I am using Vista Ultimate with a wireless mouse and I need the HID Non-user Input Data Filter update to fix the screen saver problems. When I go to Windows update, this optional update is not available. I have tried everywhere to find this update.

I have tried Orphcrack on the system but it's not showing any passwords. The user tells me the system has been acting odd for some time now and - of course - he does not have a backup and to make it worse his tax information is on the system so he had to file an extension to get time for me to do this recovery and restore. I need to pull his files from the system to wipe, perform a clean install, setup his account and restore his files.

I plan to partition its HD using a tool like pmagic. Partition C will have the OS. The new partition D will be for user data.
I would like to move the /user folder that contains users files (e.g., documents, audio, video, downloads, etc) to the new partition D. (This is how I maintained my many XP systems: alluser data, except settings, were on partition D).
What is the most optimal approach? I have read Microsoft article73760 entitled "Managing Roaming User Data Deployment Guide."
I run on Windows Vista Business x64 SP1. I was updating a while back, and an update failed with an error code. So I followed the error code in Windows Help and Support, and it asked me to delete all the updates in my update folder and then try updating again. I did that, and now update gives me the 80070424 code, which is access denied.
So, here are the solutions I tried: sfc /scannow (cmd prompt was in admin) It does find corrupt files, except it can't start Windows Repair Service to repair it. So I tried going into Services.msc to turn Windows Modules Installer to Manual. However, since I technically "never updated", that is not in Services..................
After posting my original thread and noting probs with start up repair, my local computer man has said he has had a few people with problems with their computers and that he can fix if if i bring it in - this will not involve losing all my data either. So as I know how good he is i will be taking it in for repair. Check out your local repair centres for help. He also advised me never to accept any updates from vista!! How come Microsoft have not even acknowledged there is a problem with these updates yet? Where is their moral responsibility?

Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. I have tried to get help from CISCO, it is impossible. All I wanted was the link to download the Update and all they wanted was a contract number. I don't even know what this program does...it may be the wireless Password Security? View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is doing so weird and wild stuff, and I'd much rather take care of this problem myself (with the help of the internet, of course) than take it to a rotund egghead who will probably press three buttons, fix it completely, and charge me five hundred dollars. So here's the deal: First, when I was to click on, say, a Picture folder, the folder will load up but all the thumbnailed images of all my pictures will be the same stock Windows image. Like, I can't preview any of my pictures by looking at their thumbnails anymore. So that was a problem, and it's still a problem. Haven't fixed that one. Now recently, when I want to open a program, say Itunes or Firefox, instead of doing exactly that, it takes me to a Windows 'Open With' subscreen and asks me with WHICH program I'd like to open....the program I'd like to open. It's maddening.
My Macafee isn't opening any more. I just did a Dell System Update last night but it said it didn't find anything. I ran an Ad-Aware that didn't find anything. And to top it all off, for some reason my computer simply cannot check for new Windows Updates.I have no idea what's going on. Oh and if it matters my keyboard is all wonky. Not that that's an issue anybody here can help me with but I thought I'd mention it. My laptop is only a year or so old so I'm not sure why it's having all these issues. Oh and I don't know what kind of Vista I have. 32? 64? How do I find that out? heart and soul for any assistance anyone can give.
I couldn't find a newsgroup that was English Windows updates, so since most updates involve security issues I guess I will vent here. This is the second time in about two months that my Vista Home Premium 32 bit desktop computer has been stuck in Update hell. It was perfectly fine all day yesterday and then when I started it this morning, it went to the green and blue screen "Configuring Updates State 3 of 3 0% complete Do not turn off your computer" and then it restarts, only to return to that exact same screen.
After watching it do that at least six times I finally turned it off. It took me about 14 more tries to get to start in a "safe" or "repair" mode which it is in now, still being "repaired." That was two hours ago. When this happened last time it was at the exact same point with the 3 of 3 screen. It seems that the only solution to this would be to turn off automatice updates and check for them and install them when my computer is not coming out of a cold start. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a better solution to avoid this than turning off automatice updates?
Are there any Newsgroup filter addons. The one built in is quite poor & still downloads the message headers from people you filter. I've tried thunderbird but you can't apply filters to messages you have already downloaded and can't reset the server like you can in windows mail.

It seems to be connected but no page can be loaded. At first when I diagnosed and repaired it said that there is no problem, but it still wouldn't load any pages. Now when I do a diagnose and repair it says something about the filter query policy being changed and to check my firewall setting.

I guess it's part of 3 Vista "Services" which mostly have to do with indexing. Is this so that Vista can so quickly find files? Is that all it's for? If so, I should be able to permanently block it without any problems, right?
I really don't need Vista to be able to find everything within 2 seconds. I don't look for things that often and when I do I have a pretty good filing system and can get to them on my own pretty quickly.
People are reporting that these 3 services in the article linked above seem to take up a lot of processor power, too.
So has anyone blocked this? What is the best way to do it, and what is the outcome? Will Vista still be able to find things, only a bit slower, or what?
I think that Microsoft Windows Vista mail Junk filter should first look into defined rules before moving emails into Junk folder.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to permanently disable the Junk E-Mail filter in Windows Mail on Vista, but no matter what I try to do it still moves email to the "Junk Email" folder. This wouldn't be so bad if it were any good at it, but the problem is it moves a LOT of legitimate email. I have missed some very important emails because they are moved to junk. My ISP has a spam filter which is pretty close to perfect (Ironport), so I don't really get spam. I have set to "No Automatic Filtering" in options. I have disabled phishing filter in Internet Options and in Windows Mail. I have deleted all block lists etc.

Any idea what might be causing the problem? Office SP2 and Vista SP2 installations worked as a charm, no issues. Could I plug a s/pdif coaxial into the DAT input from my soundcards s/pdif coaxial out? The amp has an optical in toslink also but the onboard sound from my motherboard only has a s/pdif coaxial out. It's a digital amplifier even tho it's an old amp. It's in great condition and sounds just as good as it looks for it's age. I think it would do a better job than the onboard sound if i passed it through to the amp to deal with.

Through the wizard I selected uninstall then quick option. It required a restart but I manually restarted later and noticed that the monitor is not displaying anything after windows boot up is complete.(BIOS and windows loading bar is displayed properly) How can i get the image on my monitor?

Even, I input the userID and password. It still pop up again and again.
I need to remove the POP3 mail accout and re-add it again return normal.
However, it happen again few days onward.
i am unable to get to password input. i am stuck at the loading screen with the little bars scrolling through....that is the furthest i have gotten.when i try and boot from safe mode it starts normally, stops midway, blue screen. when i try to boot from vista disk i get to the vista background and thats it
