How To Unblock A Start Up Program
Jun 13, 2008
There's an application program called 'fix.exe' that Startup keeps blocking everytime I switch on my laptop. There are no description or publisher information and the startup type is 'Registry: Local Machine'.
The program is located in the Windows folder on my C: I can't do anything from Startup Program caused the options 'Remove / Disable / Enable' are greyed out.
Secondly, I've upgraded my Nero 7 to 8 and there are 2 options in the AutoPlay menu that are were uninstalled along with Nero 7. I've tried uninstalling Nero 8 and when the AutoPlay pop up, all the options of Nero 8 were still there.How do I delete unwanted options from the AutoPlay menu ?I'm running on Vista Home Premium A.

I think since XP SP2 days, a new security attribute was added to filessuch that files that came in by IM, email, or across the network were separately identified and blocked from being executed. To unblock,one need to go the Properties of the file and then click the Unblock button.
XP was rather lax in enforcing blocking. But Vista appears to block everything, including html files inside a zip file.
Each time I unzip the contents of a compressed file, I have to go andunblock each and every of its files. What is the method to Unblockmore than one file at a time? The moment I select two files, theUnblock button cannot be seen anymore, even if both individually is blocked. What is the command line version or Windows Powershell cmdlet to unblock a file?

Not all programs listed in the pinned area and recently run area of the Start Menu will run when you click on them.This is true particularly of MS Office programs.Some programs will run when clicked on, but not others.With those that won't run, you have to go to "All Programs" and select them from there.This is very annoying, because you never know which programs will run.In Windows XP, you never had this problem.I was hoping that SP-1 would fix this, but it didn't.Do others have this problem? Can it be fixed?

I'm a novice so bear with me. Though I want some programs on my computer, I don't want them to automatically start up and slow down the boot up process. In the bottom right corner, I always have Adobe Downloader, Skype, Kodak Printer Status, Web Cam, etc. that I don't want to start up but want available on my desktop if I ever need them. If I go to Add/Delete programs, that will get rid of the program entirely. I just want to get rid of the automatic start up feature of the program. How can I do this????

Two days ago I deleted a few shortcuts from my desktop, now everytime I even try to go to IE, a windows pops up asking me which program do I want to use to open IE - this is happening everytime I try to open a new window and for exapmple i want to go to Google... Also, one of the shortcuts i deleted is Skype, now if I try to open Skype from the icon I have on the bottom toolbar or form the Start menu, a window pops up saying that it doesn't recognise the program - any ideas of what I've done wrong and if there is a solution??

I had my Snipping tool disappear from start/programs list AND short cut from quick links. An index search tool could not find it either. The popular solution of enabling from the 'add/remove programs windows function' in control panel did not help. Everyone and there brother told me this would solve my problem. I still could not locate the SnippingTool.exe file. I went to c:/windows/systems32/ and found SnippingTool.exe in the system32 folder and right click to create a desktop icon shortcut. bing...back in action. I still have no idea why my shortcuts and programs list from start menu would have disappeared, but at least if this happens again, I'll know what to do.

When a click on a program in the start menu, explorer shuts down and restarts. However, if I drag the program to the desktop and click on it the program opens just fine. If I open windows explorer and right click on a file, explorer shuts down and restarts. Have there lost all context item availability.

I have Windows Vista Ultimate x64, and it came with 2 set of program files: program files, and program files x86. Since my hard drive is only 100 gigs, I was wondering if I could delete the normal program files and keep the x86 ones, or would that cause problems?

Every Windows power user knows the command line is “the place” to get serious work done. The new Start Menu search box in Windows Vista opens the door to a whole new level of command line possibilities. One utility called Start++ extends the Start Menu search box to add even more features allowing you to use shortcuts to launch web sites and processes.
Would you like to search Google from your start menu search box? Just type g followed by your query such as “g tweak vista”. How about doing a quick search on Wikipedia? Type w and your query in the search box. The possibilities are endless because you can create custom shortcuts just like the examples above.
On top of web shortcuts, you can also create application links that will launch an app and open a file. Almost anything is possible with a little customization of the Start++ utility shown below....

Code:
#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
voidmain (int argc, char *argv[])......................

I was browsing the internet and was going to install this one software, but noticed i clicked on the wrong button and Advance Virus Remover was installed. I looked on the control panal to uninstall it, didn't show up, so i went through and deleted all the files pertaining to the program. now, there is an icon on my tool bar that i can't click on and it blocks some of my stuff, like when i try opening a movie, saying the the "Application cannot be executed. The file is infected. Please activate your antivirus software." i ran a virus scan, got nothing. I even tried a full restore, since i just got this computer monday, and it was still there.

I did a search for "x86" on these forums and did not find anything. So, I'd like to ask a few quick question to Brink or anyone else that might know.
This is my first computer with a 64-bit OS (Vista Home Premium). I noticed that there are two separate "Program Files" directories off of root C:
a "Program Files" directory a "Program Files (x86)" directory Is there a difference between the two directories that we should know about?
Also, I've been installing programs to "Program Files (x86)." The programs I've been installing are not necessary 64-bit programs. Should I be installing programs to the "Program Files" directory, instead?

I read the "answer" post about UAC, and was wondering why when I set something to "run as administrator" in it's Properties it does not do so on an Administrator account? On the Guest account I have set up the program runs without asking for any kind of verification or admin password, but it always asks for such when run from the administrator account. What has gone wrong here? Is there some way to make a program "trusted" (like all Microsoft products) so that it doesn't ever need verification for all accounts on a system?
