View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate 64 (upgrade) and the system began performing slowly about a week ago. Seemed like it was having problems accessing the drives (RAID 1). I performed a Restore which seemed to help, but after awhile it slowed down again. After some checking around I found there were no devices listed in the Program Manager. I looked on the web and found something for XP where you check your Plug and Play in Services - mine has all the buttons greyed out (can't even pause it)
The odd thing is that you can boot up, log in (that takes awhile), and browse the web without any difficulties. It's just when you want to look inside a folder that it freezes, and after while, shows you the contents. At this point, I'm going to do a repair from the installation disk if there's no other solution available.
it appears as though my webcam (a Logitech QuickCam Communications Deluxe) is crashing my MSN whenever I try to use it. I'm unsure why, honestly, and it's incredibly annoying.
As a sort of aside: how come the Task Manager doesn't actually close a program / process / task when I tell it to? It seems like it thinks about it for a while then decides it knows more than I do.
Second, my machine hangs on restarts and shutdowns for some reason. I don't know why it does it because it seems to happen at random intervals. Is there some reason why this would be happening? XP was able to shut down without a problem so it stands to reason that Vista would be able to do that, too.
I turned on my computer this morning and when I right click the tool bar at the bottom of the screen the "task Manager" is grayed out. I tried MS help for vista and it when the program was attempted to start it says the administrator has this locked out. I only have one user on this machine and I am set as the adminstrator. Does anyone know how I have to reset this so I can gain access to the task manager?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've had a problem with my new lap top. I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium x64 on a 2.2Gh Dual core. Every time I turn my lap top on, after it finishes loading all the stuff, all of a sudden explorer.exe cpu usage jumps to 40~50% and won't come down until I finish the process and start it again through task manager. This is really annoying since I have to do this everytime it starts... I have read many threads about similar problems. Although none of the solutions have worked for me so far...
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt says something in relationship with these words. Windows Boot Manager Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

So basically, a few weeks after i got Vista i tried to install Stellarium (freeware astronomy program), which crashed my computer. I restarted, and after typing in my password I get "My Documents" open on a black screen, nothing else, no taskbar or desktop icons or anything. When i try to open the "taskbar and start menu" icon in Control Panel, nothing happens. Also, when I Ctrl-Alt-Del the usual screen comes up, but the task manager is no longer an option, and i can't think of how to access it or my taskbar. I've installed all the servfice packs and they haven't helped.

There's an application program called 'fix.exe' that Startup keeps blocking everytime I switch on my laptop. There are no description or publisher information and the startup type is 'Registry: Local Machine'.
The program is located in the Windows folder on my C: I can't do anything from Startup Program caused the options 'Remove / Disable / Enable' are greyed out.
Secondly, I've upgraded my Nero 7 to 8 and there are 2 options in the AutoPlay menu that are were uninstalled along with Nero 7. I've tried uninstalling Nero 8 and when the AutoPlay pop up, all the options of Nero 8 were still there. How do I delete unwanted options from the AutoPlay menu ?I'm running on Vista Home Premium A.
Not all programs listed in the pinned area and recently run area of the Start Menu will run when you click on them. This is true particularly of MS Office programs. Some programs will run when clicked on, but not others. With those that won't run, you have to go to "All Programs" and select them from there. This is very annoying, because you never know which programs will run.In Windows XP, you never had this problem.I was hoping that SP-1 would fix this, but it didn't.Do others have this problem? Can it be fixed?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm a novice so bear with me. Though I want some programs on my computer, I don't want them to automatically start up and slow down the boot up process. In the bottom right corner, I always have Adobe Downloader, Skype, Kodak Printer Status, Web Cam, etc. that I don't want to start up but want available on my desktop if I ever need them. If I go to Add/Delete programs, that will get rid of the program entirely. I just want to get rid of the automatic start up feature of the program. How can I do this????

View 9 Replies View RelatedVista Home Premium. Downloads used to work fine. All of a sudden I cannot download any freeware/shareware programs. The green thingie goes across and the download count increments normally. The box also says that the download is to a temporary file whereas previously, my downloads went to the user folder. Anyway, when it's done downloading, I cannot find a temporary file. A search does not produce a location of the program or a temporary file.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI had my Snipping tool disappear from start/programs list AND short cut from quick links. An index search tool could not find it either. The popular solution of enabling from the 'add/remove programs windows function' in control panel did not help. Everyone and there brother told me this would solve my problem. I still could not locate the SnippingTool.exe file. I went to c:/windows/systems32/ and found SnippingTool.exe in the system32 folder and right click to create a desktop icon shortcut. bing...back in action. I still have no idea why my shortcuts and programs list from start menu would have disappeared, but at least if this happens again, I'll know what to do.

I can reinstall this?
Quote: If you have a HP computer, then HP has it's own version of System Restore installed called HP Recovery Manager. You can uninstall this in Programs and Features.
I ran across this statement in Tutorials.
It needs some clarifications:
In Pavillion and Presario notebooks, HP Rec Mgr does more than just System restore. And btw, HP does not have its own version of SR. It runs Windows' version.
HP Rec Mgr has other functions: Re-install original software programs and hardware drivers and complete System Recovery restoring the original hard disk factory template. It can be utilized to create a set of recovery discs.
In HP Business notebook, Rec Mgr does not re-install software progs and drivers but does the others listed in Pavilion/Presario models.
I don't think HP Recovery Manager should be uninstalled. Or if perchance, he meant uninstalling System Restore, be aware that HP Rec Mgr will be unable to system restore on its own if Windows SR is unstalled or disabled.
