I failed to flash my BIOS through Windows Vista 64 (Asus Update), now the update program cannot see any BIOS, so on attempting to start the PC again, I think it will be dead.
This OS is a complete joke. My Vista 64 Nightmare List: 4GB Flash will not work (Asks for driver which does not exist) Music Keyboards don't have Vista 64 Drivers Vista 64 will not shut down correctly (Shutting down screen freezes) Vista 64 gives cannot locate link for Firefox shortcuts (But Firefox loads with page) Vista 64 will not recognise my Creative Zen....
For the last week or 2, with the exception of Windows Updates, I can't install or update almost any other program. I have been trying to update , Ad-Aware, no luck. So i uninstalled that and downloaded AVG, but that wouldn't install either.
There's an application program called 'fix.exe' that Startup keeps blocking everytime I switch on my laptop. There are no description or publisher information and the startup type is 'Registry: Local Machine'.
The program is located in the Windows folder on my C: I can't do anything from Startup Program caused the options 'Remove / Disable / Enable' are greyed out.
Secondly, I've upgraded my Nero 7 to 8 and there are 2 options in the AutoPlay menu that are were uninstalled along with Nero 7. I've tried uninstalling Nero 8 and when the AutoPlay pop up, all the options of Nero 8 were still there. How do I delete unwanted options from the AutoPlay menu ?I'm running on Vista Home Premium A.
Not all programs listed in the pinned area and recently run area of the Start Menu will run when you click on them. This is true particularly of MS Office programs. Some programs will run when clicked on, but not others. With those that won't run, you have to go to "All Programs" and select them from there. This is very annoying, because you never know which programs will run.In Windows XP, you never had this problem.I was hoping that SP-1 would fix this, but it didn't.Do others have this problem? Can it be fixed?
I'm a novice so bear with me. Though I want some programs on my computer, I don't want them to automatically start up and slow down the boot up process. In the bottom right corner, I always have Adobe Downloader, Skype, Kodak Printer Status, Web Cam, etc. that I don't want to start up but want available on my desktop if I ever need them. If I go to Add/Delete programs, that will get rid of the program entirely. I just want to get rid of the automatic start up feature of the program. How can I do this????
I have Vista Ultimate, where do I find the remote assistance program, I don't find it on the start menue anywhere, (of coarse I do wear trifocales). I have it in live messenger but it must be on windows start menue somewhere
Two days ago I deleted a few shortcuts from my desktop, now everytime I even try to go to IE, a windows pops up asking me which program do I want to use to open IE - this is happening everytime I try to open a new window and for exapmple i want to go to Google... Also, one of the shortcuts i deleted is Skype, now if I try to open Skype from the icon I have on the bottom toolbar or form the Start menu, a window pops up saying that it doesn't recognise the program - any ideas of what I've done wrong and if there is a solution??
I had my Snipping tool disappear from start/programs list AND short cut from quick links. An index search tool could not find it either. The popular solution of enabling from the 'add/remove programs windows function' in control panel did not help. Everyone and there brother told me this would solve my problem. I still could not locate the SnippingTool.exe file. I went to c:/windows/systems32/ and found SnippingTool.exe in the system32 folder and right click to create a desktop icon shortcut. bing...back in action. I still have no idea why my shortcuts and programs list from start menu would have disappeared, but at least if this happens again, I'll know what to do.
all of the sudden (i havent noticed when it happend as i mainly use desktop icons) the programs have disapeared totally from the "All Programs". Most of the oem ones are there and i saw the thread to restore those, no biggy there, but the programs that i installed are gone now too, like Office, flight sim x, wow, quickbooks, etc. is there a way i can restore or retrieve those without reinstalling? i dont really want to go and copy shortcuts manually. the Programdatamicro softwindows does not contain Start Menu?
I have tried to find an update to my BIOS (Phoenix Trustedcore Ver. R01-B0F), but it seems almost impossible to find! I have tried at Phoenix' homepage, but they redirect me to DriverAgent that is a driver scanning program and that costs money. It must be possible to find the update elsewhere.
When a click on a program in the start menu, explorer shuts down and restarts. However, if I drag the program to the desktop and click on it the program opens just fine. If I open windows explorer and right click on a file, explorer shuts down and restarts. Have there lost all context item availability.
I am currently trying to run the download for windows update but whatever I try it says it has started the download but never moves from 0KB downloaded and after a couple of minutes it reverts back to saying preparing to install and gets no further no matter how long I wait.
After installation of unknown update (I have it set as automatic so I'm not sure what was that) in my notebook I restart it (it can be that I also catched a virus or something but since it happend around time when automatic updates done I assume it it the problem). But now it is notopening. Vista is automatically trying to fix the problem but every time failed. It’s showing the following error details
Problem event Name: Startup Repair V2 Problem Signature 01 : Auto Failover Problem Signature 02 : 6.0.60000.16386.6.0.60001.18000 Problem Signature 03 : 6 Problem Signature 04 : 655370 Problem Signature 05 : NoRootCause Problem Signature 06 : NoRootCause Problem Signature 07 : 0 Problem Signature 08 : 2 Problem Signature 09 : Wrp Repair Problem Signature 10 : 0 Os version : 6.0.60000.2.0.0.256.1 Local ID : 1033
Right now I can only access my note book in command mode So fas it looks like I have two options: format the disk or go back to fabric settings, and since I have a lot of data I don't want to do that. Is there a way to restore the data?
read the following negative about bitlocker. Can anyone confirm these and even point me towards an official MS document confirming these
1. non-Microsoft software updates will require you to completely disable BitLocker before you start
2. System upgrades will require you to decrypt the volume
3. Only volume containing OS and system files will be encrypted. Other volumes are nto encrypted by bitlocker but can be encrypted using EFS. Will there be any support for bitlocker using certificates issued by Active Directory enabled PKI services? (microsoft certificate services)
I click Start, then Windows Update - nothing, it just locks up as a blank screen. It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update? What would you recommend?
A while ago on my desktop Vista I was installing some updates. After I restarted the computer, it went straight to startup repair. I used system restore to restore to a point before I installed the updates. My computer worked fine. Thinking it hadn't been the updates that had caused the problem, I updated again but with the same results. This has also happned on other computers of mine. Ever since then, I have never installed a single update. I am wondering if this is a good idea or not.
The other day my compter was working just fine, until the battery died and it shut off. Ever since then, when I start it up McAfee doesn't open at start up, or at all for that matter. And, everytime I double click on the shortcut, the picture comes up, but it just stays that way, and then the desktop freezes. And, when I try to open something that needs permission to continue, like when I right click and select "Run as administrator, nothing happens. Also, when I try to uninstall something, nothing happens. The internet icon on the taskbar is always frozen, indicating that there's no connection, when there actually is.
Most programs do the same as McAfee, althought Internet Explorer 8 works, but not well. It stops working alot and hulu videos don't work for instance. Also, anytime I try to download something on IE8, it quickly jumps to 99% and stops there. And, whenever I try system restore in help, the window stops responding. My mom thinks that it might be a virus from a song that she downloaded on LimeWire 5.1.1 PRO. But again, McAfee won't work. And my registry cleaning software won't open, because it has to ask permission. Which doesn't work. Windows Update doesn't even respond when I open it. What should I do?
I am trying to install AR2007 on my Vista PC. Installs fine, full installation. When i try to start the program I get error "your registry settings for this application were not copied correctly. Run Setup from the location where you orinally installed it" I have done this but still get the same error message, and cannot start the program
I am trying to update the bios on my computer but I am running into problems when booting from a usb flash drive. I get the error: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible."
I have been going about this process following instructions found here: Solution for Updating the BIOS on Windows Vista x64 Machines (VistaJuice)
I'm getting "a program needs your permission to continue" how do I add the program to a trusted list so I dont get this any more. Im bouncing around lots of different programs and its driving me crazy, I need to stop this for selected programs that I trust like putty
whats wrong with my recovery manager program in HP pavilion laptop... when i run the program, a window appears: microsoft visual c++ runtime library runtime error program c:windowssminst estore7.exe abnormal program termination...
That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.
As far as I can determine, this update (released 22Oct08) does not work, at least not with Windows Vista Home Premium. I had update 7 running, and got an update notification for Release 10 earlier today. Downloaded and installed the update, tried the Java test page, Firefox (both 3.0.3 and today's Minefield beta-test for Firefox 3.1) hung. Tried the update in IE7, that, too, hung.
Went to Control Panel, clicked on the Java icon, had some problems opening it; when it did finally open, I went into Advanced and found that Update 10 was not recognizing IE. Opened IE, redownloaded the off-line update, to see if that worked; answer is, no, it still did not recognize IE. Back to Java, found the off-line installed for Update 7, removed 10, reinstalled 7; Java works once again. In the midst of this aggravation, trying to figure out what the problem was, I did find one link to an article that said Update 10 had been delayed due to some unspecified problem. Seems to me that, at least for Vista Home Premium, there is still at least one unspecified problem with Update 10.
Microsoft Update was first released a few years ago for Windows XP and Server 2003 as a great way to update all of your Microsoft software installed on your PC. Not only would it update Windows, but it would also update Microsoft Office. Are you a Microsoft Outlook user? If so, Microsoft Update would even download updated junk mail signatures when they are released.
In Windows Vista the new Windows Update application is no longer web-based. Microsoft has built-in the old Microsoft Update functionality into the new interface but you need to turn it on before you can use it. Follow these steps to turn on updates for other Microsoft applications: ...
I understand that Vista SP2 RC update has to be uninstalled before installing SP2 RTM update(when bcomes available). Does 5the Windows Update automatically uninstall SP2 RC update or does it has to be done manually?
