May 2, 2009Does Vista Basic generate an incoming and outgoing Intrenet traffic log file? And if so where might I find it?

Monitoring Internet Traffic
Mar 27, 2008Is there any way to monitor internet traffic. I am interested in seeing what programs are using the internet. When I boot my machine I notice internet activity on the DSL box. Since I haven't started any programs I am wondering what is using the internet before I do. I can only assume that things like Windows Update are checking stuff as well as other programs unbeknownst to me. Running Vista Home Premium.

Mar 23, 2008I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.
Block Outgoing Traffic
Oct 12, 2009I connect through a dial-up connection. My windows firewall is turned off. I would like to be able to block all outgoing traffic at any given time. In windows 2000 I did this with the command: route delete 0.0.0.0 After I type this command there is no traffic going out. On my Vista machine however there is a wanarp.sys process that keeps sending outgoing traffic for 20 seconds after i type the above command. I need to make this stop.

I then typed all the settings in a text file. So if I lost a connection, I could manually enter all the settings without needing to insert the BT installation CD. I changed to Vista at the same time that I changed to Orange Broadband (4-user wireless). The connection was set up by CD from one laptop. The other laptop just connected itself by magic, using a LAN cable.

Mar 23, 2008where to find the temp internet Video file stored on the PC while browsing the internet. I was watching video's from I tube site when i click on some video it gets downloaded on the pc and then plays. I want to know in which folder these files gets stored in Windows Vista.

I copy the filename exactly and then paste it in the search box on the start button. Vista says there are no such files. Meanwhile I'm looking at at least one copy of the file in another window?

Nov 29, 2009i was on a divx streaming site, watching a video and as the video finishes buffering i right click and go to "save video as" i then save the file (to my desktop, not a hidden folder or a protected operating folder) the file saves ok and the size of my c:/ drive goes down, so i know its on my laptop but when i close everything and go to desktop the file is not there! i've searched for it on my drive but the search doesnt find the file! i've tried saving the file to other folders (my documents, downloads etc)
i go back to the site and buffer the video again and right click, "save video as" again and in the browse window I SEE THE FILE!! (it also asks if i want to overwrite/replace the file) but still i dont see the file on my actual desktop or folder i saved it to! it isnt another users desktop its been saved to or some hidden folder, its my main desktop i am the only user on this laptop i've searched for viruses and such and tried alot of option changes but still dont find the file! i try to copy the file from the "save as" box but it says it cant or cant find the file (it is there because the size of my drive goes down and the file is visible in "save as" box) i've also tried to play the said divx file from the "save as" box but it still says it cant find the file

Mar 29, 2008I export a datafile from the internet and save it as an excel file. I click on browse and save it to users/name/mydocuments/directory. Then I go look for the file but cannot find it. I re-download it but keeps telling me that the file already exists, so I put a 2 at the end of the file name. Save that. Then I cannot find the first and second file.
I am logged on as the administrator. There are no other users on the computer except for a asp.net user. I am using Office 2003. There are no 2007 version loaded on the machine. Vista is Home Premium 32 bit I think. This also happened on my PC which has the same version of Vista.
System Can Not Find The File
Nov 9, 2009Vista Home Premium 2. New system board and processor. Won't boot. An i7 950 and gigabyte board with high speed 1600 memory. Doing repair doesn't work. Reports something wron with system timings/speed etc. as well could be. Memory folks (OCR) ask me to run memtest400 (it passed all the vista diagnostics).
In install I go to command prompt and try to run mt400.exe. It says, "The system can not find the file." If I do dir e:mt400.exe it fins it just dandy. I tried copying it to a number of other places but get the same response. Even copied it to the loading directory under a number of folders. Now what? Is it impossible to run exe files in vista installer?

This syntax works if I am in the directory where the files are located: Copy *.csv Prices.txt But if I am in another folder and try to put a path to it like copy C:FinanceMutual FundsGet Prices*.csv Prices.txt It always says it cannot find the file. Download Issue:Using Regedit Can't Find Dfsvc File
May 1, 2008have home premium 32bit. When trying to download 15 day trial web i get the pop up widow to allow however the file listed is dfsvc.exe and not the program file. The program owner and I have tried to find the error but can't. Have scaneed withe AVG,Spybot and a couple of online programs and all say no threat. Using regedit I can't find this dfsvc file. To see if this problem would repeat I downloaded a board game and no problem.

About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

Jun 11, 2008this is the second time I can't delete a 0 kb file off my desktop. Vista tells me that it doesn't exist, but it's there on my desktop. I've tried several things, restarting, deleting in safe mode, deleting via cmd (as administrator), deleting as another user and lots more. And unfortunately Unlocker doesn't support Vista 64.
Last time it happened I successfully deleted it in the cmd, but this time it simply won't. I wanted to try to take ownership, but I don't know how to write space in the file name (when deleting I use "", but it can't do so when taking ownership).

Apr 1, 2008After fighting to get rid of a Trojan horse virus, I am missing the internet browser. E-mail works OK. Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message 'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean.
