Strange Behaviour After Upgrading To AMD Quad-Core From Dual-Core

Jan 20, 2010

Simply put- RED Blue Screens. I don't know what I need to call them. THEY ARE RED! And they just reference "An error reading the instruction set" There is no STOP Error. I upgraded the Processor from AMD Athlon x2 5000+ to an AMD Phenom x4 9650. I have not overclocked it. In fact, first thing I did after installing it was reset CMOS.

I've checked for minidumps relating to this issue but there are none. I am running Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.

SP1 Breaks OpenGL Application

I've got a Sony VAIO with GeForce 7400Go. Doom 3 and my OpenGL programs run fine before Vista SP1 and crash at startup after SP1 update. I notice the nvidia driver installed is 2006/12/19, version 7.15.10.9754. Sony does not have any new driver on its website and Nvidia does not provide drivers for laptops. I'd like to know which is culprit of the break of my opengl apps, Vista SP1 or nvidia driver?

64 Bit Sp2 Breaks Most Subsequent Updates

Jan 16, 2010

I've been using the windows update tool to manually keep security and bug patches current on my laptop but every time (tried four times over several months) I install sp2 it breaks most subsequent updates. After installing sp2 most of the subsequent updates fail with a nondescript error code that suggests corruption in system files when I try to install them.

I use the system restore to go back to the point before sp2 is installed and everything is OK again. It passes the KB947821 update readiness tool without reporting any problems. Installation of sp2 itself never reports any errors. it's only subsequent updates that fail..........

Cooling A 9800GX2

Oct 26, 2008

I just check the temp on my 9800GX2, and while playing a video in Media Player the GPU temp is around 87 degrees celsius, and the PCB is around 78! Surely that's too hot? After playing games they both go above the 90 degree mark, even to the 100 degree - how can I cool this mammoth card down? Some games it gets hot and the video card just shuts down and I have to reset. I have a cooler master CM690 case, with a front intake fan (120mm), a rear exhaust fan (90mm), a side of the case fan over the CPU (120mm, exhaust), and a side of the case fan over the GFX card (120mm, intake, blows air over the gfx card). Maybe I need to change the configuration of the fans? Or get something a hell of a lot better for them? I regularly use a can of compressed air inside the case, and on all the fans to keep it dust free.

SP1 Breaks Switching Users Ability

Mar 18, 2008

Before SP1, I use to be able to switch between users with no problems, now with SP1, the second user will never load right. It dosent matter which user logs in first, the second one will always be messed up and the only way to fix it is to restart. Logging off dosent fix it, the second user never works right unless you restart. This is a very bad thing for me, I need to be able to switch users on the fly.

Diferent Types Of Cooling

Mar 13, 2009

right latest question, I am really considering going upto using GTX graphics cards maybe either the 280 or 285 (not sure as yet), but as we all know the standard passive cooling it has is a bit, well, crap.

So i want to find out the best cooling solution apart from water cooling as i don't really want that much maintenance, is there anything different i can use or is that the only thing i can use for best results.

SP2 Breaks Local Share Access From XP Computer

May 8, 2009

I have a home (workgroup, not domain) network with a bunch of Vista SP1 PCs and one XP SP3 PC. Before I upgraded Vista SP1 PCs to SP2, all PCs could see and share files among each other. After I upgraded two of the Vista PCs to Vista SP2, the XP PC cannot see their shared folders. The Vista SP2 PCs show up in the list, but when I try to see the shared folders I get an error message "\XP2PC is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I've rebooted everything including the router. All the Vista PCs, whether SP1 or SP2, can see each other's shares. The problem is only with the XP PC -- it appears that SP2 broke something.

Exclusive: Oil Immersion Cooling Goes Mainstream with Hardcore PC's ReactorWritten by Gordon Mah Ung 10/20/08 at 01:00:00 PM. Stop. You had us at oil submersed motherboard, CPU and GPUs. You didn’t even have to dunk the SSDs, PSU or create a custom motherboard and bullet resistant tank too to convince us that you’re really hard core, umm, Hardcore.

Of course, if you stare too hard at the tank, you’ll miss all the heavenly glory that the Hardcore PC truly is. From its beautiful aluminum case, to its top port routing and the easy to access hard drives, every centimeter of the machine oozes custom computing. And we can honestly say that after tinkering with the most exotic PCs available on Earth for a decade now. What Hardcore is trying to do is so over the top that no one has ever tried it before on a production machine.

But before Hardcore can ascend to take its place among the top performance PC makers, there are an awful lot of questions to answer. Like can they really make and sell these babies for how much the company claims it can? Does it really work? To find the answer to that read on. Editing "business" And Click/delete Redundant Line Breaks As Often As There're Lines In A Document

Jun 10, 2009

When I type a long article in Notepad & paste into WindowsMail line breaks become messed up, forcing me to go back to editing "business" and click/delete redundant line breaks as often as there're lines in a document, if it's 1000 lines, go ahead and spend time clicking for an hour! This make plain text editor unworkable In Vista +WindowsMail environment, due to weird linebreaks handling. Why do I claim it to be weird? BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT IN WindowsXP. I could create a simple ad/artcile in Notepad, copy/paste into OutloookExpress --> Newsgroup posting or Email, and no linebreaks stupidity. Another hemorrhoid in Vista, sometimes I have a forbidden thought: If WinXP could live for another 10 years albeit with security updates & new hardware drivers that would be nice. When I hear "Vista" it causes heartburn.

Debugger For AMD Dual Core X64

I have had some irritating system lockups with my computer lately and I am looking for ways to analyze the problem to see if I can pinpoint the offending application or driver. I have several mini dumps on the computer but unfortunately I don't have the tool to even open them. My computer uses an AMD Athlon dual core 64 bit processor but I'm running 32 bit Vista Ultimate. Following Microsoft's instructions I downloaded the x64 debugger file for amd processors. When I tried to install it I got a message that it is not for use on my system and I'm told to contact my processor vendor (or something to that effect).
