Vista started giving a blue screen a couple of days ago. Mentioned something about a bad device, but no new devices have been added. Went through the typical steps, tried to boot in safe mode and got the following errors:
AtBroker.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Click OK.
Explorer.exe The application failed to initialize properly. Blue Screen
Then booted to my install dvd, tried to fix errors. Came back with a failed check at the file system integrity check. Ran the check a second time and no errors are found. Can't boot in safe mode, and when i try to repair errors I get no errors found.
i have is that since i have updated to SP1, my net connection keeps dropping. the network symbol has a '!' over it and i have to click on diagnose and repair and reset the network adapter. this happens mostly when browsing the internet (on Firefox or IE) but sometimes happens when i first start an online game up (cod or war etc). i use a netgear router and have done for the past 3 years and never had a problem. the net connection its self (on the router) does not drop and therefore it has to be a problem with my computer (tested this while having 2 computers running at same time and the connection only dropped on the problem computer). when the connection drops, i cannot ping my router (no lights on the router change - still states the net is connected).
I've tried updating my Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter. however when attempting to do this through Device Manager, it says its fully up-to-date. even though the driver date is 17/4/07. I've attempted to update this manually, but i either have to pay for it or I'm asked to download device detective and asked to pay for the download... there are no drivers on the windows updates for this... or at least don't appear on the list.
I recently purchased a new PC with 64 bit vista installed. When I first got started connecting my entertainment center, everything seemed fine with my network. However, the automatic update seems to have overwritten my network configuration from the original. The PC automatically loses its connection about every 1 minute, then establishes a new connection for about 1 minute. After resetting the modem and router, the problem went away; that is until I had to reboot my machine. So, now I have to reboot my modem, router and PC at roughly the same time to get an internet connection that doesn't constantly drop and reconnect. how to keep the connection good between boots, so I don't have to reset the modem and router?
View 8 Replies View Relatedsince i formated and reinstalled vista home primium 32 for the first time with this pc im getting very low frame rates on most games. they are fine for about 5mins and then the frame rate drops to 5-20 fps for a short time, afterwards its fine for 10secs only to drop again. ive noticed it on some streaming videos too but not in Internet. ive tried...reinstalling, installing xp, using older drivers, using new ones, checked the fan are working, downloaded system monitors, took a stick of ram out, swapped all the ramround,tried playing with no sound, messed around with the dna settings, turned graphics down and a few other things thats not coming to mind.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy home is such that all my broadband to myPCs has to be wireless (the only place they could connect the cable was in an obscure, upstairs bedroom). In general this has worked just fine. I have 3 PCs currently connected to the network, One desktop and a laptop running XP and my new laptop running Vista (new is relative, I've been having this problem since January 2009 when I got the Vista laptop).
The two XP machines connect to the network just fine. Occasionally, when I work on the desktop, I'd see a notification icon that it has connected to the network, but in general I have no interruptions to my network connections. The Vista machine (Vista Ultimate, SP 2) is a nightmare. the WiFI connection keeps dropping. Additionally, often it would report that the network is connected, but in reality, nothing is reachable and I have to disconnect/connect to the network before any Internet site is reachable......
I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. I am having the same issues as the people with the 3945's. What happens is that I can access local network but not internet.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an hp g6032ea laptop with vista home premium. it was recently dropped and now on start up all we get is a black screen with operating system not found. I suspect that the hard drive is either scratched or cracked as it makes a rather ominous clicking sound. I have a brand new 160gb hard drive which i have fitted and a recovery disc which i purchased from HP as the machine did not come with one. when the new drive is inserted if I boot from the recovery cd it starts the process then puts up a message stating that the laptop is not supported by the recovery disc and switches itself off.

I have a Vista 64x workstation since Nov 08 which has been fine until recently. It has started having network problems when accessing large numbers of files from remote locations. I have a readyNAS network storage device with a number of shares which are mounted as network drives on the PC, wired ethernet. Vista is set up as a private network and set to trust the LAN. The readynas is flawless when accessed from other XP and Vista machines on the LAN.
Recent example, tried loading on photos from a camera, approx 700 files. Went fast at first, but over 300 files, copying would slow to a crawl - 16Kb. While this is happening, other LAN access and internet access becomes intermittent. If I use picasa, which accesses all photos on the remote drive, it'll work for a while but then crawl, only in this case the whole machine slows down. I've tried disabling auto-tuning but that made no difference.
I will be doing a few upgrade on the forums today....expect things to get funky. If you find any errors, please report them here so I can get them fixed.

I normally speak at 160 wpm, so if I speak for two minutes, 320 words get changed to text. Of the 320 words, I expect 3 words to need correction, which takes another two minutes for me to do. 320 / 4 = 80 wpm on average...........
Could one of the MVPs send the server and groupnames for the defender application.

It would be easier for users of Vista to refer to discussions on specific topics if all the Forums are listed as Microdsoft Newsgroups. Taking into account the fact that there are already some Newsgroups for Vista, it becomes a duplicate effort to collate all the comments on a given Vista topic from the Forums and the newsgroups. The Forums also make life miserable by giving the time of posting a message as "so many hours or days or weeks in history". The Newsgroup method of giving the exact date and time when the message was posted makes it easy to search for a message. I also find that the Search function works far more efficiently in Newsgroups as compared with the Forums. The forum search draws a blank most of the times, whereas Newsgroup Search is successful most of the times. So why not add all the forums to the Newsgroups with the standard prefix of microsoft.vista? Besides, Outlook Express is far better organized for viewing discussions as conversations than the Forum organization.

I'm 15 years old and live in PEI, Canada. My future plans are to build my own desktop computer by the end of the summer, I'll be saving up all my money from here to then to do this. However, I'd be doing it now but I recently bought a playboy cell-phone and that took a chunk out of my change, well, my familys change which I basically use as my own. I'm getting a full-time job in the summer to start building computers. My further goal is to start my own business, building and repairing computers. Sounds crazy considering I'm 15, doesn't it? Well, yeah, I know but I know I can do it. The most I've done though is swapped out hard-drives on my notebook computer and swapped out ram on my own.

In the title bar of the pop up it says," set web site rule" They aren't advertising pop ups. They are pop up windows generated by my own computer seeminglhy to try to get my permission about something. It gets to where I am doing nothing but clicking on the buttons of those pop ups as they come up one after the other after the other. It practically makes me want to throw my computer across the room!!!
View 8 Replies View Relatedthe first problem that I have had since using Vista. I use Snapfish to upload pictures from my digital camera. I have had no trouble getting into that site until yesterday. Now I cannot load www.snapfish.com, but I can load all other web sites that I normally use. I've re-booted the computer and the modem, and run the Vista diagnostics, but cannot find the reason for being able to load any other web site but not www.snapfish.com. I am able to load it using a Wi-Fi laptop, but not using my desktop.

The sender is in the Safe Sender List and all possible settings have been checked as to the cause. Running Vista Ultimate 32 Bit. It is not a firewall setting and nor is the router firewall doing this. Identical machine with identical software runs perfectly as far as displaying HTML E-Mails in all their glory.

It hs been a bit sporadic. For example I just hit Send/Receive three times in a row. The first two times it went fine, the third time it asked fo my info again.
I have an ftp site and I have a short term need for a number of not so computer literate people to download items from it. I'd like to be able to send a link in email and have them all just click and go to the site - or - just have a download start. The extent of my http knowledge stops with setting up the site and paying he bill.

All of a sudden, starting yesterday, when I try to browse here to this forum, IE and Firefox both tell me they can't find this site. If fact, it takes me to a site with a similiar name.. vista64.com with no x. This only happens with this forum and one other and only from home on this computer. I can browse all over the place on the internet without a problem. I have no problem browsing here from work. I have made no changes or updates on the computer within the last 48 hours. I downloaded the latest IE security update from Windows this morning which allowed me here for one session and then went back to telling me the site didn't exist. Windows Defender full scan says all clear, Norton says all clear. I have also cleared my cache on both browsers and cookies as well. The only reason I got here now is because I accessed a cached site on a google search, which sometimes works and sometimes not.

I tried to get on to Genes Reunited,to which i am a member & the web pages comes up,i put in my email addy & password to gain access to my tree,i click on the button for my family tree & once on there my tree isn't there,it's gone,just a blank page. All it says is please select & click on my tree & nothing i click on it again & again & nothing it's gone, all 3,000 names everything! I also tried to get on to my contacts trees & still nothing. I contacted Genes Reunited them & they said there is nothing wrong with it. I went to my friends & used her laptop & i can view my tree from there.
