i perform the window update for my PC, i notice that a huge number of space is taken up. How can i view the updated file and delete the unnecessary ones? I can't find the update file. I try to perform this:C:WINDOWSSoftwareDistributionDataStore" Delete "DataStore.edb".

I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
Trying to open a Word file, get message "Windows can't find so-and-so file". Similarly, trying to open it programmatically in Excel VBA, I get the same message. But if I right-click and select "Open with" and pick Microsoft Windows, it works.

Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. I have tried to get help from CISCO, it is impossible. All I wanted was the link to download the Update and all they wanted was a contract number. I don't even know what this program does...it may be the wireless Password Security? It should not be this difficult, I need to update PEAP and I have spent many hours at the Cisco site and Internet searches and have been unable to find the download that will update Cisco PEAP Module to a version that is Compatible with Windows 7. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is doing so weird and wild stuff, and I'd much rather take care of this problem myself (with the help of the internet, of course) than take it to a rotund egghead who will probably press three buttons, fix it completely, and charge me five hundred dollars. So here's the deal: First, when I was to click on, say, a Picture folder, the folder will load up but all the thumbnailed images of all my pictures will be the same stock Windows image. Like, I can't preview any of my pictures by looking at their thumbnails anymore. So that was a problem, and it's still a problem. Haven't fixed that one. Now recently, when I want to open a program, say Itunes or Firefox, instead of doing exactly that, it takes me to a Windows 'Open With' subscreen and asks me with WHICH program I'd like to open....the program I'd like to open. It's maddening.
My Macafee isn't opening any more. I just did a Dell System Update last night but it said it didn't find anything. I ran an Ad-Aware that didn't find anything. And to top it all off, for some reason my computer simply cannot check for new Windows Updates.I have no idea what's going on. Oh and if it matters my keyboard is all wonky. Not that that's an issue anybody here can help me with but I thought I'd mention it. My laptop is only a year or so old so I'm not sure why it's having all these issues. Oh and I don't know what kind of Vista I have. 32? 64? How do I find that out? heart and soul for any assistance anyone can give.
I am using Vista Ultimate with a wireless mouse and I need the HID Non-user Input Data Filter update to fix the screen saver problems. When I go to Windows update, this optional update is not available. I have tried everywhere to find this update.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI couldn't find a newsgroup that was English Windows updates, so since most updates involve security issues I guess I will vent here. This is the second time in about two months that my Vista Home Premium 32 bit desktop computer has been stuck in Update hell. It was perfectly fine all day yesterday and then when I started it this morning, it went to the green and blue screen "Configuring Updates State 3 of 3 0% complete Do not turn off your computer" and then it restarts, only to return to that exact same screen.
After watching it do that at least six times I finally turned it off. It took me about 14 more tries to get to start in a "safe" or "repair" mode which it is in now, still being "repaired." That was two hours ago. When this happened last time it was at the exact same point with the 3 of 3 screen. It seems that the only solution to this would be to turn off automatice updates and check for them and install them when my computer is not coming out of a cold start. Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a better solution to avoid this than turning off automatice updates?
issue started today, when I go to print a page or anything off the internet explorer I get an error message. Error message is " [Window Title] Windows Internet Explorer [Content] Cannot find 'file:///C:/Users/username/AppData/Local/Temp/Low/CJ30HFE8.htm'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct. [OK] When I go to a different website to see if I could print that I get same erorr but with a different .htm file. The printer I have is a Lexmark x8350

I copy the filename exactly and then paste it in the search box on the start button. Vista says there are no such files. Meanwhile I'm looking at at least one copy of the file in another window?
How can I search my entire harddrive for a file since the old XP search seems to have been removed?
i was on a divx streaming site, watching a video and as the video finishes buffering i right click and go to "save video as" i then save the file (to my desktop, not a hidden folder or a protected operating folder) the file saves ok and the size of my c:/ drive goes down, so i know its on my laptop but when i close everything and go to desktop the file is not there! i've searched for it on my drive but the search doesnt find the file! i've tried saving the file to other folders (my documents, downloads etc)
i go back to the site and buffer the video again and right click, "save video as" again and in the browse window I SEE THE FILE!! (it also asks if i want to overwrite/replace the file) but still i dont see the file on my actual desktop or folder i saved it to! it isnt another users desktop its been saved to or some hidden folder, its my main desktop i am the only user on this laptop i've searched for viruses and such and tried alot of option changes but still dont find the file! i try to copy the file from the "save as" box but it says it cant or cant find the file (it is there because the size of my drive goes down and the file is visible in "save as" box) i've also tried to play the said divx file from the "save as" box but it still says it cant find the file

View 6 Replies View RelatedI export a datafile from the internet and save it as an excel file. I click on browse and save it to users/name/mydocuments/directory. Then I go look for the file but cannot find it. I re-download it but keeps telling me that the file already exists, so I put a 2 at the end of the file name. Save that. Then I cannot find the first and second file.
I am logged on as the administrator. There are no other users on the computer except for a asp.net user. I am using Office 2003. There are no 2007 version loaded on the machine. Vista is Home Premium 32 bit I think. This also happened on my PC which has the same version of Vista.
Vista Home Premium 2. New system board and processor. Won't boot. An i7 950 and gigabyte board with high speed 1600 memory. Doing repair doesn't work. Reports something wron with system timings/speed etc. as well could be. Memory folks (OCR) ask me to run memtest400 (it passed all the vista diagnostics).
In install I go to command prompt and try to run mt400.exe. It says, "The system can not find the file." If I do dir e:mt400.exe it fins it just dandy. I tried copying it to a number of other places but get the same response. Even copied it to the loading directory under a number of folders. Now what? Is it impossible to run exe files in vista installer?
It just doesn't work.

This syntax works if I am in the directory where the files are located: Copy *.csv Prices.txt But if I am in another folder and try to put a path to it like copy C:FinanceMutual FundsGet Prices*.csv Prices.txt It always says it cannot find the file. I KNOW the location IS correct. Is there some error in the syntax that can cause this?

have home premium 32bit. When trying to download 15 day trial web i get the pop up widow to allow however the file listed is dfsvc.exe and not the program file. The program owner and I have tried to find the error but can't. Have scaneed withe AVG,Spybot and a couple of online programs and all say no threat. Using regedit I can't find this dfsvc file. To see if this problem would repeat I downloaded a board game and no problem.

Verify that the file exists exists in your system and that you have sufficient permissions to update it. I have tried to open the cd and run it as an administrator and that did not work either. Since this is a new laptop, the trial version for 2007 was installed but i believe i removed it. I know this was a post long ago but I still can not get this to work. SP1 is installed on this laptop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista on a Sony Vaio purchased new in 9/08. I have never had any problems until this morning. My husband used my pc this morning to go to Tax Brain, and on his log on there was a Adobe Update ready to download. When I went to log him off, I decided to download the update; then the update stopped saying that there was a corrupt file on it. So I logged off his side and signed into mine (btw, he has NO adminitrative rights), I then tried to open my Windows Live Mail...it then prompted me for a password, which it NEVER does because it's already saved. Then another alert came up that a file in live mail was corrupt; I freaked out and tried to access Norton (which is up to date) and it wouldn't let me. Next thing I know a blue screen comes up and says that windows is to be shut down to prevent damage; it suggested I restart the computer and try to open in safe mode and determine what files may be at fault. {Incidentally, yesterday Norton detected "Backdoor.Trojan" or something of that nature; I looked up the detail report and it said that it was blocked and fully removed from my system, and I was ablel to use the pc until 9pm with no problem - after booting up this morning is when the trouble began.} Ok, so I tried rebooting in each and every mode available on that inital error screen. The rebooting goes down all the drivers until it gets to crcdisk.sys...then it quits and gives me that damn blue screen again that advises me to try rebooting in safe mode. I cannot reboot at all.
Now, I have downloaded an iso file of Vista recovery to my thumb drive using the tutorial on this site; and I have plugged it into the pc upon startup...with same result as before. Nothing. I am not able to burn a DVD because the old laptop I'm on right now only has a CD-R and a DVD-Rom. I don't have any blank CD's here and my husband is at work; we're pressed for cash also...so I'm pretty screwed all the way around. To make matters worse, I have an assignment and my finals (I'm finishing school at 31) due today, tomorrow and this weekend. I don't have a vista recovery cd, none was provided when i bought my pc. And now i have absolutely no idea what to do.
i have had problems with vista ultimate 64-bit and sp1 you can read any of my posts on that and some others as well here is my question : i am going to get a new hdd from wd they feel mine is defective but when i do this and install vista ultimate 64-bit on the new drive i want to make sure i d/l Microsoft updates/files/programs for vista in correct order so i can install SP1 before install any other program IS THERE A CORRECT ORDER for updates/files before i install sp1 need to know before i do anything p.s. if there is anything i need to know please let me know

This does not appear to have solved my problem as I have to save the attachments and open from the saved file. This works OK, but I want to open direct from the mail attachments just for convenience.

(1) A reset of IE did not fix the problem.
(2) A system restore to the day before installing QuickTime did fix the problem. This doesn't prove that QuickTime is at fault, of course, but I still have my suspicions. I will probably reload QuickTime shortly, and if the problem returns, I'll post it.
Note: It appears that the system restore reversed the IE reset, so for anyone (like me) who might be nervous about doing the reset, the restore is a safety backup.
