I've got a Sony VAIO with GeForce 7400Go. Doom 3 and my OpenGL programs run fine before Vista SP1 and crash at startup after SP1 update. I notice the nvidia driver installed is 2006/12/19, version 7.15.10.9754. Sony does not have any new driver on its website and Nvidia does not provide drivers for laptops. I'd like to know which is culprit of the break of my opengl apps, Vista SP1 or nvidia driver?
Has anyone else noticed when installing Vista SP1 that there VPN connections will no longer work? This has happened to me and here's a link to Microsoft Forums where others have reported the same issue with their work VPN's no longer working I'm curious to find out how many others are affected by this problem and when we can expect a fix from Microsoft? NOTE: for people who do experience this you can get it working again by uninstalling SP1.
I am really frustrated with this wireless break down problem in my laptop. I am using HPDV2315nr laptop standard US configuration. I have moved to UK recently and my laptop has developed strange problem. My wireless internet gets disconnected every 30 min if i make my computer go in sleep mode and then restart it works fine and gets connected again.
I've been using the windows update tool to manually keep security and bug patches current on my laptop but every time (tried four times over several months) I install sp2 it breaks most subsequent updates. After installing sp2 most of the subsequent updates fail with a nondescript error code that suggests corruption in system files when I try to install them.
I use the system restore to go back to the point before sp2 is installed and everything is OK again. It passes the KB947821 update readiness tool without reporting any problems. Installation of sp2 itself never reports any errors. it's only subsequent updates that fail..........
Before SP1, I use to be able to switch between users with no problems, now with SP1, the second user will never load right. It dosent matter which user logs in first, the second one will always be messed up and the only way to fix it is to restart. Logging off dosent fix it, the second user never works right unless you restart. This is a very bad thing for me, I need to be able to switch users on the fly.

I have a home (workgroup, not domain) network with a bunch of Vista SP1 PCs and one XP SP3 PC. Before I upgraded Vista SP1 PCs to SP2, all PCs could see and share files among each other. After I upgraded two of the Vista PCs to Vista SP2, the XP PC cannot see their shared folders. The Vista SP2 PCs show up in the list, but when I try to see the shared folders I get an error message "\XP2PC is not accessible. You might not have permission..." etc. I've rebooted everything including the router. All the Vista PCs, whether SP1 or SP2, can see each other's shares. The problem is only with the XP PC -- it appears that SP2 broke something.
When I type a long article in Notepad & paste into WindowsMail line breaks become messed up, forcing me to go back to editing "business" and click/delete redundant line breaks as often as there're lines in a document, if it's 1000 lines, go ahead and spend time clicking for an hour! This make plain text editor unworkable In Vista +WindowsMail environment, due to weird linebreaks handling. Why do I claim it to be weird? BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT IN WindowsXP. I could create a simple ad/artcile in Notepad, copy/paste into OutloookExpress --> Newsgroup posting or Email, and no linebreaks stupidity. Another hemorrhoid in Vista, sometimes I have a forbidden thought: If WinXP could live for another 10 years albeit with security updates & new hardware drivers that would be nice. When I hear "Vista" it causes heartburn.
i'm using vista x64 ultimate and having this issue for a long time, couldn't find a solution to fix it clearly.
Sometimes when i start Winamp, it just stops responding for few minutes and a message appears'' The program is not responding, if you wait for longer, it may respond etc..'' But even i'm not able to close it via Taskbar by Ending process or processes tree. Cannot get rid of it without changing the user or restarting the pc.
I am getting this error on start up ISASS.EXE application error then getting a black screen can move my mouse but nothig happens can't boot from safe mode/ last good config etc..
I'm trying to install under Vista Ultimate x64 one of those on-the-fly backup programs (Western Digital Backup Anwhere, or R4Yware Clonedir2), but they just won't run... I suspect this has sth to do with the .NET; I googled and saw a mention somewhere that under x64 systems, they require .NET 3.5. So I downloaded and installed. Net 3.5 - to no avail... In the Vista components, .NET 3.0 is still listed (while in the Program List in Control Panel, only the new 3.5 version is present). I don't think my installation actually changed anything in the system.
when running a game in vista (premium 64bit) i get this message: application ran out of memory when requesting 1048608 bytes. i have 4 gig of ram and dual 3870 graphics cards running in crossfire, so i know its not due to ram.

Clean reinstall of Vista only two days ago, the program functioned correctly on the previous installation of Windows Vista. A friend connected via TeamViewer, and the program launched and functioned with no problems, its only when I attempt todo so.
Just discovered a bizarre application switcher from microsoft, somewhat similar to Apple's Expose.
Here's the screenshot ...
The thing came up when I clicked the mouse wheel. The mouse is Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000. Microsoft software that came with the mouse is installed. Checked the mouse buttons config, and it says that clicking the wheel brings up the Flip 3D.
But, since I use the basic vista theme with Aero disabled (like it more this way), there is no Flip 3D on my machine. When I enable the Aero, clicking the mouse wheel brings up Flip 3D.
Anyone got any idea what is this thing?
Actually i quite like it, because it is fast as hell, way faster and more useful than other third party "expose on windows" third party solutions I tried some time before.
I was wondering how to bring up this thing from my keyboard, but win+tab does nothing. As for now, only clicking the mouse wheel works.
When my application(32bit) about to launch in Visat x64, it draws the border over my application and says "Not responding". This is not happening in Windows XP. Also the time period that taken by application differs from XP and Vista x64. Vista takes more time to load than Xp.
We have a new computer that came with Vista 64bit. We have Word 03 docs that we can't open and receive this error message: .doc is not a valid win32 application. What can we do to fix this so we can access our old documents? We have some of the same problems when trying to access files from the net that may be in Word format.
I have been looking for an app that will record streaming audio ( web radio stations) like these News/Talk Radio Programs Streaming on the Internet and this Phil Hendrie Streaming on the Internet I found a program today: Wavosaur free audio editor with VST and ASIO support too complicated
I have been using messer Messer - Memo Session Sound Recorderfor years on my XP machine but it won't work on my vista. My mic records all sound in the room even when I breathe/sniff
I was running Atomic Alarm Clock on x86, but that does not seem to work, and I see by a thread in these forums, that Chameleon clock has issues too. So, can anyone suggest a customizable clock, one that can prompt the time servers much more frequently than the built in clock, that does run properly on x64?
When i try to open a setting with a shield next to it it says C:Windowssystem32FirewallSettings.exe application not found can you tell me why this pops up?
Can't seem to get this app to work. D/L and installed properly [I feel] a few times from different sites and no luck. I am using Vista and was under the impression it would work OK.
I have a QUAD PC Q6660 with 4 cores. There is an application that will setup my Windows Vista 32bit to use all cores instead of only 1? in the system hardware vista see that i got 4 cores but im not sure its using all of them. I know that in linux there is such thing that called instance that can use all cores while working on the pc
I recently bought a system running Vista. My Gmail was running fine for a while, but here's the deal: If I have Gmail open in a tab, and it sits idle for awhile, the application appears to freeze. Not only does it freeze (blank screen when I activate the tab), but it "freezes" my whole IE7 (cannot access any other tabs, no tool bar functions, etc.) I have to abort my whole IE7 through task manager. I've started opening Gmail in a separate browser to avoid this, but I still freeze in that browser window and have to abort with Task manager. Anyone else having this problem? It only happens with Gmail, everything else works fine.
