View 5 RepliesI have read elsewhere that the files saved from a Firefox download can't be found using the Vista search tool. Sure enough, now on my second day using Vista 64-bit, am am seeing the same result .... do i have an incorrect setting somewhere?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
Downloading EXE files and what I assume are EXE files (Flash Viewer update, Java update, etc.) stops after a short amount of progress. There's no warning message, no error message, no clue at all given by the OS; the progress bar just...stops. It waits patiently, even if I cannot. It'll stay there all day if I let it.
Replication: It's inconsistent in that some EXEs do download just fine, but consistent in that the same EXE files always freeze. Consequently, I don't have the latest Java updates, Flash Viewer updates, and more, and I can't download Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live Messenger. The latest problem: I can't play my new game, Company of Heroes, until the in-game patch downloader installs the latest patch. Problem is, it freezes............
Trying to open a Word file, get message "Windows can't find so-and-so file". Similarly, trying to open it programmatically in Excel VBA, I get the same message. But if I right-click and select "Open with" and pick Microsoft Windows, it works.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I sent out an email to many addresses at the same time, it showed error and showed the email address that it would not send to. I deleted that one from the list, resent, and it showed another. Eventually it came down to my own email address that I had cc'd to. Hmpf....question, did it send to all the ok addresses? or is it waiting for me to delete the bad ones one at a time as it shows them to me?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI get an error message when I try to email a photo from any source as an attatchment from Windows Photo gallery or any location that lets you email a picture. This is the error message I got: The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'EmailingSC00628(1),account Protocol:SMTP, Port 25,Secure(SSL): No, socket error 10061 error number:Ox800 CCCOE
Why isn't there a way windows could give us a list of all the error numbers and ways to correct the problems. I have spent countless hours jumping from one place to another to solve my problem. I hope there is someone out there to HELP me. I believe my problem is when I set up, it asked the question"SERVER" and I did not understand what they wanted and I listed who my ISP was.but do not know how to get back to that page to see if I could make a correction
issue started today, when I go to print a page or anything off the internet explorer I get an error message. View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista Ultimate, Windows Live Mail and Word 2000. I can not email a displayed document directly from Word. The email icon is greyed out. I would prefer to not have to move to a later version of Word as with all Microsoft products MS seems intent on taking things that were simple and making them aggrivatingly complicated and annoying. My kingdom for a 'Don't Think For Me' button.
1) Is there a way to be able to email (not as an attachment) from Word 2000 in my environment (using Windows Live Mail).
2) Which versions of Word can you email from using Windows Live Mail? For example, if I upgrade to Word 2007 can I then email? Or from Wird 2008?
I really need this feature as it is a backbone of our internal documentation and reporting system.... I will suffer a Word upgrade if I have to, but just want to make sure it will work before I take the plunge.
I have a file in my appdata folder that I'd like to check and see if duplicates exist in other (sub) folders. I copy the filename exactly and then paste it in the search box on the start button. Vista says there are no such files. Meanwhile I'm looking at at least one copy of the file in another window?
How can I search my entire harddrive for a file since the old XP search seems to have been removed?
i perform the window update for my PC, i notice that a huge number of space is taken up. How can i view the updated file and delete the unnecessary ones? I can't find the update file. I try to perform this:C:WINDOWSSoftwareDistributionDataStore" Delete "DataStore.edb".

View 6 Replies View RelatedI export a datafile from the internet and save it as an excel file. I click on browse and save it to users/name/mydocuments/directory. Then I go look for the file but cannot find it. I re-download it but keeps telling me that the file already exists, so I put a 2 at the end of the file name. Save that. Then I cannot find the first and second file.
I am logged on as the administrator. There are no other users on the computer except for a asp.net user. I am using Office 2003. There are no 2007 version loaded on the machine. Vista is Home Premium 32 bit I think. This also happened on my PC which has the same version of Vista.
Vista Home Premium 2. New system board and processor. Won't boot. An i7 950 and gigabyte board with high speed 1600 memory. Doing repair doesn't work. Reports something wron with system timings/speed etc. as well could be. Memory folks (OCR) ask me to run memtest400 (it passed all the vista diagnostics).
In install I go to command prompt and try to run mt400.exe. It says, "The system can not find the file." If I do dir e:mt400.exe it fins it just dandy. I tried copying it to a number of other places but get the same response. Even copied it to the loading directory under a number of folders. Now what? Is it impossible to run exe files in vista installer?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI realize this may be off topic but I don't find any place to post it. I am trying to do a DOS coy command that combines a number of files into single one. This syntax works if I am in the directory where the files are located: Copy *.csv Prices.txt But if I am in another folder and try to put a path to it like copy C:FinanceMutual FundsGet Prices*.csv Prices.txt It always says it cannot find the file. I KNOW the location IS correct. Is there some error in the syntax that can cause this?

View 4 Replies View RelatedContact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment.
However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the "E-mail" button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back. It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while.
Why can't I search and find all locations of a specific file extension? I used to be able to do that! When I try it now it only allows the search in one directory!
I'm not new to windows or computers.
have home premium 32bit. When trying to download 15 day trial web i get the pop up widow to allow however the file listed is dfsvc.exe and not the program file. View 8 Replies View RelatedThere are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
View 6 Replies View Relatedthis is the second time I can't delete a 0 kb file off my desktop. Vista tells me that it doesn't exist, but it's there on my desktop. I've tried several things, restarting, deleting in safe mode, deleting via cmd (as administrator), deleting as another user and lots more. And unfortunately Unlocker doesn't support Vista 64.
Last time it happened I successfully deleted it in the cmd, but this time it simply won't. I wanted to try to take ownership, but I don't know how to write space in the file name (when deleting I use "", but it can't do so when taking ownership).
I have Vista Home Premium. When I download items from the internet, they seem to go nowhere. I select a location, the dialogue box shows it downloading, then the dialogue box disappears and I cannot find the files.
Does anyone know where they might go?
