Prediction On Usenet: Groups Will Be Migrated To MS Forums
Oct 24, 2009
All Microsoft Usenet groups will be migrated to MS forums. I suspect it's due to no moderation on Usenet and because Google is the search engine of choice for Windows problems, even searching through Google's groups. Hence, Bing hopes to replace Google as the search engine of choice for Microsoft's web forums.
Could one of the MVPs send the server and groupnames for the defender application. I would really like to install my own anti-spyware application to replace defender, but security center does not have the option available to switch monitoring to the other application, Ad-aware pro, at this time.
I have over 20 different Groups set up in my Address Book. In the good old Outlook Express Address Book, I could open a Contact and in the "Other" tab, I could see a list of all the Groups that the person belongs to. In Windows Mail Contacts. I successfully imported all my Contacts and Groups. But is there a way to find out which Groups a person belongs to? It's too time consuming to manually search through each of my 20 groups. The Help section claims that Windows Mail has all the features of Outlook Express. but the list of Groups a person belongs to is obviously missing. show me that I can display a list of Groups for each person. I rely heavily on Groups. Just for example, if I have multiple entries for the same person (with different email addresses), I can tell which one is the most current by looking at which email address is part of a recently set up Group.
Does the MS decision to leave out Windows 7 newsgroups as well as a newsreader in the OS a harbinger of the future? That the UseNet is being phased out - or is dying - after almost a third of a century? Does MS know (and control) something we don't? So is this also a social change dictated by technology's progress? - That people will now forgo these discussions and instead concentrate on 'faster' means of conversation. I don't really know where to stand on this but I feel we are witnessing another - rather uncelebrated - change in online sociology. Should I look forward to future newsgroups carried on Twitter someday? Just some year-end musings (meaningless perhaps). Wishing everybody a Happy New Year.
for a little over a week now I've found that, while I CAN access the Microsoft newsgroups, Windows Mail refuses me access to standard Usenet newsgroups. When I so much as try to view... well... any of them I can see in the lower left corner "Authorizing". It then asks me for my username and password. I enter them and see "Authorizing"... followed by it asking my for my username and password again. I've scanned my system no virus. No spyware, nada.. clean system.
I'm using Vista Home Premium and have had the system for a bit over a year and haven't had any major problems. I Have by the way, tried deleting the Usenet account and re-adding it. Still same thing. It's like Windows Mail only allows me to access the Microsoft newsgroups but nothing else. Oh, and there are no problems with sending or receiving emails at all. Just the refusal of Usenet access.
in my blundering efforts, to resize EVERYTHING in these forums. Everything else is fine, but all the images are big and blurring (see pic) and I cant fix it. I'm used to really high res and seeing small crisp images, but I feel like im in 800x600 in here!
I assume this Newsgroup mirrors one of the MS support forums? If so, can anyone point me to the relevant one? There doesn't seem to be a 1-1 correspondence between the newsgroup hirarchy and hte forums I can see at http://www.microsoft.com/communities/forums/default.mspx .
I will be doing a few upgrade on the forums today....expect things to get funky. If you find any errors, please report them here so I can get them fixed.
Just dropping by to check out the site. Looks awesome so far with some intense skills. I'm Beau and I live in Louisville, KY. Pretty new to having a computer that is decently fast. Looking forward to learning a lot more.
My interest in Vista Speech is limited to finding out why I am having trouble getting _consistent_ speed/accuracy out of it. By accuracy I mean at least 98%, preferably 99%. By speed I mean at least 80 wpm. (plain everyday words, not technical words)
I normally speak at 160 wpm, so if I speak for two minutes, 320 words get changed to text. Of the 320 words, I expect 3 words to need correction, which takes another two minutes for me to do. 320 / 4 = 80 wpm on average...........
It would be easier for users of Vista to refer to discussions on specific topics if all the Forums are listed as Microdsoft Newsgroups. Taking into account the fact that there are already some Newsgroups for Vista, it becomes a duplicate effort to collate all the comments on a given Vista topic from the Forums and the newsgroups. The Forums also make life miserable by giving the time of posting a message as "so many hours or days or weeks in history". The Newsgroup method of giving the exact date and time when the message was posted makes it easy to search for a message. I also find that the Search function works far more efficiently in Newsgroups as compared with the Forums. The forum search draws a blank most of the times, whereas Newsgroup Search is successful most of the times. So why not add all the forums to the Newsgroups with the standard prefix of microsoft.vista? Besides, Outlook Express is far better organized for viewing discussions as conversations than the Forum organization.
Firefox crashed yesterday and now everytime I start it Im not logged into various forums so I have to keep logging in again. Ive tried clearing the cache files and OS temp folders.
When they didn't disappear on June 1st, there were all kinds of speculations going on, but now we know for sure: they are gone. All WinME ng's and the german ng. all gone by now, with the click of the mouse. Can someone reiterate where to turn instead for sharing of pertinent information?
I keep getting emails from a non-computer literate person I know who has Vista on their machine and cannot post to Yahoo groups when she could before using Windows XP..Any list of " How To's " out there to allow them to post to yahoo groups with Vista on their machine ?
I went lurking in the Microsoft Discussion Groups. My problem is I couldn't find a category for any Microsoft Office products or Microsoft Secutrity Essentials. Maybe I didn't look long enough. If I did and there are no categories for these products here why do we need to go to a separate forum for these. Why aren't they all in the same place? Also is there a way to filter the categories so I can only be exposed to the microsoft categories?
I use Outlook for my e-mails. Unfortunately, Outlook does not have access to news groups. When I go to Mail to get access to the news groups, Mail downloads all of the e-mails since I last used Mail. It may have been weeks since my last use of Mail so the list is rather long (hundreds). Is there any way to stop downloading all of these e-mails that I have already dealt with on Outlook? Why does Outlook not provide access to Newsgroups?
Beginning last week, after following suggestions for solving a problem opening .jpg & .pdf file attachments with Windows Mail, I seem to have lost the toolbar icons "New Contact" and "New Contact Group." how to retrieve them?
All the help screens tell me to click on the 'Contacts" icon on the toolbar and this will show an option "New Contact Group" to set up contact groups for mail. Well it does not! I am a very long time computer user with years of experience and never had this problem with Outlook Xpress. I know how to set up groups but cannot find the path to it. I have Vista Ultimate.
I'm trying to organize and condense my Contacts by moving everyone into Groups. However, unlike OE, WM doesn't seem to allow me to move my individual contacts into groups; it only copies them, leaving me with more clutter than before. Is there any way I can do this in WM or, failing that, any third-party utility to help?

It's too time consuming to manually search through each of my 20 groups. The Help section claims that Windows Mail has all the features of Outlook Express. but the list of Groups a person belongs to is obviously missing. It looks like Microsoft is selling us a degraded product ("Address Book Minus" instead of "Address Book Plus") and is calling that an improvement!!!!
Please prove me wrong. Show me that I can display a list of Groups for each person. I rely heavily on Groups. Just for example, if I have multiple entries for the same person (with different email addresses), I can tell which one is the most current by looking at which email address is part of a recently set up Group. If Microsoft Mail is unable to show me a list of Groups for any one individual Contact, is there a way I can continue using Outlook Express under Windows Vista Ultimate x64?
When using XP/Outlook Express (OE) I was able to sort my 250+ addresses into Folders and Folders into Groups but Vista does not permit me to do it.Folders permitted me to sort by major catagories and Groups permitted me to send bulk distribution within a Folder. If I make a Contact Group in Vista if works like Groups in XP/OE sending mass distribution from the Vista Group.Anyone know how to bring this OE capability back into Vista?
I see no Microsoft Win7 groups yet. how good the built-in security is...especially with respect to root kits? After I got a root kit on my XP machine...I got a bit paranoid about using Windows
I can create a contact group by clicking on the "New Contact Group" on the toolbar. Problem is there is no "New Contact Group" item on my Vista Mail toolbar when using the Windows explorer. Despite looking through all the discussion group replies, and going to the suggested tutorial, I STILL can not get the 'New Contact Group' button to appear.
Subject: Windows Usability Systematic degradation flame. I am quite disappointed at how Windows Usability has been going backwards and the program management groups don't drive usability issues. Let me give you my experience from yesterday. I decided to download (Moviemaker) and buy the Digital Plus pack ... so I went to Microsoft.com. They have a download place so I went there.
The first 5 times I used the site it timed out while trying to bring up the download page. Then after an 8 second delay I got it to come up. This site is so slow it is unusable. It wasn't in the top 5 so I expanded the other 45. These 45 names are totally confusing. These names make stuff like: C: Documents and SettingsillgMy DocumentsMy Pictures seem clear..............
I am trying to send an email to a group of 34 people and Windows Mail will not let me send it. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how do I fix it?
