Before SP1, I use to be able to switch between users with no problems, now with SP1, the second user will never load right. It dosent matter which user logs in first, the second one will always be messed up and the only way to fix it is to restart. Logging off dosent fix it, the second user never works right unless you restart. This is a very bad thing for me, I need to be able to switch users on the fly.
View 6 RepliesMy wife and I have different email ids with the same ISP and I have setup a shared Store Folder that we both use. Vista Mail is setup in each of our Accounts so that when I "send and receive" I get her emails as well as mine. The same happens from her own User Account.
The problem that we now have, which did not occur on Windows XP and Outlook, is that whenever we "Switch User" and start up Mail we are prompted by Windows Security to enter the User Name and Password for each email account even though "Remember my credentials" is checked.
I have tried all of the "fixes" I can find including deleting c:/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Protect and not using the "Apply" button when creating the Mail Accounts (See "Microsoft mail does not retain username and password" in this Newsgroup).
I have windows vista home premium x64, its a fairly new computer - not even one year old. it has 12gb of RAM, and the i7 core processor - i dont think its much useful to my problem, but here it is: Logging off/Switching users takes forever, sometimes the screen just goes blank and stays there. When it does work, i cannot login again properly - Only my desktop backround is shown (No sidebar, no desktop icons, no start menu etc) The computer will not fully come out of sleep mode (Sleep mode isnt even set to on, yet screen shuts down anyway)again only background is shown when i try to wake it up Ctrl+Alt+Del in this state brings up a blank screen yet again, but i know that the menu is there (Sounds) Of course there are other problems, but i dont think they are related (USB ports stop working)If ANYONE has a similiar problem or knows how to resolve myissue,

Also, they didn't review my specs before sending new solutions.. Giving drivers not compatible for my notebook. I calculated that to migrate to Vista or Windows 7 will cost close to =A32000. not including my time - It will take around 100 hours. This is because many of my existing software / tools / utilities does not work on Vista and the vendors expect me to buy a new license because it is a "new product" even though it does exactly what it did before - just on a different OS. Even the products that do work have problems and glitches that have to be worked around. All this takes time MY VALUABLE time. In other words I am suffering because Microsoft want money. In the past some versions of windows were worth migrating to Windows 2000 and Windows XP were great
But most of the improvements to Vista / Windows 7 are mostly transparent to normal users - even monster power users like me. I believe Microsoft have a serious attitude problem. just wait until they take full advantage of TPM to screw even more money out of us. If I am wrong please point out a real tangible benefit that Vista or Windows 7 brings to a large percentage of users or to me. I also I can no longer buy a laptop because they only come with Vista GPU drivers (some come with buggy unsupported XP GPU drivers - great)
Has anyone else noticed when installing Vista SP1 that there VPN connections will no longer work? This has happened to me and here's a link to Microsoft Forums where others have reported the same issue with their work VPN's no longer working I'm curious to find out how many others are affected by this problem and
when we can expect a fix from Microsoft? NOTE: for people who do experience this you can get it working again by uninstalling SP1.
I am really frustrated with this wireless break down problem in my laptop. I am using HPDV2315nr laptop standard US configuration. I have moved to UK recently and my laptop has developed strange problem. My wireless internet gets disconnected every 30 min if i make my computer go in sleep mode and then restart it works fine and gets connected again.

I notice the nvidia driver installed is 2006/12/19, version 7.15.10.9754. Sony does not have any new driver on its website and Nvidia does not provide drivers for laptops. I'd like to know which is culprit of the break of my opengl apps, Vista SP1 or nvidia driver?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been using the windows update tool to manually keep security and bug patches current on my laptop but every time (tried four times over several months) I install sp2 it breaks most subsequent updates. After installing sp2 most of the subsequent updates fail with a nondescript error code that suggests corruption in system files when I try to install them.
I use the system restore to go back to the point before sp2 is installed and everything is OK again. It passes the KB947821 update readiness tool without reporting any problems. Installation of sp2 itself never reports any errors. it's only subsequent updates that fail..........
I share folders between my vista, xp, and linux boxes. This update makes it impossible to see my linux boxes from vista. Anybody know how to fix this?

Before I upgraded Vista SP1 PCs to SP2, all PCs could see and share files among each other. After I upgraded two of the Vista PCs to Vista SP2, the XP PC cannot see their shared folders. The Vista SP2 PCs show up in the list, but when I try to see the shared folders I get an error message "\XP2PC is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I've rebooted everything including the router. All the Vista PCs, whether SP1 or SP2, can see each other's shares. The problem is only with the XP PC -- it appears that SP2 broke something.

When Windows Vista changes from Windows Address book to Windows Contacts, I lost the ability to put my contacts in groups, which I use all the time. It says the Windows Contacts toolbar should have a "New Contact Group" button, but mine only has Organize, View and Burn. How do I fix this
View 6 Replies View Relatedi am unable to make new folders via right click. When i do right click and select new, the submenu only says (empty) in gray. I have no options on creating a new folder, file etc. Ive tried using the folder fix registry thing to no available correction. Also, im not sure if its related, but 1/2 of my start menu is missing as well.
When i click start, all the immediate programs in the list are empty, its just a giant white box, but if i choose like programs etc stuff shows up, what gives? I run the avg free antivirus and malwarebytes as well and neither find anything. Id rather not do a restore either as im not sure really when it started.

I have a Epson CX6400 and had the features listed above with Windows XP, but lost them with Vista, so I'm thinking about buying a new CX8400, because Epson is not going to write code for a new Print Preferences Window for my CX6400.
Upto about 10 days ago my MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 paired with the built-in BT of my HP tx1000 series tablet notebook just fine, but at one point the notebook no longer recognized the mouse and zince then it does not show up in the BT devices screen when I try to add the mouse manually. The OS is Vista Home Premium and the notebook uses the Broadcom 6.2 driver. I know the mouse is OK because I can pair it with the BT on my desktop PC. I figure the problem was caused by one of the automatic Vista updates but it's too late to go to do a restore that far. I just about tried everything except HP's email support that is pretty worthless, based on my prior experience with them.

I then installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit on the other partition. ( I have two partitions on a single drive, C: and D This has been working great for me for the last 5 months. Today I have a reason to perform a repair install on just the Windows XP partition. I have performed a Win XP repair install successfully in the past using the XP SP2 install CD but never when my system was set up as dual boot. If I perform a repair install using my WinXP install disk to repair the Windows XP installation, will this leave my Vista partition untouched? Will it at all interfere with the system's ability to multi boot? I'm not very concerned about not being able to boot up into Windows XP but it's extremely critical that my system's ability to boot up into Vista is not compromised.

I have held off switching to IE8 as I always understood it was better to let some of the kinks be sorted out first before going to something newer from Microsoft. Currently I use IE7 and Vista and am fairly happy with it despite the occasional blips. Should I change or leave alone? If I do change should I upgrade or completely clear out IE7 and if I don't care for the results can I switch back again?

That's the one with the current user avatar and a Switch User button, it seems to serve no useful purpose, wasn't there on XP. Is there some way of making the User Account avatars more like those on XP? I have week eyesight and I can't discern which avatar has focus when I use arrow keys, so I have to use the mouse. On XP it was much more obvious which UA had focus. Is there some way to show the mail and process counts?

At work, I'm required to manually enter the IP address and subsequent info to get WiFi. Is there a way in Vista to set up two different "profiles" or "locations" that I can easily toggle between to change my IP settings, so I don't have to go into the Network Connections and change them every time I switch between the two places? View 5 Replies View RelatedVista 64 killed my Corel PaintShopPro Photo X2. I installed it and then Vista did some security updates and PSP8 ; PSP9 and PSP Photo X2 no longer run. I did load and tried Photo X2 uninstalled it then PSP 9; unstalled it then PSP 8 then uninstalled it. Up to Sunday 20th it worked OK. bUt I uninstalled it formatted the hard drive and started again and it has not run since.
First time it ran when I put it in then came on the reboot in would not load after switching it off for a while then switching it on again to then hung up the PC. The only way to get Vista to run was to use the Vista installation disc and that wiped PSP off the hard drive. I have repeated this 5 times, each time with a clean formatted disc with the same results. It is an automatic microsoft update (I think it said security update).
I just purchased a new computer with Vista OS. I had Outlook Express on my old system. I now have Windows Mail on the new computer. Is there any way to bring the Outlook Express DBX files into Windows Mail? I tried to import, but it didn't seem to recognize any of my folders.
