My sound was working perfectly and then I inserted the Upgrade Your Windows Vista Experience disk. A red X appeared next to the speaker icon on my thing tray. When I click on it it says "no audio output device is installed". Did the disk wipe out my "audio output device"? Any way of getting it back? Downloading? Getting Microsoft to fix?
View 6 RepliesI have a Aspire AM5620-E5301A Acer computer. On Acer it has Windows Vista Premium Home. I bought Windows Ultimate software to put on my Acer computer. It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. It was a store bought software it was cheaper than Acer price they offer. What is the problem with installing Ultimate with Acer computer?

She is currently running XP, but the hardware is old enough that I cannot simply swap the MBs, because a new board will need a different HAL. I was thinking about installing XP and migrating applications. I was wondering what would happen if I cloned her disk to a SATA disk and installed a Vista upgrade on top of the XP disk. I would run setup and provide the appropriate drivers at the F6 prompt. She has used Vista on occasion when we are out-of-town. I have a separate userID on my laptop that is configured to look as much as possible like XP. The question is whether a Vista upgrade would work on top of an XP image that used a lot of older hardware.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a logitech webcam it had a built in mic and all that jazz, before I installed it I had a Sound Blaster XFi Xtreme Audio sound card in there, it worked fine no issues. When I hooked in and installed my logitech webcam my microphone no longer works on my headset I dunno if i disabled somethign or what I tried doing a system restore but to no avail.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI guess SigmaTel is famous for putting out pretty ****ty audio hardware/software because a lot of people claim to having had problems with thier sound cards...Anyway, I have no sound coming from my speakers what so ever except for the windows error beep. Theres an "x" on the speakers on the taskbar. The device name is there and claims to be working when I hover over the speaker sys. tray icon, also in device manager and in playback devices. Although the Levels tab in Sound>Speakers/Headphones>Properties is completely empty. The Volume Mixer claims there is NO audio device installed even tho' its there when I hover on the speaker icon. I've tried uninstalling and installing just about everything possible from both gateway and windows but the problem persists...

I checked the Help page about this subject, and found out that the drivers or my "PnP Audio Device" are not up to date (there is a yellow triangle with !-mark in front of it). I tried to update them via Device Manager, but it didn't work.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSometimes, after installing MS updates or other apps, I lose my sound. The only way I get it back is to use System Restore to a point where the sound worked. However, then I don't have the updates or apps. This tells me that it's a software problem with Vista - not a hardware problem. Now, I am about 11 MS updates behind - and no sound. Also, the System Restore doesn't work anymore (I no longer have a Restore point where the sound worked). I've Googled and have found that many people have similar problems with their HP laptops. I am using Vista, SP-2. I am now going to ionstall the updates since I can't go back to get the sound. I've checked in Device Manager (no problem) and made sure I'm using the most recent signed driver. I can't find any text indication that I have a problem but when I go to Playback Options and try the sound Test, I get a message which says the sound didn't play. Hope I included all the relevant information. If not, please tell me. I've tried everything I know of. I have a full backup of my hard drive
View 7 Replies View RelatedI just installed Vista Home Premium onto my pc, and everything seems to be running ok, except for the sound. No matter what application I run, my sound seems to skip a lot. It's most noticeable when listening to music or TV. Various media players don't make a difference, and it acts like my pc is starving for resources. I've got a 3.2Ghz cpu w/2Gb of memory and plenty of hard drive space. 256Mb ATI video card, and Audigy sound card, but it looks like Vista makes the applications run off of the virtual memory, even when nothing else is running. Is anyone having issues like this? I've disabled services and features till I'm blue in the face. Nothing seems to help, although increasing CPU priority for the process seems to make it better, but it's still skipping.

View 5 Replies View Relatedhere is what i like to do right now i have window 7 on a brand new [500]hard drive .tomorrow i will get my brand new [250] hard drive and i like to install vista on it .but not using dualboot .but all i have is a upgrade cd that came with my computer when i got it in 2007 is that possible to do. i am not to good with computer .am 66 and no school. so all i will do is turn off my pc and disconnect the red cable from w-7 and connect it to the vista drive .and leave the power connected on the 2 drive maybe one time a month.

So I got out my XP disk and tried to reinstall that, but it won't install (apparently it's a bug that is known with this computer and many others, it needs SP2 to install, but it's a pre-SP2 XP disk). Why do Microsoft have to make it so difficult for genuine purchasers of their products?! how I can fix this? I don't need XP any more, I just want to install Vista, it should be simple...

What I have however is a x86 Vista Ultimate disk, that I downloaded from microsoft MSDN website. From what I know, this disk is for a brand new and clean install of vista ultimate.
Can I use this disk to upgrade my home premium to ultimate. I certainly dont want to loose my programs/files on my current laptop, so I absolutely dont want a clean install, and am afraid to mess things up if I accidentally use wrong disk. So can I use the MSDN downloaded vista ultimate disk to perform the upgrade or should I buy a upgrade disk from somewhere?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an old machine i am giving away and decided to use the free upgrade disk sent to me back in 2007. It installed fine and I got SP1 on it and cleaned it up. After everything was done I noticed the E-Machines recovery partition was wiped. Is this because I now have the Vista upgrade disk with the # on that for the COA? Not the sticker on the machine.....I had to activate it with the # on the upgrade disk. I can't figure out why it would wipe the recovery partition with the factory XP image on it. Will this disk work if the next owner needs to do an install? Have you heard of this happening with OEM upgrade disks?

She bought her computer from Dell and about a year ago I had bought a computer from dell that came with Windows XP Pro. I would really like to have Vista on this computer and I was wondering if it was possible to use the "Operating System Reinstall Disk" to install Windows Vista Ultimate onto my computer. Neither of us bought cheap systems and with the amount of money we both paid it almost seems like it shouldn't matter that I would be able to do this.
But obviously thats probably not the case. But anyway, I was wondering if their was a limit to how many times I could use this disk and CD key. I was told it was two times, but I'm not sure and I don't want to try to install it and then not be able to use my computer because I'd have to buy another CD key or product license whatever. If anyone could answer my question: Will I be able to install this with no problems and not having to buy another Vista Ultimate and at the same time still have the CD work if one of us should need to reinstall Vista in case something goes wrong?
I want to reformat my computer and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit as my operating system. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

I keep getting a yellow exclamation point on windows start navigation sound I can go in and select it and it works for the time it is selected. but as soon as I reboot the yellow exclamation point comes back how do I fix this can someone help me please it annoying and aggravating to have to turn that on all the time. I even did a system restore back to yesterday thinking I did something to it no go still dose it. nothing else broken all works good sound everything just not this one.

Meaning when I record something, it would record whatever is playing on the computer. But I forgot how to make that setting.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Vista U x64 and am having sound problems. I have a prelude x-fi sound card but the sound coming out of it is extremely low. I have maxed out every thing I can max (control panel sound, creative panel) and the sound level is whisper quiet. I have also upgraded all my drivers except the prelude's, I would but their website isn't offering those drivers at the moment. But the drivers supplied with the card are vista certified so I should get something. But my mobo, etc is all updated. I have been searching for a solution for two days to no avail.
