I'm trying to organize and condense my Contacts by moving everyone into Groups. However, unlike OE, WM doesn't seem to allow me to move my individual contacts into groups; it only copies them, leaving me with more clutter than before. Is there any way I can do this in WM or, failing that, any third-party utility to help?

Beginning last week, after following suggestions for solving a problem opening .jpg & .pdf file attachments with Windows Mail, I seem to have lost the toolbar icons "New Contact" and "New Contact Group." how to retrieve them?

I could see a list of all the Groups that the person belongs to. In Windows Mail Contacts. I successfully imported all my Contacts and Groups. But. is there a way to find out which Groups a person belongs to? It's too time consuming to manually search through each of my 20 groups. The Help section claims that Windows Mail has all the features of Outlook Express. but the list of Groups a person belongs to is obviously missing. It looks like Microsoft is selling us a degraded product ("Address Book Minus" instead of "Address Book Plus") and is calling that an improvement!!!!
Please prove me wrong. Show me that I can display a list of Groups for each person. I rely heavily on Groups. Just for example, if I have multiple entries for the same person (with different email addresses), I can tell which one is the most current by looking at which email address is part of a recently set up Group. my machine says I need to permission to move a folder to another? It first says "I'll need to provide admin permission to move this folder", then I see a file operation window, then another You need permission window with a try again and cancel button. Whats going on here? This UAC is proving to be more anoying then good. I'm pretty sure it's why I could not connect to a FTP server through a game to download an update.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently changed a folder name to an alt code which shows up as a blank space.It shows up as this without parenthesis.() Now that I've done that I can't move the file to anywhere, rename it, and I can't delete too. I right click it and hit delete but no confirmation comes up asking if I want to or not. No message saying it's in use or anything. If I try to rename it it reverts back to the invisible characters. I also can't move the file to anywhere else from my desktop. I've been trying for awhile now can't do anything with it

I am unable to choose a recipient from Outlook 2007 Contacts correctly to use in Windows Fax & Scan. When I click on the To: Button in Windows Fax & Scan I only get three columns shown. Name, Display Name and E-mail Address. If the intended recipient does not have an email adress their name does not appear. What am I setting up incorrectly. I can not see an option in Windows Fax & Scan. Is it a Outlook setting.

1/ LDIF
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under an LDIF format.
I then imported this LDIF file within Contacts
The import stops 1/5 of the way, simply saying that there is an error
in the contacts, and it stays stuck
2/ CVS
I exported my contacts in Thunderbird under a CVS file. I then tried to import the file within Contacts but cannot do the mapping:
- all column headings are lumped together, with plenty of ","
- all accentuated caracters are replaced by squares
Also, with the LDIF method, 50 contacts out of 300 were imported. In these imported contacts, all accentuated caracters were replaced by symbols. I opened the CVS file in Microsoft Excel: everything is fine.
I installed Outlook 2003 on my computer which has Vista Ultimate so I could use a Dell Axim. Now when I go to fax a document using Windows Fax and Scan and try to select a contact, Outlook Contacts is displayed instead of Windows Contacts. It won't let me choose to use Windows Contacts either. I tried using Default Programs to associate Windows Contacts with it's defaults but that didn't work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been trying for hours, now. My problem is that the contacts fields get all mixed up because they were outlook and them gmail, and now back to outlook 2007. But when I try to export them to Windows Vista Contacts I loose all information. My outlook 2007 is a trial version and will expire next time I turn it on, so I have to get it done today.

I don't even have theupdate usually associated with this (ends with a 28). I have changed my folder type to "contacts" and that doesn't workeither. Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I can't believe Microsoftis still hasn't figured out this problem after this long.

Maybe I didn't look long enough. If I did and there are no categories for these products here why do we need to go to a separate forum for these. Why aren't they all in the same place? Also is there a way to filter the categories so I can only be exposed to the microsoft categories?

When I go to Mail to get access to the news groups, Mail downloads all of the e-mails since I last used Mail. It may have been weeks since my last use of Mail so the list is rather long (hundreds). Is there any way to stop downloading all of these e-mails that I have already dealt with on Outlook? Why does Outlook not provide access to Newsgroups?

I am a very long time computer user with years of experience and never had this problem with Outlook Xpress. I know how to set up groups but cannot find the path to it. I have Vista Ultimate.

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen using XP/Outlook Express (OE) I was able to sort my 250+ addresses into Folders and Folders into Groups but Vista does not permit me to do it.Folders permitted me to sort by major catagories and Groups permitted me to send bulk distribution within a Folder.If I make a Contact Group in Vista if works like Groups in XP/OE sending mass distribution from the Vista Group.Anyone know how to bring this OE capability back into Vista?

Problem is there is no "New Contact Group" item on my Vista Mail toolbar when using the Windows explorer. Despite looking through all the discussion group replies, and going to the suggested tutorial, I STILL can not get the 'New Contact Group' button to appear.

The first 5 times I used the site it timed out while trying to bring up the download page. Then after an 8 second delay I got it to come up. This site is so slow it is unusable. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the Vista program Windows Contacts in conjunction with using email programs. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. I like to use Outlook 2000 as my email program. I have the same problem if I use Windows Mail as my email program. I can use Outlook to send and receive email, but I cannot add any contacts to Windows Contacts. Also when creating a new email, if I click on the To… button to get to Windows Contacts, I get the error message “The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If this problem persists, restart Outlook.”, which of course does not help.
I am not sure, but I think I created the problem by importing Outlooks 2000 contacts from my old PC in an improper format into Outlook 2000 on my new Vista PC (which is where the problem is).
I've attempted to send my old contact list to 'Windows mail' but have not been successful at this point. What am I doing wrong?

Created new email - tried to send - still couldn't. Error message - unable to connect to smpt server. Have gone to tols - accounts - servers - re-entered info.
