It starts to load up OK, put in the key number in than next step is. To pick custom install or upgrade install, but upgrade choice is grey out. It is disable from using the upgrade choice, I want to choose to pick. I did not purchase Windows Ultimate through Acer anytime upgrade option. My sound was working perfectly and then I inserted the Upgrade Your Windows Vista Experience disk. A red X appeared next to the speaker icon on my thing tray. When I click on it it says "no audio output device is installed". Did the disk wipe out my "audio output device"? Any way of getting it back? Downloading? Getting Microsoft to fix?

I want to reformat my computer and install Vista Ultimate 64-bit as my operating system. I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

I have a laptop with 64-bit Home Premium. The warranty expires in June. I want to upgrade to Ultimate. I haven't checked out the Anytime Upgrade yet. Will I be able to get the 64-bit upgrade to Ultimate or is a 32-bit upgrade to Ultimate the only upgrade path?

Will XP's 'execution stay' for emerging markets apply to other countries? Posted by Mary Jo Foley Speculation continues to swirl as to when and whether Microsoft will extend the June 30, 2008, cut-off date on which many PC makers will be expected to cease bundling Windows XP with new PCs. But some pundits seem to have forgotten that when Microsoft initially granted Windows XP five more months to live, back in 2007, the company left itself a loophole. (And I don't mean just the early 2009 cut-off date it granted white-box vendors/system builders). Late last year, Microsoft officials said that vendors preloading Windows on PCs aimed at "emerging markets" wouldn't have to stop selling Windows XP until 2010.
From Microsoft's September 27, 2007, press release: "(S)ince some of the systems that ship in emerging markets don't meet the requirements for Windows Vista, we will be extending availability of Windows XP Starter Edition to June 30, 2010. This will allow our OEM partners who sell PCs in emerging markets more opportunity to offer genuine Windows licenses."............

Has anybody here used the program EndItAll 2 with Vista? I was thinking about installing it to end background tasks & such in order to play my games. Since Vista is such a resource hog, thought this might help with the performance of my game. I don't know which programs or anything that is running in the background to stop or end so thought this program "End It All" might help.

Why is is so that ever since I have been running Vista Ultimate my HDD led runs almost non stop. I have disabled Superfetch, Indexing and Defrag just to name a few in a vain attempt to track down why this happens. It appears to be normal with some but not all Vista installations. Before Vista came along this sort of activity would ring alarm bells. The System and Performance monitor shows it is updating system files but why does it need to do it 100% of the time. Hard drives are NOT built with a 100% duty cycle in mind. I need some knowledgable person who knows the complete answer to this problem.

Microsoft bashers , that right you know who you are . You people are sad. I never before seen such a bunch of low life to spend your time bashing Microsoft. Every company has its fault but with all its fault you seem to spend your time bashing them , you guys are true clowns. What make me laugh is all the free time you have wasting away . Why don't you try to use your wasted mind on creating a operating system . This way instead of bashing Microsoft you can bash yourself as to how stupid you really are. GET A LIFE AND GET OFF THIS NEWSGROUP CLOWN. Microsoft why can't you block there isp. Or give MVP the power to delete them . Either way something needs to be done to these morons. I have a new Dell with Windows Vista Business installed. I set it up to connect to the network printers and everything was fully operational. I was printing fine on 2/15/08. I came into work this morning 2/19/08 and when I try to print I get a message saying unable to print. I get the same message with 2 different canon printers and 1 hp laserjet printer. I tried removing the printer and reinstalling it and there was no change. I installed it locally and there was no change. I stopped and restarted the print spooler and there was no change. I cannot even print a test page.

I am running Windows Vista Business x64 SP2 with all the latest security updates. My problem is ALL of my web browsers simply stop working after a while. If i use IE 8 i get the message: "cannot display the web page". once i get this error i cannot even use any other browser, so Firefox / Safari / Chrome does not ever work. If i ping the website it works fine, so the connection isnt the problem. Technically the broswers dont crash they HANG. Firefox and IE close, but when you check task manager the process is still running, and you CANNOT close the process. the only way to fix this, is to restart and it is getting very annoying.

IE 7 users: stop looking at porn now!Written by Adam O'Donnell @ 10:39 pm 12/15/2008
Source: IE 7 users: stop looking at porn now! | Zero Day | ZDNet.com. Microsoft has reported sightings of exploitation of the recent vulnerability in IE7 on various porn sites. This isn’t really bad news, since no one looks at such improper things on the Internet, right?
According to an article posted late saturday night on Microsoft’s Threat Research Blog, approximately .2% of all worldwide users have been exposed to exploits against the data processing vulnerability, and the exploit is now appearing on pornography sites. If Microsoft’s numbers are correct, that means millions of systems may have been freshly compromised over the past few weeks. I would be surprised if we don’t see an uptick in the knock-on effects of more compromised systems, including higher levels of spam and credit card fraud. Since there is no patch for the IE problem as of right now, your best bet is to use an alternative browser such as Firefox, Opera, or even the Windows version of Safari. Remember, when you are browsing strange websites, it is important to use protection. You don’t know what kind of diseases they may have.
