Msn Messenger Install New Version Does Not Work
Nov 23, 2009
I can't use MSN messenger unless I install a newer version, but this doesn't work. When I run the installer i get the following error message: "messenger couldnt be installed because we had trouble installing these requirements: * Microsoft Application Error Reporting Try installing Windows Live programs again. Program were not installed because the installation was canceled. aborted:0x80004004. * Microsoft Visual Studio Runtime Try installing Windows Live programs again. Programs were not installed because the installation was cancelled. aborted:0x80004004 * Windows live call. The installer has insufficient prviliges to access this directory; :programdatamicrosoftWindowsstartmenuprogramswindows live. The installer cannot continue. Log on as adminstrator or contact your system administrator. Please close all other programs and then try again. It looks like another program is preventign the installer from working. hr:0x80070643.
I tried quite a bit:
- I am admininistrator and have all rights.
- Downloaded the installer and ran it as administrator
- Downloaded the whole file (wlsetup-all.exe, 134MB) and tried to run it (as administrator), instead of the installer itself (wlsetup-custom.exe, 1mb).....

I upgraded my pc and bought Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, and i would like to install Windows vista Business 64bit. How can i do it? I took ultimate because it was the only version i could find (in my area anyway) that had a 64bit version in the box. But i don't want the media center, the high definition, and all the multimedia stuff. All of these ultimate "extras" are of no use whatsover to me. So my question is basically can i install the Business version with my ultimate key ? (is it "downwards" compatible in a way ?). I don't understand why ultimate is the only one with 64bit in the box. It doesn't make sense to me. It would have been much more logical for the Business version to be the one with 64bit in the box.

I know how to use a Windows 7 DVD to delete or alter the files so I can use the DVD (or Flash drive) to re-install or repair Windows 7 machines, but I am running into more Vista machines. I have a Vista Ultimate DVD I purchased. I would like to simply modify the files so I can re-install or repair Vista machines. (any version) How is this done? It must be possible. With Windows 7 it's simple, just delete the ie.cfg file, but I cannot seem to figure it out with Vista.

I'm trying to see 'thumbnail' previews of graphic files (Microsoft Photodraw ..mix extension, adobe illustrator .ai, photoshop .psd, etc.) which ALL worked in Windows XP but now they do not work in Vista. I had a prior thread on there than said to do the following, but that does not work. Any idea on how to use the 32 bit windows explorer on a 64 bit vista o/s to show thumbnail previews of graphic files?..........

Currently My Vista Home Premium SP1, 32bit, has IE7 running and I downloaded IE8 from the official MS site. Questions: 1. Is it advisible to have IE8 in my system? And if so, 2. Can I just install IE8 over the old version, or is there a special procedure? And if so, 3. What does it consist of? Open-Minded.

I posted a thread yesterday about problems with uninstalling programs. Which in the end I managed to do successfully. But I have a new problem. At the moment I am trying install a new version of Itunes which I downloaded from the website. However I have tried repeatedly to install but my computer continues to say that the administrator has set policies to prevent the installation. Also that I do not have sufficient access and to contact the system administrator. Is there a way I can get around this? If not who would be the system administrator that I would contact?

I have a fairly new HP a6110 desktop that has its own special restore = partition on the "C" drive that can be accessed from the boot menu. My issue is that I have a legitimate version of Vista Ultimate that I = would like to install, but I have heard some horror stories that the way = the HP is set up, that it will not allow this - Indeed that it will not = even allow a "clean" install of the Vista Ultimate and will crash the HD = id I try? Is this true and also, is it possible to upgrade to Vista Ultimate by an = upgrade over the Home Premium? If it is possible - what do I need to do to install Vista Ultimate?

Install Vista by following one of the guides below:
Clean install from an Upgrade Disk
Clean install with a full version of Vista
Then download and install Vista Service Pack 1
Vista 32 bit: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone
Vista 64 bit: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone for x64-based Systems
Then download and install Vista Service Pack 2. 32bit: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Five Language Standalone. 64bit: Windows Vista Service Pack 2 Five Language Standalone for x64-based Systems. Once Vista and both service packs are installed and you are at the desktop, install only your Security software (eg Anti Virus, Firewall etc) and update them........

I recently installed Office 2007 on a new Vista 64 bit system. I was unable to install my previous version of WordPerfect Office 12. When using WP on my previous Windows XP system, I was able to go into the word processor, click open, go to the wp folder (where I kept all my documents) and do a search based on a particular word I was looking for. For example, I could type in the word "hebrew" in the files box and each document file that contained that word (not only in the file name but in the contents of the file) was listed. I could then preview the contents of each document file and open the one I wanted.
Does this feature work in Word 2007 under Vista 64? I have only been able to find a file name with the word I type, even though I know many other document files contain the word I type in the files box. This has been very frustrating because it means I have to preview every file to find the one I want rather than just the files with the typed word in its contents.

If I get the OEM version, I know that a restriction in the license means it cannot be transferred to another computer. I need to get clarification on the following:
1) What happens if my computer crashes and I am told I have to reformat the hard drive and re-install Windows? Am I forced to buy a new license?
2) What if I want to have a backup hard drive, or upgrade my existing hard drive to a bigger one? If it's the same computer and only the hard drive is upgraded or a second one added, does that mandate a new license?

I purchased a new PC in early 2007 that came with XP. A month or so later I received the Vista upgrade CD which I have never installed. I intend to buy Windows 7 when it becomes available and wish to minimize my system upgrade problems as much as possible. Based on my understanding I would have to do a complete harddrive erase to install Win 7 and then reinstall all my applications. If possible and practical I'd like to upgrade XP to Vista and then Vista to Windows 7. My question am I likely to have problems going from a current up to date version of XP to a 2+ year old version of Vista which would require many updates to bring up to the current level?.

Everything I've read said that doing a clean install would delete all of my files during the process which is what I needed. I wanted everything off of my computer except what came on it. I called myself doing it correctly but when I checked, none of my files were gone and my Recovery D drive has no space left which is why I needed to do a clean install in the first place.

My thinkpad laptop runs Windows Vista. the wireless worked ok before I install Vista SP1. After installing SP1, I only can actually view my wireless connections, I see everything, but upon connecting I get the "Connection is taking longer than usual" crap. I reinstalled the drivers, but no go. When Vista does the diagnostics, it says "The network adapter 'wireless network connection' is not correctly configured to use the IP protocol'". Then, there are two options below. 1 is about hardware and driver issues, the other is about the internet protocol bindings and IPv4 and Ipv6 being installed (which they are).

I am really frustrated. I installed SP2 on my 32 bit Vista Ultimate and it failed on stage 3 of 3 at 100% and rewound itself and rebooted. I then tried my 64 bit system and it installed fine. Tried my 32bit system again and it failed so bad I had to restore C from a backup. Even a recovery would not work. Then did searches as to why this may be happening and tried all the bits advised. Ran the SFC and it reported errors and said it fixed them, ran it again and it found no errors, did the rearm thing even though I did not use any betas and my version is activated, ran the SP2 readyness and it reports no errors, have no disk management software installed so that is not the issue but everytime after it gets to stage 3 of 3, 100% it sits there for ages spinning the disk and then fails and reverts the changes.
Have used the online update and also the standalone update and that reports an E_FAIL (0x80004005). The log file that is produced is huge and gives so much information you can't make head nor tail out of it. I am certainly not taking MS's option and doing a complete reinstall as then I would have to reinstall all of my software and bother heaps of companies for activations again.
