My issue is that I have a legitimate version of Vista Ultimate that I = would like to install, but I have heard some horror stories that the way = the HP is set up, that it will not allow this - Indeed that it will not = even allow a "clean" install of the Vista Ultimate and will crash the HD = id I try? Is this true and also, is it possible to upgrade to Vista Ultimate by an = upgrade over the Home Premium? If it is possible - what do I need to do to install Vista Ultimate?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI upgraded my pc and bought Windows Vista ultimate 64bit, and i would like to install Windows vista Business 64bit. How can i do it? I took ultimate because it was the only version i could find (in my area anyway) that had a 64bit version in the box. But i don't want the media center, the high definition, and all the multimedia stuff. All of these ultimate "extras" are of no use whatsover to me. So my question is basically can i install the Business version with my ultimate key ? (is it "downwards" compatible in a way ?). I don't understand why ultimate is the only one with 64bit in the box. It doesn't make sense to me. It would have been much more logical for the Business version to be the one with 64bit in the box.

I am running Vista SP1. It offers to do a clean install, which I do not want.
What does Ultimate want? It is so vague.
If it is an upgrade it certainly does not need a clean install.

Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

I have XP Pro on my desktop PC & I know that I can stop & disable services. I also know that some services depend on other services to run. So, I have some questions about Home Premium versus Ultimate. First question is: Will Home Premium allow one to stop & disable any services - any services at all?

While in Home Premium, I insert and run the VISTA Ultimate CD Select upgrade I have it connected to internet so it can retrieve updates. It goes though the process of upgrading but ends with a message similar to Windows could not configure one or more system components. It then reverts back to Home Premium. I have tried performing the upgrade both before and after installing updates to Home Premium- no difference..........

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo when I first bought my Gateway laptop it came with Vista premium, and sure it looked all nice and shinny, but once I tried to install my games and play them I got punched in the face by Microsoft. I got horrible frame rate with ALL my video games. Of course I researched if my games were compatible with Vista.
I know its Vista that makes my games run like crap cause just a month ago I installed XP on my top and got perfect frame rate with all my games. The only reason I went back to Vista is because I couldn't find all the proper drivers for my laptop with XP since its built and only supports Vista. It makes me cry a little inside cause my girlfriend has a Gateway laptop with worse system specs, yet she gets alot higher frame rate cause she uses XP, QQ.
So now comes to my topic; After all the research I did and tricks I tried to improve performance I heard, this was months ago btw, that there wa a service pack coming to Vista that would improve performance. So after hearing that and getting all hyped up I waited and waited... So now we come to today. I just installed SP1 and was kinda excited!
Please forgive me for not being very knowledgable, but I'm doing the best I can. I've got a laptop and I'm trying to install Vista Home Premium on it (I have no idea whether or not it's x64 or anything like that). I put in my product key and it works fine, but when it asks where I want it installed, it says "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style." No matter what I do, I cannot get it to work. I keep getting that same message. I don't know what to do.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI know that retail versions of Vista Ultimate come with media for both 32-bit and 64-bit installation and that the same product will work for either. Machines that are purchased with Vista pre-installed come with either 32-bit or 64-bit versions, but there is no way to change from a 32-bit version to a 64-bit version, ever if you have 64-bit hardware. The COA on the bottom of the machine says Vista Ultimate, but does not say 32-bit or 64-bit. I have been told that you can reinstall Vista onto machines that originally came with OEM versions of Vista using retail media and activate using the OEM-supplied product key. (This is different from XP, where retail disks will not activate using OEM product keys). My question is whether I can install Vista Ultimate from a retail 64-bit DVD (that is licensed onto a different machine) and activate using the OEM key and whether or not Microsoft thinks this is a legal use of their product.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI attempted to install Vista Ultimate 64 (w/SP1) with 4GB. Didn't work - BSOD. I took 1 stick out so now I had 2GB. After about 5 reboots, I finally got Vista to install. However, as soon as I'd install the latest gfx driver (175.16-Vista64) it would crash. I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft - they couldn't solve it. Called EVGA, they said they hadn't heard of any problems with the latest driver. I installed an older driver (169.25) and got it work. I never got the system stable, and I don't think it's the gfx card.
I tried installing Gears of War, which seemed to install just fine, however, if I started to do something else (I tried this twice) it would give me a BSOD. Then, I tried installing it and nothing else. It crashed on it's own giving me a BSOD. Another time I was just looking around the features in Control Panel and it crashed. Bottom line - it was never very stable.
I decided to format my drive and start fresh. This time, I could get the Vista disc to load and install, but it would crash at various places during install (sometimes after "Installing Features," but most of the time just before it would finish - so about 30-45 minutes into the installation). Installed the upgrade using the key from the bottom of the PC when it asked for the current product key. No errors. Finishes the upgrade and restarts and still is running Home Premium. Why did ultimate not take? We need ultimate to login to a domain.

I intend to buy Windows 7 when it becomes available and wish to minimize my system upgrade problems as much as possible. Based on my understanding I would have to do a complete harddrive erase to install Win 7 and then reinstall all my applications. If possible and practical I'd like to upgrade XP to Vista and then Vista to Windows 7. My question am I likely to have problems going from a current up to date version of XP to a 2+ year old version of Vista which would require many updates to bring up to the current level?.

But on my firefox or opera browser, it load the same site correctly with the java applets.
