Right now I can only access my note book in command mode So fas it looks like I have two options: format the disk or go back to fabric settings, and since I have a lot of data I don't want to do that. Is there a way to restore the data?

Until several months ago, I was able to scan in Vista Ultimate (SP1). Recently, however, when I start WFS.exe, nothing happens at all. I don't see the application in my task list or on the screen.

Windows6.0-KB917607-x86 does not install. No problems with administrator's pw. But after it runs comes back with the message "Some updates did not Install". No number or anything else. Second, Win Update keeps giving me error 80070002. I have tried all the suggestions I found in the net, but nothing works. The problem is still there. Thirdly, I tried to manually update IE7 to IE8 and also told me the same thing, it fails to update.

I use Vista Ultimate 64.
For the past few weeks I've been having an issue with an Apple made service called "Bonjour Service". That service is used in several pieces of software including iTunes (which I do not use) but also some Adobe applications (Version Cue for example) and the font management utility I use which is Extensis Suitcase 11.0.1 for Windows.
Both Version Cue and Suitcase depend on the Bonjour Service to work and I have had no issues with it for months but recently, the Bonjour Service stopped working and would not start anymore. It now gives this error message when trying to start it:
"('Bonjour Service' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
My user account is an admin account so privileges is not an issue. I had made no changes to my system myself before the Bonjour service began to "refuse" starting but I remember that I installed a few Windows updates a couple days prior. My machine is always on and I don't re-boot everyday.
So I was wondering if anyone has heard of the issue and knows how I might fix it or if anyone can give me pointers on how I my start trouble shooting this and find what started preventing the Bonjour Service from starting. FWIW, the Windows Firewall is already off and turning off my anti-virus doesn't help (Eset NOD32).

read the following negative about bitlocker. Can anyone confirm these and even point me towards an official MS document confirming these
1. non-Microsoft software updates will require you to completely disable BitLocker before you start
2. System upgrades will require you to decrypt the volume
3. Only volume containing OS and system files will be encrypted. Other volumes are nto encrypted by bitlocker but can be encrypted using EFS. Will there be any support for bitlocker using certificates issued by Active Directory enabled PKI services? (microsoft certificate services)

I click Start, then Windows Update - nothing, it just locks up as a blank screen. It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I restored the PC to a about month previous (5/12/2010) - nothing.I have Comcast and they replaced McAfee with the Norton Suite and that is what I'm using, not Windows protection software. Could that affect the use of Windows Update? What would you recommend?

A while ago on my desktop Vista I was installing some updates. After I restarted the computer, it went straight to startup repair. I used system restore to restore to a point before I installed the updates. My computer worked fine. Thinking it hadn't been the updates that had caused the problem, I updated again but with the same results. This has also happned on other computers of mine. Ever since then, I have never installed a single update. I am wondering if this is a good idea or not.

The other day my compter was working just fine, until the battery died and it shut off. Ever since then, when I start it up McAfee doesn't open at start up, or at all for that matter. And, everytime I double click on the shortcut, the picture comes up, but it just stays that way, and then the desktop freezes. And, when I try to open something that needs permission to continue, like when I right click and select "Run as administrator, nothing happens. Also, when I try to uninstall something, nothing happens. The internet icon on the taskbar is always frozen, indicating that there's no connection, when there actually is.
Most programs do the same as McAfee, althought Internet Explorer 8 works, but not well. It stops working alot and hulu videos don't work for instance. Also, anytime I try to download something on IE8, it quickly jumps to 99% and stops there. And, whenever I try system restore in help, the window stops responding. My mom thinks that it might be a virus from a song that she downloaded on LimeWire 5.1.1 PRO. But again, McAfee won't work. And my registry cleaning software won't open, because it has to ask permission. Which doesn't work. Windows Update doesn't even respond when I open it. What should I do?

Hello from France. Here is my problem of the day... I just put a new, 160 Go hard disk in my Dell Inspiron laptop. Then, following Dell's instructions as found on a flyer that came with the machine, this is what I did :
1. install Dell's "For Reinstalling Dell Media Direct 3" DVD
2. install Vista
3. finish with "For Reinstalling Dell Media Direct 3"
At stage 2 I choose to have C: at 50 Go, leaving the rest to D: Once Vista was installed, I found that D: had yet to be formatted, which I did. Now, as I take a look at the system, I find that there are in fact 4 volumes: - one is 47 Mo -"Type :" basic -"Statut :" Sound (Configuration EISA) ; this one can't be touched
- second is 2,01 Go - "Type :" basic - "Statut :" Sound (Principal partition) ;
this one can be deleted.......

I noticed a Standard user named "dlbj_IAM" in my Parental Controls and I didn't create this account. I have a stand alone Vista Premium computer with wireless connectivity. The account doesn't show up in "User Accounts" or when I check the users folder creation in explorer to determine when it was created - there are no folders created for this user. I would like to determine when this account was created and if there has been any wireless activity before deleting this account.
I set parental controls to high and put every restriction I could find on this account. I have gone to Admin Tools, Computer Management in hopes to look in Local Users and Groups but it doesn't exist. Is this something different about Vista Premium?

I'm running Vista 64-bit, OneCare firewall, and have just downloaded and run ESET AV. I have an outbound ip address showing up in a sniffer log about every 5 minutes or so, only from this one machine. The IP address does not resolve, and doesn't seem to exist, but the fact that my machine is trying to reach out bugs me. I found the problem on Airsnare, and caught the outbound ICMP request via Ethereal. Inside of a Linksys router, with only a non-standard VNC port forwarded to this machine.

Quite a problem here. I noticed my internet [T1, I have a box with a light that flashes when in use] was going nonstop at a fast rate, even when my computer was idle. So I went and checked my network settings. My computer is alone, not on any networks, but "JACQUELINE-PC" and a media version of that is showing up on my network. My network was private and I changed it to public, seeing as Windows Help said that is safest for lone computers. I also added a password to my windows computer account. I tried to turn "file sharing" off, but it said it was controlled by my firewall. I use Nortons
Internet Security for firewall and I havent been able to find any option to
disable file sharing in it.
