crippled one with just Restore/Move/Size/Minimize/Maximize/Close

I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop with Vista home premium 64 bit sustem. The computor has worked fine until last week when it refused to boot. After the dell flash screen I get a black screen with a error message (invalid partition table) By pushing f12 i was able to run a diagnostics test that was normal. I took out the HD and connected it to another computor and was able to download my files and it also appeared to be working fine. Could this be the MBR or some other problem. Does anyone know of a good 3rd party disk to repair the MBR or the partition table?
