I just recently upgraded to Windows Vista. All my olf files were saved to a folder on the same computer. How do I reinstall these programs such as Nortan Internet Sevurity? I tried to use Windows easy transfer but you can only do it from one computer to another and not from the same computer?

a 32bit XP to a 64bit vista, and must do a clean install, but it is ambiguous
as to what upgrade means. Does this mean that an original install version
(much more expensive) must be purchased, or can the upgrade version be used
on a clean hard drive as long as the XP key or whatever is put in to make it
recognize that you are upgrading?
Would I still be able to do the upgrade even though I was never able to get
SP 1 or SP 2 installed on my laptop?
I’m preparing to install Vista Premium on my custom built pc (already installed XP Pro a month ago), the specs are more than adequate for this OS but I’m concerned about what possible, perhaps unforeseen issues that may arise during this upgrade. So my question is, what issues might I encounter during the upgrade, and what precautions might I take to avoid such occurrences?

I currently have windows xp media center and am trying to upgrade to vista home premium using the upgrade version. Basically whenever I get to 27% of the 'expanding files' process on the installation i get a message which says 'windows cannot prepare the computer to boot ino the next phase of installation. to complete installation, please restart the wizard' or words to that effect.... I have tried opting for a clean install or an upgrade and get the same problems every time. I have run the upgrade advisor and it says everything is fine apart from my network card which needs the 'driver'

I use this computer to store stuff and try new programs ect. I am wondering how much I will regret upgrading with this free disk. The system has a Pentuim 4 3.1 G CPU and only 512MB of RAM. I would really like to put vista on it but....512 MB of ram is not the 1GB they recommend. Is anyone running a system like this? What will happen? Will it just run slow and not have Aero because the graphics are not up to par either or will there be other problems?

I've worked in IT for awhile now and seen some great improvements in operating systems over the years. Upgrading from 2000 to XP, there was a clear benefit, but I can't see one from XP to vista. While in Home Premium, I insert and run the VISTA Ultimate CD Select upgrade I have it connected to internet so it can retrieve updates. It goes though the process of upgrading but ends with a message similar to Windows could not configure one or more system components. It then reverts back to Home Premium. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv6 1140ea. It is able to upgrade to Windows 7. I downloaded Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor Version 1.0 and all softwares were compatbile. Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor 2.0 was released, I got it. I did a scan if anything was compatible. In 4 programs it said 'Before Upgrading to Windows 7, we reccomend unistalling this program. It can safely reinstalled after the upgrade'. And I know that they will work on Windows 7. But other people don't bother reinstalling, they just upgrade simply, I don't want to reinstall the programs again as they are compatible with Windows 7.
Even HP said that the software are compatible and you can upgrade just like that. I got two softwares that are ATI Catalyst Install Manager and Catalyst Control Centre, now I don't know were to download them off. I don't want to reinstall the programs, do I have to reinstall it, even though it is recommened?

I recently bought a computer with xp pro x64 and was wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to vista 32 bit with a standard vista home basic (or premium, whatever) upgrade version. The reason for this is I intended this computer to be used for home recording projects and Pro Tools (recording program) does not support xp x64 or vista x64, and it doesn't look like it will any time soon. So these are my questions:
-Will I need to do a clean install and still be able to use a vista upgrade version?
-Will I have to get a full new version of vista?
-Is it even possible?
I have just bought a HP notebook which has Vista Home premium 32bit O/S with Service pack 1. I tried upgrading this to Vista Ultimate with the Upgrade DVD. After entering the product key, I opted for the upgrade, after a while a message came up saying that the upgrading is disabled. I read somewhere that this trouble might have been caused by SP 1. So, one has to delete the SP1 and then upgrade. I looked into the add/remove programmes in the control panel, but there is no SP1 in the list.
