Just got new PC w/Vista. When sending email messages, the entire email address is next to the TO name in outgoing messages. How do I format Windows Mail so the email address doesn't show in the outgoing messages. Privacy issues.

Since migrating to Windows Mail a year ago on a new PC running Vista, I've been unable to open, or to save and open, email attachments received in .pdf or .jpg format. When I try to open .pdf attachments, I get an error message reading, "This
file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." If I save a .pdf attachment in Adobe Reader and then try to open it, I get a message saying, "Adobe Reader could not open [file] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I run Adobe Reader 8. Where do I look to find a solution to this problem? Is it related to the similar problem with JPEG's?
I'm trying to take an Entry Form (PDF) format from an e-mail and fill it out and return via e-mail. I have tried copying form and pasting in word. Doesn't work. Then I printed out the form and scanned. Still no good. I am so confused and frusted. Can anyone tell me how to take a PDF File and fill it out.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIt's my new Sony ebook reader. It works fine on my old XP pc but not my Vista Home Premium laptop. I don't know how reformatting an actual reader would affect the device since every one at the Sony forum has only reformat their memory from the actual reader that has a reformat memory, you lose your books but all the Sony applications that runs the reader are still intact. Since I got this error, I've reformatted via the actual reader and still every time I plug my reader in my USB port, I get this error. I'm scared if I say yes that all the applications that makes the reader works will be wiped out. Here is the thread in the Sony Reader Forum of them trying to help me. When I try to format either a Philips DVD+RW disk or a Panasonic DVD-R disk, on either machine, after apparently going through the formatting procedure I get a message that Windows was unable to complete the format. It is strange that the identical issue is found on both machines. Could Vista be causing the issue? I would mention that I am able to format a CD-RW disk OK.

The answer was DEP (Data Execution Protection)was shutting it down to protect my computer..What's the problem??? View 9 Replies View Relatedi just bought My Book Essential 1 TB today... and when i got home i plug it and it works just fine but its bothering me that the HDD type is FAT32 .. so i format it and try to change it to NTFS.. but somethings happen and boom the electric in my apartment was down... and so when the electric back i want to format it again but i can't... there drive is detected but with no space detail... it says "Windows can't format Drive H: - Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again.
For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them" when i open the Disk Management from (My COmputer > Manage) it seems it's already a volume.. but the weird thing there is no space detail.. and i cant erase the volume ... i've tried using diskpart but i can't do nothing because there is no volume and i can't erase the disk... no luck with fsutil cause its not ntfs... I havent tried 3rd party software and i havent tried it on other computer (don't have other computer right now) and WDC didnt give live cd for formatting because all of them was in the drive... though i already redownload it but the program is useless..
Have my system built and everything seems ok. Post is good with no errors. Only (1) HDD and DVD connected now. During windows Vista 64 installation I eventually get the message "WINDOWS COULD NOT FORMAT A PARTITION ON DISK 0. THE ERROR OCCURRED WHILE PREPARING THE PARTION SELECTED FOR INSTALLATION. ERROR CODE 0x80070057". Do I need to update BIOS? HDD & DVD/CD show in BIOS as SATA 1 & SATA 2 by there names. So they are being recognized.

But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail then i no longer can receive in office mail client. Every time I open Windows Mail up, or the news groups, I get a message saying Windows mail isn't my default mail program, and asks if I want it to be. I click yes every time, but I will still get this message when I open Windows Mail again the next day. Everything's works OK after I click this message. No other errors or anything.

How stable is Windows Live Mail? Does it convert your old Windows Mail messages and keep storing messages on your computer, or only online? And what about Contacts? Is there something good to read to read about moving from Windows Mail to Windows Live Mail? The material at is pretty superficial.

(a) WM is more troublesome than WLM (in view of the greater complexity of WLM this seems improbable)?
(b) Many more people use WM (seems probable - I wonder what the figures are)?
(c) A higher proportion of technically savvy users are likely to be early adopters of Windows 7 who have to find an alternative to WM. Some then migrate to a non-Microsoft email client such as Thunderbird, while those that try WLM find they can master it with few problems (plausible)?
My feeling is that there seem to be an awful lot of folk hanging on to WM and that they might be put off updating to Windows 7 because neither WM (nor Outlook Express) will not be available (at least not in a securely supported version) to run on it. I am cross-posting this to both newsgroups and suggest that replies go to WM as it has the larger following.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to open a CD (*not* a CD-R or -RW) in Explorer, it often pops up a window asking how I want to format it. This is kind of silly for a non-writeable disc. If I click Cancel, it won't open the disc. Instead I have to let it try to format the disc and give up before it will open. A while back I called Dell support and was told to uninstall the CD drive and reboot. This fixed the problem once, but when I tried it again more recently it didn't help. I also tried turning on the Shell Hardware Detection service. That seemed to fix it for a while, but the problem has returned. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this? The system is running Home Premium and the drive is a PBDS CD/DVD burner. Autoplay is disabled. The dialog box that pops up is titled "Burn a Disc". It says "Prepare this blank disc", and has an edit box labeled "Disc title".

When I ask Vista Pro to do a straightforward format it blocks at 73% (roughly 1 terra). I have tried 3 times to get the same result so I thought that I would outsmart the system by making two partititions one of 976.56go and the second of 420.70go but although the first partition was accepted and formatted, the second format is blocked at 11%.
