View 9 RepliesI upgraded my pc and bought Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, and i would like to install Windows vista Business 64bit. How can i do it? I took ultimate because it was the only version i could find (in my area anyway) that had a 64bit version in the box. But i don't want the media center, the high definition, and all the multimedia stuff. All of these ultimate "extras" are of no use whatsover to me. So my question is basically can i install the Business version with my ultimate key ? (is it "downwards" compatible in a way ?). I don't understand why ultimate is the only one with 64bit in the box. It doesn't make sense to me. It would have been much more logical for the Business version to be the one with 64bit in the box.

I bought Vista Ultimate upgrade. However when I try and install and upgrade
to Premium I get a message saying.
You need a newer version of this software to upgrade.
I am running Vista SP1. It offers to do a clean install, which I do not want.
What does Ultimate want? It is so vague.
If it is an upgrade it certainly does not need a clean install.
I've been trying to upgrade from Home Premium to Ultimate, but the only available button is the clean installation, which I don't want to lose my files. I went to the help and support and checked to see if Premium to Ultimate was available without doing the clean installation, and yes, I should have the upgrade button. But why don't I have it?

Installed the upgrade using the key from the bottom of the PC when it asked for the current product key. No errors. Finishes the upgrade and restarts and still is running Home Premium. Why did ultimate not take? We need ultimate to login to a domain.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop with the Vista Home Premium 32 bit version installed. I am
thinking of upgrading my desktop from Windows 2000 to the same platform, since I would prefer to keep these two computers as look-alikes. Some desktops (e.g., Dell) are now sold with the 64 bit version. I am told that the 32-bit version will read up to only 3 GB of RAM, whereas the 64-bit version will read up to 4 GB (?).
If I were to install the 64-bit version on my desktop, are there other complications that I might run into when I attempt to run programs/exchange data on both systems? I also run some DOS programs from an earlier century;

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought retail upgrade vista home premium. Installed on my primary pc and ACTIVATED it. Had odd problems, fixed, then realized I really wanted the ultimate edition. So, bought retail ultimate upgrade. Wiped hard drive, installed XP pro, installed ultimate 64 from there. Now, here is the real question. I now have a perfectly good legal copy of home premium that is not being used. Can I use this copy on a different PC? BTW, it's too late to get a refund from MS, I missed that
window of opportunity.
Getting the following error on 2 computers. Tried the suggestion below but connector is still not installing. The version of the Connector software does not match the version of Windows Home Server. Make sure you are installing the correct version of the Connector software.
On your home computer, delete the %ProgramFiles%Windows Home Server folder if it exists. Then install the Connector software from the Software shared folder on your home server, rather than from the CD. (Perhaps you have an old CD.) Connect to YourServerNameSoftware Home Server Connector Software, and then run Setup.exe.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Office 2007 on a new Vista 64 bit system. I was unable to install my previous version of WordPerfect Office 12. When using WP on my previous Windows XP system, I was able to go into the word processor, click open, go to the wp folder (where I kept all my documents) and do a search based on a particular word I was looking for. For example, I could type in the word "hebrew" in the files box and each document file that contained that word (not only in the file name but in the contents of the file) was listed. I could then preview the contents of each document file and open the one I wanted.
Does this feature work in Word 2007 under Vista 64? I have only been able to find a file name with the word I type, even though I know many other document files contain the word I type in the files box. This has been very frustrating because it means I have to preview every file to find the one I want rather than just the files with the typed word in its contents.
