I m planning to buy a new computer with Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS. My favourite game ever is Might & Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven, and I wonder if it will play on Vista 64-bit? I've heard many games wont play on 64-bit os, so therefor i wonder if anybody have tried this game?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a magic packet sniffer set up on the PC to check if it is receiving packets. On my networked laptop I am trying to send magic packets. I'm using a wake on lan program from magicpacket.free.fr
So far I've sent packets using 4 different configurations:
1. IP address (192.168.100.150)

mac address (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx)

I have recently bought Heros of Might & Magic II and have successfully installed it on my laptop but everytime I try to play the game it crashes and I have to open Windows Task Manager to end the Program is it is not responding. I have tried it on my PC which also has windows and it runs fine. Also I have the demo of this game on my laptop which runs fine. how I can stop the program crashing on my latop?
View 4 Replies View RelatedRather than upgrade my existing Vista installation to SP1, I decided to reformat the disk and build a brand new installation. I downloaded the stand-alone SP1 file, and applied it immediately I'd finished the Vista installation, BEFORE plugging in any peripherals (not even the network cable).
I then connected the network cable and the various USB peripherals (printer, scanner, etc) one at a time, letting it find and install the relevant drivers. The end result is marvellous. The whole system is stable, clean, fast and responsive, and of course I've got rid of all the little "niggles" that I'd been living with since messing around with my old Vista installation over the past year).
The consensus on this newsgroup seems to be that - if your existing Vista installation is flakey - then SP1 isn't going to be a magic bullet. It won't fix a broken installation - it only fixes shortcomings in Vista itself. If you possibly can, I strongly recommend that you back up all your data, vapourise the existing installation and start over. I think you'll be very pleased with the outcome.
New to Vista and want to repartition the drive in my HP machine to utilize a C, D and E partition (OS, Data, 3rd party software). Partition Magic does not support Vista. Looking at the Disk Management in Vista, It looks like I can shorten the
current drive and add new partitions. The new partitions are Primary Partitions, not Extended as in XP. Is this the correct thing to do in Vista and create multiple Primary Partitions on the disk? I assume if I add a second disk drive it could also contain multiple Primary Partitions.
When I start HoMM everything is okay until i start a game either in multi player or single player. It begins to load and when it is done and about to begin a game it says. "This program has stopped working Windows will notify you if there is a solution".
View 4 Replies View RelatedI attempted to install Vista Ultimate 64 (w/SP1) with 4GB. Didn't work - BSOD. I took 1 stick out so now I had 2GB. After about 5 reboots, I finally got Vista to install. However, as soon as I'd install the latest gfx driver (175.16-Vista64) it would crash. I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft - they couldn't solve it. Called EVGA, they said they hadn't heard of any problems with the latest driver. I installed an older driver (169.25) and got it work. I never got the system stable, and I don't think it's the gfx card.
I tried installing Gears of War, which seemed to install just fine, however, if I started to do something else (I tried this twice) it would give me a BSOD. Then, I tried installing it and nothing else. It crashed on it's own giving me a BSOD. Another time I was just looking around the features in Control Panel and it crashed. Bottom line - it was never very stable.
I decided to format my drive and start fresh. This time, I could get the Vista disc to load and install, but it would crash at various places during install (sometimes after "Installing Features," but most of the time just before it would finish - so about 30-45 minutes into the installation). The errors I have received are the following (but not limited to, ):........
I know Vista Ultimate can only be installed on one PC. However, will it work if I take out the hard drive and put it into another PC?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI wanted to create a partition to test Windows 7 on. At the time, I didn't know Partition Magic didn't play very nice with Vista... or 7 for that matter, so I went ahead and ran it... BAD idea. I suddenly started getting these odd invalid partition table errors and it kept saying it couldn't make the partition. I then restarted the computer which was an even worse idea because then it took me to the grey screen that talked about repairing the OS.
I didn't wanna do that. So instead I just booted into a tiny version of XP from a CD and pulled the files off that I wanted and started to reformat the drive. I then got an error saying it couldn't reformat it. It did erase all the files though..................

View 8 Replies View RelatedI wanted to use Partition Magic to partition my hard drive, so I used the boot CD. When I loaded it up, it said that there were 2 errors in my hard drive and it could fix them, so I pressed fix. Unfortunately, I was running Vista and I only know now that they're incompatible. However, now my hard drive is completely screwed! If I plug my hard drive into my computer, my computer refuses to do anything after POST, it doesn't boot a CD or run anything from the hard drive. I unplugged my hard drive and it's booting CDs now, even though my CD was the primary boot device anyway. All I want to do now is just get my hard drive fixed, I have all my data backed up, so I don't care if I lose everything on it!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have this remote control,I just re-installed VIsta Ultimate, and now this remote control is not working anymore.. it was working fine before I did the re-install..it comes w/no driver, so short of disconnecting and connecting the transmitter again to a USB port not sure what more I can do.. it used to work fine not just with Windows Media Center but also with Rhapsody and other stuff, now it does not work at all... I just put new batteries in it... when I press a button on the remote the green light on the remote goes on and the red light on the transmitter also goes on.. so it's definitely not a battery problem..

View 9 Replies View RelatedPurchased an HP notebook with premium and set it up but did not activate yet. Then purchased an Ultimate Upgrade with anytime upgrade. Installed the upgrade using the key from the bottom of the PC when it asked for the current product key. No errors. Finishes the upgrade and restarts and still is running Home Premium. Why did ultimate not take? We need ultimate to login to a domain.

With the anytime upgrade to ultimate can I choose between the 32 and 64 bit vista ultimate? I do realize that I would have to do a clean install of the 64 bit OS. I would like to try the 64 bit version but would also like to be able revert back to the 32 bit if the 64 bit doesn't work out. If I can't then the 32 bit version it is as I need to join a domain.........

When I was using 32 bit Vista I had all my Hotmail folders, newsgroups, calendar, etc. when I selected the Mail icon. Is there a way to migrate Hotmail to Windows Mail, or a way to replace Windows Mail with what I had when I was using 32 bit Vista? I had IE 8 with 32 bit and I have IE 8 with 64 bit.

I'd rather not spend a couple hundred dollars to do this when I already own Vista Ultimate 32-bit. My computer came with Home Premium and I purchased a Vista Ultimate Upgrade CD (32 bit). Now what I want to know is if I buy the $30 non liscensed Vista Ultimate (64 bit) CD, can I use my Ultimate (32 bit) Activation key to activate it? This would save me around $150. I talked to the Microsoft guys via chat but we just kept going around and around and they never really answered whether or not the Ultimate 64 bit would accept my Ultimate 32 bit upgrade key.

I have a HP pavilion laptop which came with 64 bit vista ultimate pre-installed. I shrinked the OS partition (160 GB), created new partition (40 GB) for 64 bit windows 7 ultimate. After installation of Windows 7, I cannot see the vista ultimate boot option when I boot my PC. When I boot into Windows 7, I still can see the vista partition. But instead of C: it is now displayed as E: I used the HP Recovery Disc to repair windows vista but I can only see a blank blue screen with the mouse pointer. How can I recover the vista?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).
Ive just bought some new headphones yet when i plug them in the sound still comes out of the speakers. I know the headphones do work because i use them with my mp3 player

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had Windows Vista 64 for 2 Months now and of that period of time it worked soundly for about 2 Weeks. I am NOT an irresponsible User, I don't just delete Data, I know a little something about computing, I don't visit or download from dubious sites etc.
1) Without any reason software suddently doesn't work.
a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.
b) I installed a new Antivirussoftware - after 5 days it didn't work anymore.
c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
I'm going to upgrade or do a new install of VISTA Ultimate on my Dell XPS 600.

I'm wondering if I want to do 64-bit, mainly for the RAM (being able to use
more than 2-4 GB (I can use up to 8 GB on that MB)).
What's the pros and cons--should I just stick with 32?
At the moment I've installed Vista Ultimate x64 Sp2 and on the task
manager I see that the system is using about 1.1 gig of my memory. I
disabled all of the fancy features of vista and using Vista classic
theme.
I've 2 gig of ram and quad core processor.
how can i teww if sp1 is instaled ons my system, or is its ans atomatic
update in the future?
