I would like to format my hdd and reinstall windows, however, I have Office Pro2007 installed on the pc, and I have used all three licenses on the disks. Is there anyway to reinstall it without requiring an add'l license purchase? Will it know it was already on the pc?

What I was thinking to do was to format my hard drive and reinstall 64 bit when the time comes (when all the bugs are worked out). I'm not worried about buying a new graphics card and RAM, as that's expected..........................
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been fighting with this computer all day, and posting here is my last resort. Basically, this morning one of the users here attempted to use her Outlook profile and the computer could not find it. Upon investigating, it turned out that her AppData folder had been redirected erroneously. On this particular machine, for some reason, the User Shell Folders which we had redirected to our server RS-NS1 (for backup and DR purposes), kept redirecting to our OLD server RSSERVER. I set the correct locations once more and restarted, however this time when I attempted to log in, it showed "User name or password are incorrect". Confused, I tried again, then tried the domain Administrator account, my own domain account, and a few others...none of them worked. Thinking maybe I screwed up the registry, I did a System Restore, but that didn't fix it. I undid that SR and did a new one (this time to the checkpoint this morning prior to the user's first login) and nothing happened then either.
I have since re-joined the computer to the domain, attempted a Startup Repair (which I already knew wouldn't find anything...the computer was starting up fine), and then I stumbled across the local admin account I created when I was first configuring the computer. Imagine my surprise when that account logged in just fine. Using it, I discovered that there were 13 items listed in the Device Manager under Network Devices. The first one listed was the NIC, the second was a duplicate except for "Teefer2 Miniport" at the end. Teefer2, apparently, is a service run for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11's firewall (which we do not use, we have a separate hardware firewall in place). I removed the NIC driver and rebooted...now the NIC is the ONLY item listed in the Network Devices section, but the problem is still here. Any advice before I yank my hair out and do a format/OS reinstall?
want to format my hard drive and reinstall windows but its an OEM version of Vista Ultimate x64 I heard there may be problems and that it wont activate. I have the disc and all the keys etc. Also I want to install on another hard drive as the present one is too small and filling up quickly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI read the tutorial about deleting windows.old, and that's simple enough, but I have a few questions. I reinstalled after the BitDefender 64-bit fiasco yesterday. It went OK, and I found all the saved files in windows.old which I was afraid I had lost. I was particularly concerned about my video and recorded TV files, so, when I found them intact, I "moved" them back to the appropriate "public" folders. Now Media Center sees them just fine. The weird thing, though, is that when I go into Windows Explorer, the files still "exist" in both the normal public folder and in the place I found them in windows.old.
Since I know that I didn't have enough disk space to duplicate them, the problem has to be a pointer or shortcut, but I'm at a loss as to how to get rid of it. I can, if need be, get another drive and copy them off, but I hesitate to just delete the windows.old folder without knowing if I'm going to also delete the files that are supposedly in the public video and recorded TV folders. Neither do I want to copy all those files off if I don't need to. Can someone explain this further, point me to another thread or tutorial that I missed, or tell me what will happen to my files?
How could I reinstall my Windows Vista (currenlty Home Premium version) keeping my software installed and running as is? In previously released versions of Windows , as Windows XP, user could choose to repair the current installation of windows through setup. Is there a way to do a repair install like this?

I don't know how reformatting an actual reader would affect the device since every one at the Sony forum has only reformat their memory from the actual reader that has a reformat memory, you lose your books but all the Sony applications that runs the reader are still intact. Since I got this error, I've reformatted via the actual reader and still every time I plug my reader in my USB port, I get this error. View 4 Replies View RelatedI rec'd a message in my email regarding a problem that Ben949 was having with spell check in WM. You advised him to install WLM and provided the link. So I tried to install WLM again. I did it once before a few months ago and it didn't install properly. All my folders came over but most of them were empty. I tried to import the folders from my WM but it still didn't work. But I knew that WLM was coming out with a new version so I decided to give it a try using the link you provided for Ben949. I followed all the instructions but I can't find WLM anywhere. I looked in my programs and features and there are some items there for WL things but not WLM. And I use to get on startup WL Messenger and WL Today. WL Messenger comes up but with nothing in it and WL Today doesn't come up at all.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI do not have reinstall option on CD of windows vista, and i have found major problems after i do system restore, I just need to upgrade or doing something to reinstall windows on same folder as CD gives me new installation no upgrade, And i want replace installation to replace files and install windows again and keeping updates and upgrades i done to the windows. also, to keep software installed, i used to do that in windows XP but could not do it in Vista as no option for upgrade, or install windows on same folder so that not losing the files or programs installed.

Clicking yes just takes me to their website where there isn't a version of WMP for Vista, only for XP. From what I've found there isn't a way to reinstall WMP for Vista. However, it appears that Windows Live Photo Gallery is removed because the Restore Point was before "Live Gallery" was installed. file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel." If I save a .pdf attachment in Adobe Reader and then try to open it, I get a message saying, "Adobe Reader could not open [file] because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)." I run Adobe Reader 8. Where do I look to find a solution to this problem? Is it related to the similar problem with JPEG's?
i just bought My Book Essential 1 TB today... and when i got home i plug it and it works just fine but its bothering me that the HDD type is FAT32 .. so i format it and try to change it to NTFS.. but somethings happen and boom the electric in my apartment was down... and so when the electric back i want to format it again but i can't... there drive is detected but with no space detail... it says "Windows can't format Drive H: - Check to see that the disk and drive are connected properly, make sure that the disk is not read-only, and then try again.
For more information, search Help for read-only files and how to change them" when i open the Disk Management from (My COmputer > Manage) it seems it's already a volume.. but the weird thing there is no space detail.. and i cant erase the volume ... i've tried using diskpart but i can't do nothing because there is no volume and i can't erase the disk... no luck with fsutil cause its not ntfs... I havent tried 3rd party software and i havent tried it on other computer (don't have other computer right now) and WDC didnt give live cd for formatting because all of them was in the drive... though i already redownload it but the program is useless..
Have my system built and everything seems ok. Post is good with no errors. Only (1) HDD and DVD connected now. During windows Vista 64 installation I eventually get the message "WINDOWS COULD NOT FORMAT A PARTITION ON DISK 0. THE ERROR OCCURRED WHILE PREPARING THE PARTION SELECTED FOR INSTALLATION. ERROR CODE 0x80070057". Do I need to update BIOS? HDD & DVD/CD show in BIOS as SATA 1 & SATA 2 by there names. So they are being recognized.

She bought her computer from Dell and about a year ago I had bought a computer from dell that came with Windows XP Pro. I would really like to have Vista on this computer and I was wondering if it was possible to use the "Operating System Reinstall Disk" to install Windows Vista Ultimate onto my computer. Neither of us bought cheap systems and with the amount of money we both paid it almost seems like it shouldn't matter that I would be able to do this.
But obviously thats probably not the case. But anyway, I was wondering if their was a limit to how many times I could use this disk and CD key. I was told it was two times, but I'm not sure and I don't want to try to install it and then not be able to use my computer because I'd have to buy another CD key or product license whatever. If anyone could answer my question: Will I be able to install this with no problems and not having to buy another Vista Ultimate and at the same time still have the CD work if one of us should need to reinstall Vista in case something goes wrong?
When I try to open a CD (*not* a CD-R or -RW) in Explorer, it often pops up a window asking how I want to format it. This is kind of silly for a non-writeable disc. If I click Cancel, it won't open the disc. Instead I have to let it try to format the disc and give up before it will open. A while back I called Dell support and was told to uninstall the CD drive and reboot. This fixed the problem once, but when I tried it again more recently it didn't help. I also tried turning on the Shell Hardware Detection service. That seemed to fix it for a while, but the problem has returned. Anybody have any ideas how to fix this? The system is running Home Premium and the drive is a PBDS CD/DVD burner. Autoplay is disabled. The dialog box that pops up is titled "Burn a Disc". It says "Prepare this blank disc", and has an edit box labeled "Disc title".

When I ask Vista Pro to do a straightforward format it blocks at 73% (roughly 1 terra). I have tried 3 times to get the same result so I thought that I would outsmart the system by making two partititions one of 976.56go and the second of 420.70go but although the first partition was accepted and formatted, the second format is blocked at 11%.
