The Vista Upgrade Advisor tells me that I will have to uninstall Nero before upgrading to Vista. I have seen some posts in which writers complained that they were unable to re-install Nero after the installation. I thought that Vista has a built-in CD/DVD burner.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to uninstall nero 7, so I can puy nero 8 on. The installer keep crashing and won't let me uninstall 7. If i try installing nero 8, it gets to the part where it tells me it has to uninstall 7 first and then stops. If I go through the uninstall programe it is gathering information and then tells me the uninstall has stopped working and is sending a report.

According to the vista pages on the microsoft site, you cannot "upgrade" from
a 32bit XP to a 64bit vista, and must do a clean install, but it is ambiguous
as to what upgrade means. Does this mean that an original install version
(much more expensive) must be purchased, or can the upgrade version be used
on a clean hard drive as long as the XP key or whatever is put in to make it
recognize that you are upgrading?
Would I still be able to do the upgrade even though I was never able to get
SP 1 or SP 2 installed on my laptop?
I’m preparing to install Vista Premium on my custom built pc (already installed XP Pro a month ago), the specs are more than adequate for this OS but I’m concerned about what possible, perhaps unforeseen issues that may arise during this upgrade. So my question is, what issues might I encounter during the upgrade, and what precautions might I take to avoid such occurrences?

I currently have windows xp media center and am trying to upgrade to vista home premium using the upgrade version. Basically whenever I get to 27% of the 'expanding files' process on the installation i get a message which says 'windows cannot prepare the computer to boot ino the next phase of installation. to complete installation, please restart the wizard' or words to that effect.... I have tried opting for a clean install or an upgrade and get the same problems every time. I have run the upgrade advisor and it says everything is fine apart from my network card which needs the 'driver'

View 5 Replies View RelatedI got a computer in Dec of 2006. 3 months later a Vista upgrade disk came in the mail. I have had it ever since. I use this computer to store stuff and try new programs ect. I am wondering how much I will regret upgrading with this free disk. The system has a Pentuim 4 3.1 G CPU and only 512MB of RAM. I would really like to put vista on it but....512 MB of ram is not the 1GB they recommend. Is anyone running a system like this? What will happen? Will it just run slow and not have Aero because the graphics are not up to par either or will there be other problems?

I've worked in IT for awhile now and seen some great improvements in operating systems over the years. Upgrading from 2000 to XP, there was a clear benefit, but I can't see one from XP to vista. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with vista, but I don't want to have to go through the hassle of imaging about 2,500 workstations if i don't have to.

While in Home Premium, I insert and run the VISTA Ultimate CD Select upgrade I have it connected to internet so it can retrieve updates. It goes though the process of upgrading but ends with a message similar to Windows could not configure one or more system components. It then reverts back to Home Premium. I have tried performing the upgrade both before and after installing updates to Home Premium- no difference..........

On the SATA 2 HD opensuse linux 11.1 is installed. When I booted for the first time the Asus M3N-HT Deluxe Series the Windows Vista Home Premium ran well, and I did not have any problems reactivating the operating system. I did had problems with opensuse linux 11.1, but after reinstalling it again on the second HD drive it also works well. I bought a Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit Installation DVD, but I cannot install it. How can I uninstall Windows Vista Premium 32-bit so that the new 64-bit version will install properly on the SATA 1 HD?

Shortly after first purchasing it, I installed it as a secondary OS via Apples Boot Camp utility onto an iMac Aluminum. Later on, I obtained a new Gateway notebook that came with Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) pre-installed. Wishing to replace the 64-bit pre-installed version of Windows Home Premium with a freshly installed 32-bit version, I did so using the aforementioned legally obtained retail disc without error. When the time came to activate windows on the new notebook, I was informed that I would have to either purchase a secondary license for the product or activate the product through Microsofts phone activation service. I chose the latter and Vista was up and running with a successful activation soon after. Unbeknownst to me and pointed out later by a friend, this was apparently an illegal means of activating my copy of Vista Home Premium on the new notebook because the Vista EULA specifically denotes that only one computer may be graced with this licensed copy at any time. I am concerned about the legality and/or consequences of this, even though I explained the situation to Microsoft during the activation process and the representative I was speaking with did not seem to have an issue with it. Does anyone have any insight on this? Should I uninstall Vista from my iMac so that only my new notebook is running the licensed copy? I have talked with Microsoft support about this and they succeeded only in confusing me further.

I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Somehow the 'uninstall' button disappeared for most programs on my Vista Home Premium box when I used Control Pannel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program. A few programs still have 'uninstall' button available - those have 'installed on' showing. The rest (80+% of all)don't have 'installed on' values showing and don't have 'uninstall' button.

I have tried various attempts and not getting anywhere. Need quick steps what I need to do to get the file to play on a DVD disk? In Nero, I am selecting Make Video CD option. I then Add the WMV File, which it analyzes and I select the DVD/RW...option (not Image Recorder). It then begins encoding but it then spits the DVD/RW disk out saying the compilation cannot be written to this type of disk.
